Without Hodges the Broncos are nothing in attack.

There wouldn't be any player in the team that would've made the break that Hodges did against the Bulldogs.
If Hodges didn't make the break, Wayne wouldn't even be the coach now.

ZING!

You got us there! Hodges break!!! The reason we won the Premiership, after 26 rounds of regular season. [eusa_doh Gee I feel like a goose...........................

Oh yes. That's right, it was Hunt that made the break and set up the try for Berrigan! [icon_drun

Oh yes. That's right.

You missed the part where there were 29 OTHER games that season. Including the GF.

You missed that part where the Broncos was dead and gone against the Bulldogs and would've be knocked out of the final series. But that's ok. That game didn't mean everything in big scheme of things.

Who was the player that turned the Bronco's season around in 06?

Um Lockyer, Webcke, Civonceva, and Berrigan!

Um no.

Lockyer made an awesome break later in the game if memory serves me correctly, Hodges isn't the only player in our team with a decent step you know. He is one great player in a team of great players. You're clearly just biased mate.

Lockyer is a great player, no doubt. But Hodges is the xfactor.

Um, if Hodges is better and more important than Lockyer...then I'm not here.

Lockyer is the Alpha and the Omega.

No. Just... no.

Hodges is a great center and was in sensational form in 2006 ... however Darren Lockyer is the man who composed the way we played on the field during our great run of form then. Lockyer was then, is now and always shall be (while they are playing together) a more important and valuble player than Justin Hodges, and any other player on the field in his team for that matter. No disrespect to Hodges or anyone else, but thats just a fact.

2006 has passed people [icon_wink Looking forward I think we are in 2008 and this is the season that counts atm.
Hodges is a great player but has not been putting the team first [icon_shady
I recall when Wallace first played his great games this year there was many comment like "We really don't need Locky. We can do it without him now we have PW.
RUBBISH......
Lockyer is the thinker, organizer, the everything of our team. icon_thumbs_u Hodges is not.

He should audition for Idol.

LOLZ, seriously, in footy terms, what is the xfactor? [icon_confu

I am baffled by people running Hodges down. He is every bit the 'x-factor' in our outside backs.

Hunt: organisational player. Chimes in for set plays. Skillful and tough but mainly there for his defensive qualities.
Kemp: finisher pure & simple
Boyd: up and coming utility back. Has pace, pretty good defense and handles pressure well. Can go missing during games.
Manihera: learning the trade, needs to bulk up and get more confidence.
Robinson: as above, has suspect hands but will be a good player one day
Michaels: As Boyd, except for the going missing part.
Hodges: The ONLY current outside back in the Brisbane line who can turn nothing into something on his own. Has strength and an excellent fend to break tackles, has pace and a wicked step. Doesn't have a defensive read like Tate but has bullying strength and aggression to intimidate opponents.

I wouldn't say Hodges is the most important member of the team but after Lockyer and Wallace, I agree he is the most important player the Broncos have for scoring points.

All that aside, yes he has had a troubled year. However I believe that come finals time we'll see a new Hodges who is focused, committed and oh-so dangerous.

Agree gUt. As much as I hate the bloke, the Broncos are a different team when Hodges is out there.

I wouldn't undersell the Thaiday and Carroll absences from Saturday night though. Thaiday has been causing havoc in the last month, and Carroll's combination with Lockyer creates a lot of doubt in the defence, and opens up opportunities wider.

The Lockyer-Carroll short ball combination forces defences to compress up a bit so they have numbers there to stop Carroll. That in turn opens the defence up wider out.

I bet the Warriors weren't as concerned about Eastwood in a similar position.

One more comment. Someone earlier posted that Hodges' dummy half running is a waste of a tackle. What a load of horsesh1t. He is exactly the type of player who you want taking a settling run to help the forwards out. Other big backs will get it and hit it up or try to center the play, but the beauty of Hodges from dummy half is multi-faceted.

He makes the defense work hard to capture him using his strength, fend and step. I remember his creation of lots of breaks in the last couple of seasons but opposition teams have worked out not to give him any room and you'll see the marker(s) jump quick to slow him down. This is a good thing because it's sapping their energy.

He usually beats the first attempt and if there's someone there to run off him, look out.

Agree gUt, when he runs hard. Sometimes he just ambles out and gets creamed. That's when it's a waste of a tackle.

Maybe, I just think it LOOKS like he's ambling and waiting for one of them to come at him etc.

Fair point. It's much more annoying when Legoman jumps out of dummyhalf to catch the markers offside, gets tackled and ref calls play on.
