Cancelled by who ?

Broncos management or Moose' mob ??

The impression I for was it was just cancelled by both parties. On one of the biggest days of the club there isn't much time

yeah i think it was cancelled because they had to deal with griffin sacking.

Why would he want to? The club has just gone behind his back and fired him. I'd be pretty dirty at them, the last thing I'd want to do is work under the guy who set it all in motion.

Haha "behind his back"? But every NRL fan ever knew it would happen eventually. Plus he was told the day before everyone else knew. He didn't just find out at the team meeting.

sugar coat it all you want, it was behind his back. as far as he knew he had until the finals to get them to the top 4.

He's lucky he had a job this year at all. Pretty sure every decision to fire someone is done behind the persons back. Because they need to work out whether they're firing them before they actually fire them. You know, logic, sugar coating. Whatever you want to call it.

And you can say this for sure?
Well that's what had been said by the Broncos publicly.....

You generally can't just be fired for no reason. He has his KPIs like every other job, and supposedly he had been told that he needed to make the top 4 this year or he would miss his KPIs and therefore be fired. That's the complete opposite of "behind the persons back". It's "if you don't reach these targets you are fired".

Yes because there's no reason as to why he was fired. None at all. Nothing. Can't even think of one reason.

Was it said by the Broncos or by the media?

Sure you can, in the sporting world people can be fired because they pissed on the toilet seat.

They can probably sue/get some sort of compensation, but it generally makes them look bad and dissuades other clubs from hiring them.

Who cares if it was behind his back? This shit happens all the time in the sporting world? Ever hear of the dread "vote of confidence" ? They're usually sharpening the knives and identifying replacements whilst assuring the current coach their job is safe.

Christ almighty, 'went behind his back waaahh', have some of you people just started following professional sport...?

Anyway on topic: I hope McGuire stays, it would be a real shame to see him leave elsewhere as his best years are ahead of him.

Yeah I agree with all of this. FFS some people are carrying on like Griffin is the first coach ever to be sacked

Of course you can, you weren't serious then were you?

If your a full time or contract employee, you can't get fired for no reason. That's why there is such a thing as unfair dismissal/ breech of contract laws.

It would depend on the terms of hooks contract as to whether the club have grounds to dismiss him or not. If they don't then the club would have to pay out the full value of the final year of his contract.

Unfair dismissal (possibly breech of contract) is the reason Sheens has been involved in legal action against the Tigers since his termination.

And it is also the reason Cartwright hasn't been sacked yet ... because the Titans can't afford to pay out his contract

The point is you can be fired on the spot for no (obvious) reason. There is definitely a compensation/golden handshake element to it, but provided you can afford it, there is nothing stopping a club, legally or ethically, from doing so if they feel it's not working out for whatever reason.

Back on topic, if McGuire wants to leave because Griffin got sacked then he can piss off for all I care.

I guess some of these guys are worried they wont have a cushy ride anymore.

I don't think you can accuse McGuire of that...

Thanks for explaining how employment works, I've only been in the corporate sector for 8 years so didn't realise...

Clearly I realise that but thought it obvious that things work very different in the world of sports. If you have the money to pay them out you can get rid of them

Hopefully Bennett can have a chat to McGuire and try to sort this out. Obviously if McGuire gets a huge deal he might take it if he really is that unhappy with Hook being sacked. Surely playing under Wayne Bennett still has some appeal for the players at the club though.
