Winter Olympics

100% correct Coxy. Both networks have no idea. When the London Games come around I will definately be buying the Foxtel coverage if they are offering the same sort of deal.

+1. Wasn't enough interest for me in the winter games to do it, but the "real" olympics are something special IMO.

Hopefully, by the time 2012 comes around, they will have figured out how to use the extra FTA channels properly. I actually quite like Go! and Seven2 as they are generally, but the fact that they don't utilise them for a big event like the Olympics or the Australian Open is beyond stupid.

I think all channels are getting a third one in the not so distant future, so hopefully this will push them to actually think about how they're using them.

I think that's usually 2 weeks after the main games start.

We all know the Olympics are just a test event for the Paralympics icon_smile (oh and BTW - it's 3 weeks Nashy)

Yep. They each already broadcast on 5 different frequencies...they rebroadcast their SD channel on 2 of the three (except ABC and SBS who have a 3rd SD channel already).

So just need the government to licence an extra channel for each.

I don't think they need to licence extra HD channels, as the frequency they operate on is after the decimal of the main frequency licenced.

Or I could have made that up and automatically assumed it was right.

they only have 1 HD broadcasting channel at the moment (except 10 who broadcast -ne ;d on 1 and 11), and 4 SD. But are only licensed to have different content on 2 SD channels (corporate networks anyway). Nine and Ten don't use their 4th SD channel at the moment. Seven does (channel 73).

Doesn't it have something to do with bandwidth or some crap like that?

Generally that's only with Foxtel since they need to purchase broadcasting bandwidth on the Optus C1 and Optus D1 satallites.

The reason we got new channels recently was because D1 was finally put into space, and Foxtel bought cells on it.
