Who will be our Captain in 2016?

PS ***queue "who needs a defensive hooker" arguments***

Yeah that sort of argument does happen but when you have someone as good as Parcell waiting in the wings who has the rare combination of the two, it certainly makes it harder to accept the horrible offence that comes with Macca's undoubted brilliance in defence.

People also go way too far to the other side ... Some people act like defence is the be-all and end-all of the position. At NRL level, they need to have really good attack as well.

The hooker gets his hands on the ball more than any other player.

Yeah some balance in statements both ways would be nice, but it's never going to happen.

Even the most stringent Macca hater could understand why people get there back up when the regular comment is he is 'horrible in offense'. I mean he definitely has some guys in front of him in the offense department but saying it is horrible is just flat out bullshit.

In any case this topic has been done to death and will never be met in the middle.

yeah for sure, of course an argument can be sharpened in any direction at anytime, but for 2015 its tough to settle on a unanimous decision - i really doubt a more attacking hooker takes us to 1 more win in 2015, if anything compromising our defensive structures unsettles our young team's confidence, threatens our defense and game management (from likely chasing scores instead of defending slender leads) and interrupts formulated interchange patterns

granted if there was such a hooker who magically became available id be open to making an offer (yep even that grub Smith).

LOL granted the irony isnt lost on me that if there was one 'almost' candidate probably it was one someone already in our squad - Parcell, but ultimately he was untried/tested over a full season and didnt want to/was denied by circumstances the opportunity to crack the squad from within.. if he stuck around a year or so we'd not likely be contemplating Macca for captain...

as for Boyd, the positioning mightn't have been flawless (gratned im not a native/life-long league watcher) but it seemed to be formulated to suit our style ie. covering weaknesses/inexperienced and fortifying the line rather than sweeping etc

yeah sorry that was a waste of a post... essentially they're all candidates, not sure id 'prefer' either one.

am perversely hoping its Reed just so we have some legit flare ups here..

Not a waste of a post at all. It was perfect.

just waiting to see the Reed arguments??? :bike:

Ha na. I just know the actual coach with all his actual success and experience knows what the **** he's doing composted to a bunch of keyboard bashing forum dwellers who's effect on the true makeup of the team is thankfully sweet **** all. Self included. I couldn't manage a constantly evolving roster. What we fans actually see amounts to nothing in comparison to the real work that goes on at a high performing and professional sporting Club

LOL.. if FiH was coach, id love to hop in the side car and get in on it

I used to think FiH was a little slow , but I have come to realise he/she is actually a genius.

do not doubt it one bit! ha

that said, if Thaidy does end up getting the nod i will deadset be PMing FiH every week for my fantasy team!

My opinion -
-Bennett will realise that Hunt is a season maybe two from being at the top of his game. Applying pressure to him before he is ready especially off the back of last season, as great as he was might be too much of a challenge early on.
-I don't think bennett will want to pick Thaiday or Parker, as good as they are there not 80 minute players and that is a big deal for him.
-Boyd coming off the back of a great season, not out in the lead with try's but was consistently at the back line organising/playmaking. A key to the success of the defence last season. Most likely a bronco for life and will be a future leader. He could be a real contender.

Hi Berg

Firstly , welcome to BHQ. Am assuming you are a Broncos supporter (otherwise why would you really bother posting here, right?) an hoping you are around for the long haul with what will hopefully/surely conclude wiith being a premiership winning season in 2016.

Now, as to your brief analysis of the currently unfolding situation regarding who will BE captain. In my opinion you have raised several valid points as to what may ultimately sway WBs decision making process. Your thought processes here lead me to think you have an extensive history in/of the game of Rugby an are somewhat more than just a casual follower of the game {as many of the subscribers here TEND to be}

Well, enough serious talk. Perhaps you might like to tell us a little more about yourself? Previous coaching, playing experience for example? God bless you an hoping we dont have towait too long before next hearing from you.

Thanks for the warm welcome,
Extensive playing history - No 1st grade coaching.
Long time Broncos supporter, new to the blogs!
Looking forward to the future posts.

Although unlikely he was in the running, Blair has made it public he doesn't want the role and according to the courier mail Boyd and Hunt are the front runners, if your to believe them. Only Bennett really knows.

Here is the story GCB was talking about
[h=1]NRL 2016: Adam Blair rules himself out of Brisbane’s captaincy race[/h][h=3]Adam Blair has been an inspirational leader for Brisbane but he has emphatically ruled himself out of Brisbane’s captaincy race.[/h]

“Nope. No way,” Blair said when asked if he wanted captaincy duties.
Blair is a natural leader at the Broncos where he has flourished after leaving the Wests Tigers at the end of 2014.
Darius Boyd is expected to be named Broncos captain late next month with Ben Hunt the other strong contender.
Wayne Bennett has said he knows who the captain is but won’t tell anyone because he needs to confirm it through a torturous pre-season.
Blair said he wasn’t sure who it would be named Justin Hodges’ successor as Broncos captain but was adamant there were better options than him.
“It depends on what Wayne wants. I have no idea. There are some great players here who would do a great job with the captaincy of the club,” Blair said.
“To even be mentioned is great but there’s been some great boys here that have been here for a long time and deserve all they get.”

Blair revealed the Broncos had not even discussed their heartbreaking grand final defeat to North Queensland as they embarked on their revenge mission.“It hasn’t been spoken about since I have been back,” Blair said.
“I have been through those grand final pains before (at Melbourne Storm).

“It is a grand final, that’s what happens when you clock off in the last couple of plays.
“For the first time I felt like I really enjoyed the grand final. Early in your career you feel you take those things for granted.”

Boyd probably favourite but I wouldn't rule out Glenn as a smoky

bit of a shame, cant fault him im sure he has his reasons, but i reckon he couldve been a smokey. this pic from the dailytele emerging origin squad article shows how intense he is and what the coach saw in him despite years of lacklustre at the Tigers
