Your QLD team

Why are we pretending that his form for the past two years doesn't exist?

Not only does that form count, but his ability to put the opposition defence on notice, speed up the ruck and buy his playmakers time and space counts. Further, his running game is lethal and with fresh legs he'll provide more.

I get that he isn't as good as some would have you believe, but he hasn't been a slouch either and he's played an integral role of keeping Penrith competitive.

Well if you read what I wrote, you would have seen my explanation.

If you have him play a specialised 20 minute role, he won't have those mistakes because he wouldn't get caught trying to playmake when he has a JT instead of a Koroisau calling for the ball.

Just to make the point clear...

The #14 spot is probably the least important spot on the bench. Queensland could go with Ben Hunt, Jake Granville or Daly Cherry-Evans and it wouldn't make that big a difference to me. Segs is just the best option of the four.

However where I object is this notion that he hasn't offered much of anything.

He's offered plenty, it's just been tempered by the odd dropped pass when he's asked to wear too many hats.

At Origin level, he'd just have to focus on his speciality and that's where he'll shine and that will give Queensland a point of attack which they desperately lacked last year.

Can we read into how shit Australia were in the test considering the entire spine were QLDers?

The Kiwi's defence was obviously excellent but there were passes going to no-one, passes hitting the deck and heap of bonehead errors going on. I'm not sure how much preparation goes into a one-off test and how much Sheens gets involved so I'm hoping the QLD camp and our coaches learn from what went wrong.

Also just on Parker's offloads, I love his ability to get his arm free but he threw a bunch of them just out of hope someone would be there - needs to pick his spots during Origin.

No because Johnston would have scored like 3 tries if Jennings possessed the ability to pass the ball but he can't and therefore everyone looks bad. And by everyone I mean the "old Queenslanders" and not the people who didn't deserve their spot to begin with cough Lewis, Bird, Myles and Tamou cough.

Back to Segeyaro. I do really like him as a player but his form this year has not warranted selection. I'd argue that no utility player has earned a spot based on this year although if it were based on form Segeyaro and DCE would absolutely be ruled out. I don't care if there's a reason why he's making the errors, he's still making them. Fair enough I was wrong in saying he doesn't offer anything because he obviously would. But we have to stop selecting players on how they were last year or the year before. That's why we lost last year.

I am a little worried about Cam Smith's form this year. I think age is just starting to catch up with him. Still a great player but IMO he will have to lift a bit to get us home this year. I would also like a bit more variation in attack this year. Maybe a few more tricky set moves . It's going to be tough. Sure hope Billy is 100%.

“With Ben (Te’o) no longer in the mix, it does give us the chance to rethink what we have been doing a little bit,” Meninga told the FOGS website.

“Because of the crackdown on wrestling, the speed of the play the ball has increased and this has made the role of the prop forward even more important.

“What the first few rounds of the competition showed us is that the halves really need that extra fraction of a second of decision time that comes with good forward momentum.

“With that in mind, I think we will be leaning towards having three front-rowers on the bench this year to make sure we can keep that momentum going in the back end of each half.

“We would still probably need to carry that utility role at No.14 like we have been doing, like with Daly Cherry-Evans last year, but we will probably change our thinking slightly to include a bit more size and muscle on the bench this year.”

McGuire Ready For Origin - Meninga - Broncos

It sounds like McGuire may just get a crack if that's what Meninga is going to do.

All this talk about the "old players" form..

It's not the first time this has been mentioned over the years and yet they almost always lift for Origin.

All will be well.

They will win back the Origin shield.

Really?
Must have been Darcy Cherry-Evans who won Man of the Match in the game Manly v Storm!! Or was it Dale or Dipso?

DCE is coming equal fifth in the Daly M points competition, out of around 300+ NRL first graders. Obviously having a shocker of a year!.

I wouldn't put much stock in the Dally M's, especially at this stage of the season.

It was interesting to see his stats from 2014 being compared to his 2015 stats on the Matty Johns Show. I believe his 2015 stats were actually better despite his form being noticeably down. So far, his best two performances have been against the Storm but they've almost felt like anomalies that have really inflated his numbers.

Clearly he's still a quality talent and I believe he'll go onto forge a long career in rep footy but I believe it'd be in everyone's best interest if he was over-looked, at least for Game I and given time to regroup at Manly.

Have you actually sat down and watched him play in every game?

Cherry Evans has had one good game this year, that's it. I don't get your argument. Your talking about form and based on form DCE should be nowhere near a rep jumper currently. The only thing that will get him there is incumbency.

If you are going to call someone out it is best that you have actually watched the player play first

Did anyone else hear Dobbo on Triple M this morning?
He reckons if Boyd is good to go for Origin, he will be the fullback and Slater will move to the wing.
I'm happy to apologise to him if this is true but seriously, Dobbo. What drugs are you on?

Lol Slater to the wing..

That isn't going to happen.

Even if they put Slater on the wing, it would be to accommodate Inglis in the 1. Dobbo needs to lay off the Brownies.

Man of the Match against the Storm in round two. Man of the Match again in round 8.
Is that two broncos4life ? Last Round MoTM not current enough for you?

Maybe "it is best that you have actually watched the player play first ', well obviously I have and you haven't.

But I digress.

And in between those two games against the Storm, the Manly side, like Souths (how is Inglis's form?) has been badly hit by injuries and DCE is currently 4th on the Daly M ladder. currentluy

As Big Pete said, and I saw the Matty Johns Show too, DCE stats in 2015 are better than his 2014 stats. I'm sure Mal Meninga needs no reminding of DCE's ability, and I believe it would be in everyones (Qld's) best interest to pick him in Origin One.

Numbers don't count for much.

Hopefully he steps up against the Knights and the Panthers. Manly have a great record at Brookie against Newcastle so hopefully it ensures that the best candidate is picked - not just the incumbent.

I can't argue how you rate certain players, but o think DCE offers more impact than anyone else. Unless Cronk is under an injury cloud DCE shouldn't be in the team.
