7th Tackle Try - Disgusting!

The result should be reversed. End of story.
Failing that, the referees should each be fined $10,000 directly payable to the Cowboys.

The NRL has proven itself an utter joke.
Why should it be reversed? The Cowboys didn't win, nor did the sharks lose. How many games have seen where a try is awarded only to see in a replay a knock-on or a player offside? How many times have we seen a penalty awarded and a goal taken only to see a replay afterwards that shows it to be an incorrect decision? If after 72mins of play the result is the margin of the error should all these results then be forfeited or are they accepted as part and parcel of sporting competition.

The refs are accountable and should be dropped, not fined, they are human, they made a mistake.

The NRL are no different to any other competition in the world, world cups have been decided on a hand-ball, it was only a few days ago an NFL game was 'decided' by the refs incorrectly giving an extra down that led to a touchdown, a comparison as close as you'll find with what happened on Saturday;

[h=1]Referee admits to error that gave 49ers an extra down[/h]"The 49ers were the benefactor of an official's error Sunday, giving San Francisco an extra down on which it scored a touchdown in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Green Bay Packers."

Well that's easily the stupidest thing you've said on here.
How can the players challenge something they weren't aware even happened? it didn't effect the cowboys mindset, they thought they conceded a fair try, sharks thought they scored a fair try.

You really think the players should be counting the tackles to make sure the 6 officials get it right. The coaches box knew so that must have been a frustrating time for them.

That's not what I said, you said it may lead to introducing a challenge system into first grade, if the players didn't know the refs screwed up the tackle count how could they challenge it?

Depends on how early they found out. Maybe the trainers knew but didn't get the word out.

I assumed he was referring to the captains challenge being trialed in 20's, the only way a challenge system would work in Saturday's circumstances is if players knew or it was a coaches challenge like the NFL.

Yes but wouldn't the trainers or coach get the word out (assuming they knew) before the Sharks lined the conversion up, ensuring there would be enough time to lodge a challenge?

If a challenge system did exist and the Cows were succesful, what would have been the right result? Cronulla would have been victims in that sense.

ideally, in this case if a challenge did exist and they realised before the restart of play then you just chalk off the try, rewind the clock to make up for the elapsed time and it is a turnover where Tagataese was tackled on the last.

The Sharks lose a bit by losing possession and being denied the opportunity to kick on the 5th but it far fairer overall than the Cowboys conceding a try.

The Sharks were the team I supported before the Broncos were born. I quite naturally have a soft spot for them when my team is no longer playing. In that sense I am a Sharks fan. Unlike some my support does not waver over the years but will happily cheer for the Broncos whenever they play anyone else, Cronulla included. I'd supported the Sharks for 15 years before the Broncos birth in 1988 however there was no doubt who I would follow after that. Seven tackle counts along with shorter five tackle counts have been part and parcel of the game for all of those years and many more will happen. It is terrible that in this one instance a try was scored and the anguish of fans is understandable but this is bordering on hysteria. Time to build a bridge.

problem then is it stops being a captains challenge and becomes a de facto coaches challenge, whatever model they use should be heavily restricted to prevent unnecessary stoppages, I don't mind the idea of a captains challenge as long as restricted to the players, I take your point though, in rugby league its very hard to isolate the players when the trainers are out there all the time, but that's another problem entirely.

Thanks Pete you have explained that the way I should have initially.

You mean instead of saying it was the dumbest thing I have said and giving me a red dot like I have contracted some sort of forum STD.

I completely agree with the first post in this thread. It's precisely the reason why I've almost moved right away from watching NRL and other Australian sports in the last couple of years and follow US sports more and more.

The NRL has been run like an amateur competition for years and I've forgiven it as the on field product has still been high quality...there is no way this is the case anymore and for me enough is enough. Until they get their act together collectively on all levels my interest will be strictly participating in one or two fantasy comps purely to trash talk my mates with no care who actually wins or loses the games

The reaction from some of the Cowboys supporters have been over the top blaming the Sharks team as well as the officials and giving threats towards the Cronulla club and their officials. What did they do wrong? they just went out and played the game while Flanagan and the coaching team coached the side. They should be directing their anger towards the match officials whose job it was to referee and control the game. Harden up princess and move on.

It's not like the Cowboys were going to win the premiership they would've played against Manly next week and would've gotten beaten then, they are a step behind the top 4 teams. Jesus the sun and heat must be burning their brains up there.

I can understand the anger . It must have shelf life. Have kids with signs saying we don't accept your apology send the wrong message. Once you accept it was a mistake and not bias, you must move on.

If that happened to the Broncos, I would want everyone to pay for the mistake.

I would even want their mascot maimed.

How could they be the victims, they scored a try on the 7th tackle.

If the try had have been overturned and the Cows received the ball back on the 6th, they would have been denied a proper chance on their last tackle as they were misinformed.
