He hasn’t said he’s retiring yet has he? I’d say he held off to be in the WC squad.

Yeah true. Add to the fact that he said it was his last game in a purple jersey leads me to believe, at a small hope, he could be wearing another next year. Reading into it a fair bit but hope he doesn't retire, great player no matter what jersey (if he does) wear next year.

Jason Taumalolo has decided to play for Tonga and not New Zealand in the World Cup. Pretty significant and ground breaking in the context of international rugby league.

Normally Kiwi players of polynesian heritage only play for their respect Pacific nation when they are not chosen to play for NZ.

Will this move by the best forward in the game cause a chain reaction and decimate NZ's team?

It puts David Kidwell in an extremely tough bind also. Only recently he said he would maintain the ban on Jesse Bromwich for using recreational drugs earlier this year and he wouldn't play in the World Cup. Lols.

Maybe this has something to do with it. Protest of sorts. Or is he angling for an origin berth somehow.

According to Phil Rothfield who broke the story it's because of Bromwich and Proctor's omissions. Sounds a bit dramatic though.

I just think he identifies more as Tongan than Kiwi. He's been in Australia since he was 14.

I want as many elite players playing for the smaller countries. Even out the talent. McGuire for Samoa (Milf too if he wasn't sick).

Maybe if Hayne works really hard he can sneak on to the bench for Fiji.
