State of Origin Game II - NSW vs QLD

I thought I'd sleep on it first, but nothing changed. Ben Hunt is a fucking useless half back, always has been, always will be. Yet there are still people defending him online. Deadset, **** off Hunt.

Any half who kicks on the third in the red zone should be sacked unless it's a sure thing for a try. It's even worse for hunt Especially when the opposition is down one player and the series is on the line. He single handedly lost the game for qld with his second half performance

Definition of insanity: trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? I get he pick and stick or development stratergies but none of those players fit those criteria. Dce has been tried before and failed miserably and isnt getting any younger, cooper is 31 and been terrible this year in origin and nrl and has also not given much ever in origin outside of jt making him look good, and hess may be young but he needs to learn the value of the queensland jersey...

One name i think falls before all of them though is hardly getting mentioned. Wallace! He has made about 70 metres in 2 games combined. He is an absolute powder puff at this level and dirties the name of webcke and ciovoniceva.

And just on replacements in the forwards... sua, thaiday, scott, glasby, welch, hipgrave and ffs even shaun lane have been in better form &/or have better runs on the board in origin.

I dont get how walters uses the loyalty card with these guys but not the ones who did it 20-30 times before to a much much higher standard. And why does he pick a 31 year old out of form player and many other 30 plus year olds yet goes on about the future? Why not just pick the special 30+ year olds and the bring in young guys for the rest. Dont do this half/half shit

Sorry but if you can’t see the difference between playing DCE now vs playing him a few years ago then that’s much closer to insanity.

To establish a few things firstly:
1. He obviously has ability. He’s had more than a bit of success in his career and he’s without doubt one of the elite Halfbacks in the game, so it’s not really a question of him being good enough to deserve a shot.
2. He clearly has some issues fitting into some team cultures as evidenced by comments from former team mates.

So whilst I don’t approve of it, I do totally understand why a guy like him probably struggled to fit into the existing Maroons culture and was unlikely to ever be a successful fill in for Cronk when it was still very much Smith and Thurston’s team.
The difference now is, it’s not their team, and that culture is now more or less gone. It’s a blank slate and if DCE wants to step up and produce results and earn the right to make it his team and his culture and he can get the results to support that, then he should have that chance.
The fact remains that Taylor is still quite raw, and isn’t even in great form at the moment anyway. Milford can’t Game manage for the Broncos so I have no clue why anyone would think he can do it for Queensland. Morgan is now injured and was already struggling at the Cowboys before that. Hopefully time off does him a huge service but it remains to be seen if he can make it back to the form he showed previously. Not to mention the other up and coming options are guys like Croft who can’t even hold his spot at Melbourne down and then guys like Walters and Lam etc who are likely years away from being ready for this level.
Queensland need to find someone to get 3-5 years out of consistent game management and leadership out of and DCE is at this stage the most likely of anyone in the NRL to give Queensland that.
This should be reason enough alone but to add one more string to his bow, he’s a pretty competent full time Goal Kicker now, and as we saw last night, Origin is all about the 1%’s, and going into another Origin game or series without a full time kicker with a decent strike rate would be the very definition of insanity.

As for Gavin Cooper, I’ve already said he’s not a long term option, but at this point he’s hardly one of our worries and I don’t see what blooding Jaydn Su’a, who at this point is our only fit and in form Back Row option besides Aiden Guerra would achieve. It’s not fair on Su’a who is only just establishing himself in First Grade and especially when Cooper’s replacement for next series is already locked in with Gillett coming back.

Hess likewise is hardly our biggest issue, he’s got plenty of x-factor and they just have to work out how to unlock this at Origin level but I think he’s done enough to be retained at this stage.

As for Wallace, I’ve already said a few comments up that he’s absolutely blown his chances and needs to go back to the drawing board and prove himself consistently at NRL level for a while now. Time for Joe Ofahengaue to be given his chance to show he can make the leap up in quality I think. Queensland urgently need more metres out of their Props and shifting McGuire back their for Origin games and bringing Joe O into the frame will hopefully give us exactly that.

I would have been less frustrated if the fucking idiot at least tried in on the side of the field where the player was missing. He's fucking useless. 2/2 now where he's had to stand up and not fucking suck, 2/2 he's been penalised and dropped a fucking ball. He's toast.

1. Ability is nothing when you simply don't give a shit. He's a pay cheque player.
2. He has plenty of issues. None more than the fact that he's just a fake shit person.

I hope we never see him wear a Maroon jersey again. He's the only player I would actually pick Hunt over. **** DCE.

Unpopular opinion here but I reckon Oates is the better winger of the two, at least when it comes to making metres and finishing off tries. Oates would’ve scored the try Gagai went into touch with.

It’a inconsequential now because Chambers has to go and Gagai is realistically the only Centre option Queensland has so Oates probably wins a start on the Wing now anyway

Sorry, but that’s just rubbish. He may very well care about himself first and foremost, and he may very well care about pay cheques far more than most, but I simply can’t accept that he ‘doesn’t give a shit’.

