Who will be our Captain in 2016?

People also go way too far to the other side ... Some people act like defence is the be-all and end-all of the position. At NRL level, they need to have really good attack as well.

The hooker gets his hands on the ball more than any other player.

Yeah and when you give the cream of hooker attacking opportunities (running from play the ball at slow markers) to Justin Hodges for the first 6 seasons of your first grade career, you'd likely suffer in attack as well.

Wait and see the return of the Macca dummy as a force in 2016.

This. If i was him, I'd really own my position now. Also improve kicking game.

Bennett said last year they haven't worked on their attack yet. I'd say macca is in line for some attention too now. Milf and hunt will be really developing their kicking game this off season

New broncos marketing pic has Parker looking like new Captain

Boyd has ruled himself out in an interview with Fox sports. He is endorsing Parker. I think Hunt would be odds on now.

Not sure if it means anything at all but Parker and Thaiday are sitting in the middle of the front row in the team picture?

bit of a shame, cant fault him im sure he has his reasons, but i reckon he couldve been a smokey. this pic from the dailytele emerging origin squad article shows how intense he is and what the coach saw in him despite years of lacklustre at the Tigers

It actually looks like he's been kicked in the face OR about to sneeze.

They were in the middle last year, as well.

Thaiday has to be in the middle. he's so well girthed these days that id he is on the side, they can't fit him in the photo, it also unbalances the weight as the rest of the team are not as heavy even combined.

Where's this 2016 team photo being spoken of? Show me!

DARIUS Boyd admits it’s an honour to be mentioned as a candidate for the Brisbane captaincy but confesses he’s not ready, nor is he the best man for the job.

With the Broncos yet to appoint their skipper for 2016 following the retirement of Justin Hodges, Boyd and his fellow teammates Ben Hunt, Sam Thaiday, Corey Parker and Andrew McCullough have all been touted as possible leaders.

Hodges anointed Boyd as the man to succeed him after he hung up his boots at the end of last year but according to the 28-year-old, he still has some work to do on himself before he’s ready to lead the club.

“I’d love to do it if I was the right person and ready in myself and I’m not sure that it’s me at the moment,” an honest Boyd told foxsports.com.au of the captaincy.

“I’ve only been at the club for a year. I’d like to be there longer and feel my way into the team a bit more. I missed a lot of last year and as far as being a captain, there’s a few things I need to focus on to better myself before I can help others.

“We’ve got a lot of class players at the joint that can do the job and for me Corey Parker is the man that should lead us forward.”

Parker, 33, co-captained the Broncos alongside Hodges in 2014.

A veteran of over 300 first grade games, the Test and Origin star in a natural leader and with that kind of experience, there’s no doubt in Boyd’s mind that Parker is the right man for the job.

“He’s been there and done it before,” he said of Parker.

“He’s a natural leader. He’s only got a year or two left (playing in the NRL), he’s a one-club man (and) he’s done so much in the game. He’d be the best man for us in 2016.”

While coach Wayne Bennett is unlikely to reveal his new captain until just before the season starts in March, Boyd revealed he began taking a leadership role at the club last year within the backs.

While he might not feel quite ready to captain the club, he said he has a group of younger players he checks in with, passing on pieces of advice he found helpful when he was in the early stages of his career.

Boyd and his wife Kayla welcomed a baby girl, Willow, into the world late last year, making him a father for the first time.

And the fullback says fatherhood has already changed him.

“Losing the grand final was tough and I thought I would have handled it a lot differently — I would have been a lot more down in the dumps but I bounced back quickly,” he explained.

“Having a little one at home makes you realise what’s more important.”

Returning to the club he supported from age six, after leaving Newcastle to follow Bennett north, 2015 was a breakout year for Boyd when it came to his life off the field.

While the season got off to a bumpy start thanks to an Achilles injury, he said reconnecting with his mother Rochelle for the first time in eight years helped lift a weight off his shoulders

“For so long I was angry and had the wrong thought process to a lot of things and that was one big thing I changed,” he said.

“One of those things was to see my mum again and reconnect with her and have a relationship again. We catch up as much as we can.

“It’s a work in progress but it’s on the right track.”

Having received treatment for depression in 2014, the Test and Origin flyer began a fruitless search for the biological father.

Having received a letter from a man claiming to be his dad, Boyd followed up the claims however a DNA test proved the man was no relation.

Asked whether he would continue to search for father he replied: “Not really.

“I did follow it up and it led to a dead end. I’ve tried my best and I can rest and feel at ease that I’ve done as much as I could do. I’m happy with where it’s at, at the moment.”
