POST GAME World Club Series - Wigan Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos

I thought the English commentators were pretty biased - "Wigan are playing pretty well in this second half" - but at least they offered something different to 'put the glasses down' Hadley and 'absolutely first class' Wally Lewis.

For the rest of the year, it's Fox Sports commentary for me. That leaves only 3 Origins and 2 Trans-Tasman Tests where I'll have no option but to listen to the Channel 9 dribble.

Amen to that.

Went the game and was so pleased for Greg Eden. He really struggled in Super League before moving to Australia. He had flashes of brilliance but then would do the most stupid of plays or dumb knock ons under no pressure. He looked great against Wigan, well-done to the lad

I'm really pleased for him to. Barring injury he has scored himself an NRL spot with us for round one, and I never thought that would happen. He has really shown his character by sticking with it in the Q cup, when the easier (and some would say smarter) thing to do was go home and back into playing top level.

The guy backed himself and tried his guts out and that's something you can't help but admire, it is also clearly not lost on Wayne.

Completely agree and to think just over 18 months ago he was playing for Gateshead Thunder in division two of our league playing in front of around 50 fans. Like I said made up for him and now hopefully he holds down a NRL spot. England place could beckon for him at the end of the year.

Eden has progressed and learnt how to play wing in Australia. Coming from England where wingers are largely finishers- score your two tries hope you don’t let three in and go home. He’s improved his skills and been more involved as the 12 months has gone on. He’s always had skills; cross field kick last year to win a game for Wynnum on the bell stands out.

He's had to adapt and learn the involvement level required and appropriate skills at the right time.

All the above is true but just a tad understated I think ! His performance levels have vastly improved from years ago and it would be fair to say that going from a park footballer to probable international later this year is a stunning achievement.

I enjoyed the game even though the boys looked a bit rusty and think Nik did a great job filling in for Ben. Broncs showed plenty of spirit and it bodes well for the coming season. I cant believe the non existent play the balls the SL players use.. did no one ever tell them they are supposed to play the ball with the foot? they still seem to live in the world of dirty play wins over skill, I guess thats why they continue to get flogged by decent sides. Cant wait for the season to start. Just to introduce myself I have supported the broncos since day one, had nearly two heart attacks and many strokes watching the boys over the years but.... as long as I take a handful of calm pills before each game I'm good to go. 66 years young and still love my Broncos and Queensland Origin teams.
Thanks for having me on your great forum.

Glad to have you on board Hammerman47.

On the ESL, while I'm not an avid viewer by any means, from what I've seen Wigan's style of play is not indicative of the competition. Consider them the Melbourne or Canterbury of the ESL, a notoriously dirty side with a poor reputation among supporters. Strangely, the media does not share their vitriol and often sympathise with Wigan, even when they're playing other ESL sides.

Welcome aboard Hammer. The Henjak/Griffin years must have been torture on your health, hopefully good times ahead.

Oh no, he already knows I'm an arsehole lol

I think you won't be able to carry a utility on the bench this year. Nikorimia is deserving of a spot but I don't think you can use a interchange getting him on for what could be 10 minutes or not at all.

Front row would be the only specialist spot I would carry and then mobile versatile forwards.

I disagree. Nikorima will play more minutes than last year and make a bigger impact. Our entire backrow can play 80 minutes, all our front rowers bar Wallace can play long minutes, and McCullough can play long minutes. With the game speeding up, interchanges dropping etc, Nikorima will become more valuable and dangerous off the bench.
