NEWS Xavier Coates may have played his last game for the Broncos

Courier Mail futurist Peter Badel thinks "Xavier Coates may have played his last game for the Broncos," based on an "understanding" that he's "no certainty" to return to the top squad unless injuries prevail. Holy "may have," Batman!

Kotoni Staggs says Coates has not been dropped because of niggling injuries. There must be some other reason:

“Xavier is a good winger and a good player. All I know is Xavier trained well today and his fitness is there. Everything is going to plan with him and hopefully in the next few weeks he can slot back in the team. But he is looking fit out on the field.”

That's all, folks?

“To play Origin, Xavier has to be good, but at the end of the day, the coaching staff makes the call and he is not playing because of the coach‘s reasons. We don’t want to change our team every week, we want to stick to the same team and changing the team every week isn’t ideal. Hopefully he gets his chance again this season, we have seven games to go so hopefully he can slot in there somewhere in the weeks to come.”

“We don‘t go into any game thinking we will lose. It was 12-all last time coming to the last few minutes and we let them off the hook. The Panthers are one of the best teams in the comp at the moment, but if we can play the way we did last time we can hold them out.”

That is one thing that will never happen, Bellamy will never be at the Broncos.
Haha I know. But a part of me thinks that maybe now that DD is here there’s a chance. Just call me Lloyd Christmas.

Makes no sense to me to keep him here. We have a player who wants to be in Melbourne and who isnt in our plans, and Melbourne have a player they dont want or play who will be here next year so swapping them should be done. Its going to help us as much as it does them.

We need to stand up to them after the Donuts thing, if Coates is the collateral damage, so be it. It doesn't hurt us to have Lee around the best team in the comp for the rest of the year and away from our rabble. It makes perfect sense and is what we should do.

I'm picking up what your putting out there, but what do we get out of it? It is similar to the TPJ setup, what do we get out of letting him go to the Panthers? If the answer to those questions is SWF then let them cool their heels in Qcup and wait their time out, if we are being compensated in line with what we are losing then put him in the boot of the next car heading south, or maybe he can follow the book and hitchhike.

I get your point but are we really helping them by throwing Coates up as an option for them in a settled side that is the best in the comp?

If I was Panthers, Eels or South’s I would like seeing Xavier line up for the Storm come finals time whilst he learns their system…

but yes, if there is one club we shouldn’t be helping on principle it’s the Storm

For me, stuff what everyone else does and lets do whats best for us. Bringing Lee in now give him and us a head start for next year. We could also do with a center tbh. I think its a good deal.

Isn’t he still recovering from a season ending injury?

Havent been following whats going on with him too much tbh. He was fit last time i looked though. If he is injured **** em and keep coates!

I couldn’t give a stuff what Coates wants, I’m fact I would be doing the direct opposite of what he wants for as long as I can especially when it comes to the storm. You want a chocolate milkshake? Tough shit it’s strawberry. Dopey prick would probably drop it anyway.

Melbourne are trying to bully us into releasing him, Smith was campaigning for it on SEN today as well, **** them!
Bellamy also out there talking shit about Coates wellbeing if he doesn't play again this year.

How about **** off Bellamy you slimy cheating ****... who does he think he is commentating on players in other squads and selection policies of other teams.

He should be lambasted in the media for providing commentary on what another team chooses to do... or should be open to criticism about all the shit judo and jiu jitsu he's introduced into the game and how that's been on player welfare

They’re hypocrites, they took Donaghy to court to stop him working for 6 months.

Melbourne are notorious for refusing to release players, they can get fucked.

Bellamy:

“It’s something we’ve had a look at (bringing him across early), but I don’t know whether the Broncos have put a line through him or not. If they have, you’d think they wouldn’t be against letting him go early. If it happens it happens and if it doesn’t it doesn’t. There’s not much we can do about it and it’s up to the Broncos what they do, as he’s a contracted player with them for the rest of the year.”

“If they don’t want to play him, they’re well within their rights there, but it seems a little bit harsh and I’m not quite sure what that does for Xavier’s mental wellbeing if he’s fit to play and he’s not playing. But that’s the Broncos’ decision and they’ll do what they think is right and right for them.”

“He’d add a bit of depth to our outside backs and he’d add a bit speed and a bit of size, but at the end of the day we’re not going to concern ourselves too much with something that might not happen or is unlikely to happen."

“My job is to concern myself with what we’ve got, not what we haven’t got or what we might get or what we’re going to get next year. My job is to keep my focus on what’s happening now.”
