Honestly, if hazelwood if healthy how do you not take stark out? India just straight up owned the fact they don’t want none of that line and length from Scotty and hazle.

1 wicket each to all of your bowlers, can’t ask much more than that. This Indian side is resilient though and their tail has wagged Against Aus multiple times.

Bowlers really zeroing in now.. it’s funny how often as a quick bowler you just feel that little bit more in control once the absolute newness has just slightly worn off the ball
Duke balls have much more lacquer .
Takes maybe half dozen or more overs before it`s ready to swing . Ricky was explaining it last night .

Well has gone pretty well damn good so far. What a hundred from Smith, don't think he gave a single chance?

Yeah don’t think so. He did miscue quite a bit and some fell just short of fielders though.

A couple of take aways from last night:
- Cummins got Rahane on a no ball, that could really come back and bite Aus on the butt
- Green was nigh on unplayable most of his spell - England will be worried
- Boland was nigh on unplayable most of his spell
- Once Cummins settled, he was nigh on unplayable most of his spell
- Lyon is a legend
- Smith is an absolute legend - on a pitch almost everyone has struggled on, he looked like a master most of the time
- Head had well and truly arrived and then some, he is no one hit wonder now with this counterpunching innings
- Carey may well have had the most luck any player has ever had in compiling his 48, I think he middled one ball

Yep... and the main contributors to those wagging tails were Jadeja (already out), Ashwin and Axar... with neither of them playing, but all 3 at just about all rounder level.

I think Thakur is like a bowling all rounder isnt he??

Yadav and Shami are sloggers from memory 🤔🤔

Not sure about Siraj

Yeah its very much a regulation tail for India .. Siraj in particular is absolute fruit, even by number 11 standards

Thakur is capable of batting but the thing with this pitch is it's doing it off the wicket, not in the air, Indians are not used to that as we've seen a couple of times at least with some shocking leaves.

India did beat us in India but anyone watching that series would have known it was their tail that won them at least 2 games, particularly Axar Patel. The key here is to get this tail out cheaply. The top order of India really didn't stop Australia even in India.

Just makes the Boland selection make more sense, he really didn't do anything he hasn't done in any other game, consistent with his accuracy and let the wicket provide the variation.

Glad we didn't go for a swing option as I don't know that it would have been as effective. After Starc's first spell India didn't really look to be struggling but then Scotty came on and they couldn't score, really took back some control of the game.

All of which just makes absolutely no sense with them going into this game without Ashwin. India's batting has been problematic for the last two years despite their big names in that side, so you drop the guy who makes Aussie batsmen look second rate AND can bat you out of trouble. Absolutely head scratching. They obviously learned nothing from Australia dropping Head for 'reasons'.

India won the toss, having looked at the pitch and thought "we'll bowl them out in under 2 sessions". That's the only conclusion one can come to given the way they stacked their team with pace and left out their best spinner.

Yeah that is the only thing that makes sense but even then, surely someone in their brains trust would have said, wait a second, we'll have to bat on that too, shouldn't we at least go with one of Ashwin / Axar as insurance over one of Yadav / Thakur?

I mean, Thakur can bat and while he bowls some absolute trash, also has the ability to produce wicket taking balls, so with Jadeja-Ashwin-Thakur-Shami-Siraj you still have more than enough variety and you bat to 9, which given India's extended period batting woes, is really important.
