Round 10 - Broncos vs Titans - Post Match Discussion

Anyone talking shit about Vidot, for any reason - 21 runs for 242 meters. I rest my case.

He would very likely be next winger in line for Qld this year along with O'Niell.

Great stats for a forward. How many tries?

I am not saying Vidot is not effective on the wing. I just think he is limited in his skills, excellent though they are, and needs more ball with space than just running the ball back like a 2nd FB or a back rower

Well, the ball with space part, that comes down to his inside men. 10 rounds with just turdness on his right probably made him rusty.

Re: Round 10 - Broncos vs Titans Post-game discussion

I thought one positive was our kicking game. Specifically Hoffman and Macca taking (good quality!) end of set kicks to relieve pressure on Hunt.

We even had Hoffman take a kick from 3rd receiver after the Titans put pressure on 1st and 2nd, and it was a good kick too!

Hunt's short kicking game was really good, as evidenced by the 3 (or 2?) tries scored from grubbers. His long kicks are improving, but he's not good at the midfield bombs. If we're around the 30-40m mark, Hunt seems a bit lost, although to be fair that's a tricky position anyway.

How many tries would anyone score on the outside of Hoffman?

I think any argument about Vidot is kind of moot. He very rarely gets the ball in an attacking position.

I think he has the necessary skills to be an effective winger. He just needs to get the ball more.

I guess we won't find out until next year when Milford arrives.

Funny how many good players are affected by a single positional **** up

Even if it was Folau on the left wing, he wouldn't have scored more than a couple of tries, Hoffman and Reed simply don't do enough down the left hand side to get Vidot in space.

Allo, Parker was off the field on the first goal, which is why Hunt kicked.

On the Vidot debate... he pretty much has 3 black holes (or vortexes as allo put it) inside of him, starting with Hoffman, then Glenn and finally Reed. It's amazing he scored a couple of tries already really!

Get over it. Most people type either on their phone or just quickly. This isn't school, work or university and people are just trying to get their point across. No one cares about a spelling nazi

thank you, get so sick of protencious douchebags just because we dont all take half an hour to properly edit our posts and use perfect grammer, who cares its a footy discussion forum not a bloody english test.

Beating the Gold Coast well should have been a relatively easy task with the amount of injuries they had and losing their key play maker so early. In reality, they only had 15 players to complete the match and still we struggled. Like most have said, Hoggman is not the answer and it's time that experiment ended. Surely a straight swap with Barba when we are in possession is the answer.

So until he goes to the wing, I propose we start calling Hoffman 'Vortex'. passes only come in, none go out the other side.

LOL - Gold!!!
Vortex it is for me from now on - Hoggman was good but Vortex is so much better

Hodges had more impact than Hoffman all season during his one-game stint. I really can't see the harm in a backline of:

1. Ben Barba
2. Daniel Vidot
3. Jack Reed
4. Josh Hoffman
5. Dale Copley
6. Justin Hodges
7. Ben Hunt

Why would you move a guy who has demonstrated that he can't pass a football to centre??
He should be on the wing or not in the team at all.
As has been said by Morkel there is a guy with experience and vision and a killer cut-out pass who is past his best in the centres but is way too respected to be played anywhere except where he wants to play - J. Hodges.
He also has a sneaky grubber and can tackle in the front line.
Hodges should be our 5/8 with Copley moving to the centres and Vidot on his outside.
The other side is still a problem - I think Hoffman should be on the wing - the only position he has excelled at, but I'm not sure about Reed. Reed is similar to Hoffman in that his passing game is poor but he can be effective at breaking the line and a draw and pass when he is on song.
I don't agree with the Hoffman/Barba swap theory - Barba will excel at FB once the halves start working and he will be trampled in the front line. Hoffman won't work well at FB for all the aforementioned passing game issues - the FB needs to drop into the sweeping backline plays and move it on to the players outside him at the right time. We have all seen how well he does at that in his current position.....
All of this is a pipe-dream as long as Griffin is coach and it may well not work but it MUST be better than the current broken system...

Just in the interest of completeness, despite our perceptions of Hoffman shutting down every play, we're currently equal third in Points Scored, with 216. Before the matches last night we were equal first.

It's our defence that's letting us down this year, not attack.

It's both. There were another 20 points on offer v Titans. We couldn't take them. The top sides would have, sides with at least 3 play makers, some 4.

We have Hunt and occasionally, Macca and sometimes Barba. It's not enough. Our results prove it

Geez, welcome to my exact thought processes. Agree with all of this 1000%. If you did indeed read my mind, try not to delve too much deeper please...

The top sides probably would have, although we'll never know.

What we do know is that we let in 30, or close to it, against the roosters, rabbitohs, eels and cowboys. If we'd conceded just one fewer try in each of those games, we'd be level with the Bulldogs in 1st spot, pending their game today. In other words, they've mostly been reasonably close losses, despite the large number of points put on us.

We have the points in us, we need to improve in defence.

This isn't to say that I wouldn't like a better 5/8 and more points, because we're definitely relying on Hunt too much, but better defence will see us move up the ladder.