You don’t carve out a pretty successful NRL career without giving a shit. It’s easy for us as arm chair critics to forget that cutting it at the elite level of the NRL is damn hard, and requires focus and commitment that most of us would never be capable of, let alone if we even had the ability. Plenty of players with ability but no commitment crash and burn, hardly any end up successful over the long term, and DCE has definitely had success over the long term.

I can’t understand how anyone can argue that an elite NRL player doesn’t care about results or winning. I could cop that maybe he cares about them for the wrong reasons (his own personal profile and the pay cheque that accompanies it) but I can’t cop that he doesn’t care about winning or being successful at all. All players want to win, all players want to be successful, even the ones who love getting paid first and foremost.

Sorry to say it but it’s now or never for him, a guy who obviously deeply cares about his own self first and foremost, to prove that he deserves to be considered amongst the best of his generation by dominating at Origin level, and this time, he’s coming into a team that doesn’t have an established culture or leadership group, and is ripe for him to come along and make his own.

that BS penalty try could have been the worst thing to happen to NSW ...

they would have been better off with a penalty and Hunt in the bin for 10 ...

Ordinarily yes, but it's Ben Hunt. It's more of an advantage for NSW if he stays on the field.

Papali ?did he play ? Wallace was terrible and Hunt was abysmal. I screamed when the fucktard kicked it dead on the third tackle against 12 men. How hard is it to play 12 ? Two up the guts and then spread side to side, sooner or later you open a gap. Should have won by 12 or more, Inglis didn't seem to grasp the moment and put them in their place, leading by example is okay up to a point but fucktards need to be told what to do.

Wallace and Hunt dropped and Slater told to retire, no not because he was poor, he wasn't but we need unproven players to get one dead rubber origin under the belt. In fact, there's probably 4 or 5 players we need to give exposure to the cauldron. Never know, a winning feeling at Suncorp might reap dividends down the track.

No amount of waffle in the world will change my opinion. He's a self.loving flog who should never play for the Maroons again .**** DCE .

What's a Hunt mark?

Hunt was critical in both of the tries that were scored on our right hand side.

One of those errors of his was when he was lifted a metre off the ground (identical to what we were penalised for doing to Maloney) and the ball was raked out by NSW.

Hunt wasn't even the worst half out there, Cleary was.

The problem is Hunt's negatives far outweigh his positives, and he is too far into his career for them to be excused like I used to excuse them as 'he is learning'.

He did a few good things that came from what are his strengths, but he is pretending to be a halfback and his decision making is crucial there, unfortunately his decision making (especially in big games and big moments) is absolutely horrendous. Not just bad, game-changingly awful. There is no excuse for that kick, there is no excuse for most of his mistakes. A try assist here or there does not make up for it.

I'll put it this way. If I am at work and I buy one of my colleagues a couple of coffee's, maybe help them solve some problems they probably think I'm a bloody good workmate. If I then go shit on their desk an rub their face in it I don't think they are remembering the coffee's anymore.

Hunt took a dump and rubbed QLD's face in it, just like he did in some game I can't remember anymore in 2015 and he can keep his fucking coffees.

Well all that is fine, just let us know who the other options are, because like it or lump it, someone has to play 7 for Queensland in two weeks time and the ONLY fit, in form option with any sort of experience at this level is DCE.

I also like tge Courier Mail's scathing comments about Hunt

Anyone taking issue with DCE on a personal level would do well to remember that for his entire career Maloney has struggled to fit in with playing groups over extended periods and has been moved on several times from a range of clubs, yet despite this, he’s been crucial in winning Minor Premierships and Premierships and he’s now steered NSW to their first properly convincing series win since 2005 (2014 was in my opinion far from convincing). If that’s not proof that you don’t have to be loved by your team mates to have success and get results then I don’t know what is...

I can't believe peoples excuse for keeping hunt is "lol we got no one better"

...wasn't that the excuse NSW used for so long? Pearce is the best option. Look what happened when they dropped him. Let's not make the same mistakes and give chances to someone not upto standard at this level.

Hunt was pure garbage, anyone that can sit there with a straight face and say he wasn't that bad is either straight up delusional or on some sort of leave ben hunt alone quest. He's the halfback, he's meant to steer the team around, kick well, manage the game. He did none of that. For the second time.

...and why are we even mentioning Cleary? Pretty sure he plays for NSW.

It tells me you're deflecting because you know/realising just how shit Ben Hunt is.....

No, it's because I honestly don't think people know what a poor game is. Whenever we lose, people just point to Ben Hunt or Milford or Nikorima or McCullough and say "that's a poor game".

The reason Cleary is relevant is because if someone had a game like that for Qld or the Broncos and we lost, he'd be the one getting chewed out. I know this, because this is what happens with Nikorima just about every week.

Why are we putting Cleary and Hunt in the same sentence!? :(

Ben Hunt was absolutely dreadful. I'd like to hear him explain why he put a grubber into the in goal on the 3rd tackle when they had just been reduced to 12 players. Was just inexplicable.
