that's actually a really good squad. For once I'm impressed with Sheens. I like the fact that Tate, Papalii, Parker and DCE got in. I like Cordner too.

I was expecting some completely shithouse selections like Hoffman or Glenn Stewart or Pearce. I just hope Thaiday is in there as a squad player rather than a starter

Would be the likely side.

Jennings/Tate could go either way. Personally, would rather go Tate as he's adept on the right hand side but can see selectors opting for a more lethal player.

Cronk gets by on pre-existing combinations.

Wouldn't be surprised with Tamou missing out altogether tbh given his dip in form and attitude. However, think the preference is to make this the starting combo.

Bench will include a utility, Myles will likely be the first drop for the middle third, Dally M prop Fifita will be the other option and the final bench spot will go to a fringe runner. Thaiday's experience will likely get him the nod.

I hope DCE gets a start. He is the best halfback in the business, and could form a lethal pairing with Thurston. Besides, Cronk is much better suited for the utility position.
I'd like to see Parker in the 17. In fact I might even put him in the starting 13 as lock, with Gallen playing prop and Tamou out.

Good selections. Is Watmough injured? He should be there before Cordner.

I think so, there were stories about him struggling through the finals with a knee injury. that would be the only reason he should miss out.

I was expecting Carney for sure.....there's so much wank festing going on about him in certain quarters.

Pretty happy with the squad. Probably the one selection I'm most unhappy with is Thaiday's selection. There is no way he has earned it......even on an incumbency based decision.

and Tim Sheens being shafted by the west tigers has paid off for Australia. At least now he isn't wasting selection spots by picking his own club players.

Yeah, it's actually a great squad. It kinda sucks though how Papalii and Hayne are in the squad and will likely only play 1 game. I would have preferred to see them represent Samoa and Fiji (I think for Hayne), make those teams more exciting to watch.

I didn't think Carney was ever a chance, despite what the Dally M voting says. there is no way in hell that he is better than Cronk, DCE or Thurston and he has a busted hammy too. so thankfully they got that selection 100% right.

although if Sheens picks his teams right I think Papalii and Hayne should get a run.

Hayne would be great to see on the wing or centre and Papalii is a better choice as a bench forward than Thaiday

Can't really disagree with that squad to a great extent. Happy to see Boyd Cordner, Andrew Fifita and Josh Papalli get selected they are future Australian players. Will be very interesting to see who GI partners in the centers, plenty of good candidates.

Congragulations Corey on your well deserved selection.

Am glad Cronk got selected. Despite a disappointing finals campaign, he's still better than DCE at this point in time.

Let's just say it's a nice problem for both Qld and Aust to have, and if there is a gap between them then it's a micron

Another rep team another undeserved selection for thaiday. Its beyond a joke now. Not even Mitchell Pearce is as much of a protected species in terms of selections.

I hate to say it , but I agree with AP . Also I think he would benefit from a break.

Woah, hold on there. lets not get carried away and make comparisons we might later regret.

at least Thaiday has occasionally played pretty well for Australia and Queensland, even if the last time he did so back in 2011. whereas dear Mythell Pearce last put in a good game at rep level in ... well ... err ... I think he might have done alright for the Junior Kangaroos back in the day

World Cup isn't the time to select players on form - it's about talent and Thaiday has been a good servant for both state and country over a number of years now. He's somewhat fortunate that there aren't a lot of quality right edge forwards in the game but on song he's somebody you want in your footy team.
