Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

To me it feels like the only way forward is to take the first step and get a new coach. Lets hope Hook can turn it all around so it doesn't come to that.

What does turning it all around mean though?
What is a pass mark for Griffin?

I'd say if we make the 8 from this point in time we have over achieved, does that mean nothing should change though?

Things certainly need to change. If we manage to make the 8 from here I would expect things to have changed. I doubt we will make the 8 anyway.

to me it seems griffin is still coaching as an u/20's coach. he had success that year with our u/20's and hasn't seemed to have grown since then. what worked in u20's obviously won't work in the nrl

And just so it doesn't seem like I'm stating the bleating obvious, I'll expand on what I was saying.

Finish the season on a good note
Don't go on a huge losing streak and win the wooden spoon. Finishing in the 8 isn't necessary although I'd take it. But how? Accept that our defence is beyond repair and start playing a more expansive brand of footy. I've been critical of our defence, but it's not going to be fixed overnight. So let's attempt to blow teams off the park like we did against the Titans in R10. I'm sick of this conservative playing until the 80th minute mumbo jumbo, that isn't working because we put ourselves under too much pressure to catch up. Change the approach, implement more variation around the ruck as well as some variation with our passing game - more cut outs please!

Blood some players
This has already started in the form of Kahu, Maranta, Whitchurch, Granville, J. Wallace & Hunt (as a halfback) so I'd like to see us keep at it.

Kahu should stay in the squad and if things do go from bad to worse, let's give him the fullback gig. I'd be starting that transition right now because that's where I see him long term.

Granville or even Baptiste should be on the bench for McCullough. Our offence begins at dummy half and Macca isn't performing at his optimal level, so let's put some pressure on the position or test out our variation by giving two of the best young dummy halfs a chance off the bench. It's one of the few positions we have some strength in.

This might seem like an insult, but believe me it isn't when I say Hunt should spend sometime in Queensland Cup playing halfback and getting consistent gametime. His development has been terrible. I know Cronk and JT spent some time on the bench as bench hookers, but they didn't spend 4 seasons in that position. Let's give Hunt a chance to build on his game and prove that he can be our first grade halfback. When ready, or towards the end of the season, give him a spot and see how he goes for the rest of the season.

J. Wallace would be apart of a rotation system for that last bench spot which would include Oates, Molo and Timu. Let's be honest here, the Broncos only need 16 players, the 17th is just there for the sake of being there. Let's give these up and comers a taste of being in first grade including the proper preparation and allow them to experience just how fast first grade is.

Make some good signings heading into 2014
What's so difficult about that? This is very tricky because there isn't a GI looking for a new club. Oh wait, yeah there is - Israel Folau. SIGN HIM.

Let's look at the positions that need fixing.

Fullback? Kahu is an option, but I wouldn't mind Locke for the right price. A talent, just needs structure.

Halves? Truth be told, there aren't many experienced first grade halves worth their pay cheque - so look to the future. I rate Luke Keary myself but there's Matt McGahan, Mitch Cornish etc. that wouldn't be bad.

Prop? We need another big boppa. Word is Kane Evans is unhappy at the Chooks - I'd love to bring him up here. Just the bloke we need, a 200cm unit with an amazing motor. Failing that, let's go Tasi - hits like a truck and is a Queenslander, you can basically promise him a Maroons jersey. Hell, TLL wouldn't be a bad cheap pick up off the bench. Runs hard but injuries are a concern.

That's the first thing I've seen in a long time from Griffin that isn't BS talk.

I'm glad he admitted there is a problem and that he needs to improve himself as well, that's always a good sign. Lets see how we turn up next week.

Get Folau, no coincidence that we were able to beat the storm a couple of times when he was around.

Hook has been fairly open since the Rabbitohs game which is good BUT words are cheap.

I like the fact he made a point of agreeing to multiple interviews and was happy to cop the criticism. What I want to see is for the players to accept Monday night was rock bottom and they're never going to be that bad again this season.

I can't stress enough how important R13 is going to be.

Now that I've had time to calm down I can finally comment without feeling dirty. The season is not gone. Yes, the chances are slim but they do exist. I have this feeling, stemming from the interviews with Griffin and Glenn that they are feeling the pain in a big way. We may just revive this season yet. I'd like to see Hala start and get us on the front foot with Wallace playing his new position. I'd also like to see multiple players moving during hit ups for obvious reasons. Although we haven't the depth to win the comp we can still compete and all is not lost. We need to emulate Melbourne more closely.

I totally agree that we need to go back to the drawing board and recruit some quality in our weaker positions. That said we have quality and the pain and humiliation are great motivators for future improvements. It isn't over yet and like one of our former greats said ' it's on again next week' ! Kev Walters used to say that after some very painful losses and I loved his attitude. I'm sure it's still around at the Broncs.

I'm not delusional or out of my mind and I still have faith that my team will turn up next week with the Bronco spirit still intact.

Fantastic posting Compound! I wholeheartedly agree with MOST of what you said Sir. I do however disagree somewhat regarding the issue most people here seem to have in terms of recruitment. I don't think we need to recruit at this stage, but that is not saying that over the next 12 to 18 months a suitable recruitment or two may not be necessary (perhaps a big boppa as others have mentioned). I am confident that we HAVE the cattle already to push us deep into the finals even this season, on the 1 proviso. The players need to have faith in their ability and what Hook is trying to achieve in regard to gameplans. Ok, so over the past few weeks in particular things have gone astray. BUT, with the right mindset, and confidence in each other's ability, we can damn well give this competition a shake yet.

Hook is a very experienced coach and if he can achieve stakeholder buy-in within the team, I think we may very well see a vast improvement in both attitude AND performance very soon. I think supporters, if we all stick by the team, are in for a very pleasant surprise this coming game against the Raiders. Let's DO this!

Definitely related to Griffin.
