Why don't they get the roster sorted first? Captain could be selected after the pre-season starts.

He was arrested at GUN POINT, he stalked 2 girls (would anyone on here supporting him feel the same if it was their sister, partner etc????), he then terrorised a family “FAMILY” child present. He threw a wine at police????

If this was here he’d be in jail, it’s probably only because of the overcrowded prisons in the states that he escaped prison time

let’s remember that a chunk our clubs members are made up of families, and its for this reason that we are positively commercially supported. I doubt our sponsors want to see the video of him going going on a rampage played on loop everyday until he’s dropped
 
Ok after reading everyone’s opinions I think I’m changing mine to him not being made captain there are a lot of very fair and valid points as to why he shouldn’t be. He should just feel blessed that he’s a member of society and being paid plenty to play footy, no need to make him captain. If glen does take this new deal give it to him the players love him and he deserves it.

He copped his punishment and paid for his mistake. Now he has turned his life around.

He's moved on and he's doing a lot of good. Everyone else needs to move on, as well.

We have moved on and I don’t doubt he’s doing well. But if your asking him to captain the most prestigious and commercially backed rugby league club in the world, I’m sorry, but commonsense needs to prevail
 
I don't think there has been enough time. I have no problem with him becoming captain eventually but I'd give it more time.
 
so WHY does lodge need to be captain is what i cannot still understand? Irrelevant of how good a bloke hes become and what great things he does off the field.

Does'nt mean he should be excluded either. From all reports, all the players and staff around him all believe in the guy, he has the backing of Wally Lewis and Locky, Do you think these guys would just give the captaincy away without giving it serious thought? Locky has even come out and said Broncos would survive the media backlash if he is appointed captain, and that says a whole lot about Lodges character if locky is willing to give the media ammunition and still appoint him captain.
Do you guys not trust that Locky and Wally have the broncos best interests in mind? You think they would appoint a guy captain that they don't have faith in?

You are right about the severity. One had a rightfully strong punishment the other issue was just a branding problem AT THE TIME.

Love locky and the king, two of the greatest players to ever wear our jersey, but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with them on everything, especially here

I can't vouch for his character, I don't know him. But from what I have read about his previous issues I am just very dubious of him having changed and owning such straight of character all of a sudden.

I have two issues with lodge as captain.

1. The whole new york thing. Yes, it is in the past and he has been fantastic in his rehabilitation from that and has had no off field issues at all. BUT, he still did it. I'm all for forgiveness etc and im glad the club gave him the chance to turn his life around, but I don't think he should be made captain of what is (or at least used to be), the biggest sporting team in the country.

2. He hasn't achieved anything. He's early 20s, hasn't played origin, hasn't played for australia, has no premierships etc. He isn't a winner. He has had quite a few absolute stinkers this season and often once he makes one error, he makes a few more. You can't have that in a leader. The captain should be someone experienced and who is an elite player.

With those things in mind, our current playing stock is very slim for captain material. Either we recruit and perhaps make one of them captain, or we keep Alex Glenn and give it to him. He has the respect of all the players, is popular with all the players, and puts 100% effort into everything he does. I mean, even physically, just look at how in shape he is compared to the majority of our team. He has played in grand finals, played for NZ etc. and is our best bet by far IMO. Give it to him for 2 years, and then to someone like Carrigan/Fifita/Dearden or someone who steps up over the next 2 seasons.

We are absolutely putting it all on black to push Glenn out, then give captaincy to Lodge. He doesn't have the mental durability for captain of an NRL team yet, nor has he shown the football brains on field. I know macho leader etc, but to be a successful NRL team year after year, captaincy requires a brains trust of rugby league inside that head. Sure we can be mid pack with him as captain, but we wont reach the discipline and heights of Roosters and Melbourne in the modern day. Hell he cant even get himself into peak shape!
