He wasn't terrible or anything, but he didn't sound comfortable. When they asked him about Norman, he took a bit of a pause, and his response was very diplomatic.

He wasn't as bad as Ikin or Freddy but I think if they want fans to respect him as a commentator he needs to do non-Broncos games.

Lets not be too harsh on Norman. He didn't have a good game but I don't think he had a bad game either. The conditions were in no way suited to his style of play and our attack was clearly well off what it should be. Lets see how he is going in a month then I think we will see if he is up to the task.

Very tough conditions for his first match as Lockyer's heir apparent.

I'm not writing him off by any means. Just trying to be realistic about his performance.
That half break at the end was class, shame about the poor decision to offload to a player in front of him

I think that was as much Reeds fault and he seemed to know it by his reaction. Impulsive plays like that are IMO quite forgivable under the circumstances (experience levels, stage of the game etc.). I may have overstated his performance early and there are no doubts he has much to establish and improve on - I just thought it was a nice start.

Good one to start off with. Our attack was poor in the 1st half as our forwards dominated territory but the backs couldn't finish it off. 2nd half performance again our forwards dominated but the backs were calmed and constructed unlike the 1st half and finished with 3 tries with Corey faultless with the boot. Also the defence was rock solid as Parra's try was just a gift on a platter, other than that they didn't look like scoring all night. Need to work on attack though as we are up against Jonathen Thurston next week. Defence 8/10, Attack 6/10, overral 7/10.

It was a really good finish to the match, they seemed very frantic at the beginning but once they settled into their flow and realised they didn't have to attack at a million miles an hour things looked a lot better.

Hannant had an immense game, surprisingly impressed with Hunt off the bench, Hoffman warmed up as the match went on, Reed's defence was again great and Norman's one on one defence impressed as well I thought.

Good to get that match out of the way, it was always going to be ugly. Big test now against the Cowboys on a dry track but I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do.

We were poor! Did our halves even manufacture any line breaks? Apart from yowie's try our breaks came from charge downs. And how many times was Norman caught on the 5th tackle? He has a long way to go!!!

I don't feel confident on the rest of the season just because we cut out the dropped balls in the 2nd half against a terribly below average team. Cowboys would have killed us last night.

The only thing I am feeling good about is our forward pack. Its freaking amazing! Gillett, McGuire are future superstars for sure, wow!

Hoffy was great also, such a competitor. My motm! Lol at those who often call for Beale at FB.

It was round 1, and the 1st match minus Lockyer. Of course Norman has a long way to go, but for mine, it wasn't that bad a first step and his defence was very good and kicking not too bad. I'll reserve judgement on him say till Rd. 6

I thought Wallace played well. His kicking game was the best I've seen from him for ages. His try scoring grubber was excellent - at last some creativity from a half back with limited attacking weapons.

There was some good depth now and then which is promising. Hook always learns from every match.

The defence was fantastic. It was the defence which made Parra look ordinary.

Beale, like every player, surely is allowed to make a mistake - just bad luck it led to a try. His efforts last year at FB were beyond reproach. Whether he is the answer on the wing is of course, another question.

On that performance, I am very optimistic for an excellent season, more so when Thaiday is back where he belongs and, I really am looking forward to seeing Hala play again.

Much like everyone else I'm going to wait a week or two before I get too excited.

We were about a 5/10 the Eels were about a 2/10 - still love the fact that season started with a Broncos win and a Parra loss!

Obviously it's round 1, I was just responding to all the OTT enthusiasm on the first few pages.

The facts are we were less than super. But so were all 4 teams that have played already this round.
