A round of upsets so far, hopefully we buck the trend.

Speaking of Buck, there was a new girl riding him tonight and I was super disappointed because the old one is gorgeous. Seriously if someone on here could introduce me, that would be great.

Hard to blame him IMO. He had the presence to know to pass it to someone who can kick, the real **** up is Macca passing it to him on tackle 5.

This was a weird one. McGuire had his hand up and it looked like he was calling for it. I'm sure that's how it looked to Maranta.

That first player to go down (Brad Takairangi?) was "apparently" knocked out cold but never went off for a concussion test. That rule isn't stopping anyone from faking it at all. There was a little girl beside me at the game who was maybe 10-12 years old who yelled "Did you hurt your vagina?". I laughed pretty hard.

Foxtel didn't show the Anzac tribute, they were waffling on about the Storm vs Manly game & then went straight to the game when they were doing their warm-ups again.

I think Josh McGuire's Dad was on the field when they did the tributes etc.
Yeah the ground announcer mentioned him (assuming his dad is Adam McGuire).

I actually thought the crowd wasn't too bad for the actual moment of silence. There were a few dickheads at the start of the service but between the last post and the rouse I could only hear crying babies/toddlers. Semi-related: The guy who sang the NZ anthem absolutely crushed it - best rendition ever.

On Fox they said the Eels had 55% of the possession but on NRL it says we had 52% possession.

I'm happy with the goal line defense, I'm happy with the individual performance of most players, I'm happy with how we took advantage of our opportunities, and I'm happy with the result, but I'm far from happy with how we played to be honest...

Yes, the Eels were often offside, but we couldn't make good meters and barely made it to the Eels 20. Of course, that was in part due to the decision to go for 2 whenever we're close enough to kick a goal. Whether it gets the result or not, I hate it, unless it's to put a game beyond the opponent's reach, like going from a one score to a 2 scores lead.

I compare today's game (and Maranta's footy) to a kale shake... it's good for you and gets the result, but tastes like crap!
Milford and Reed's tries were nice footy moments (as well as the stolen Gillett one), in an otherwise dull night, where we were effectively dominated by the Eels, but were excellent in taking advantage of their ineptitude and errors.

In terms of individual performance, Milford showed how good a fullback he is and how important he is in broken/second phase play, and was my MOTM. He also showed his kicking game, which he should use more often, is not that bad.

I thought all starting forwards did a great job, but will give McGuire spot 2 for his try. It was just awesome to see him speed up in between the flabbergasted Parra players.

Third is Oates for mine, did everything asked of him, ran the ball with purpose, and actually tried and managed to avoid being caught in goal with the ball.

Other than that, Reed didn't shame himself and scored a good try, similar to Vidot's last week. Maranta was solid and safe, and was courageous, but nothing exciting is ever gonna happen near him. Fortunately Milford was there for Kodi's offload, because Lachlan had already switched off... Copley had no chance to shine and although he shares responsibility with Thaiday in defending that side, he got caught in no mans land in the first Eels try. Hodges was ok, came better in the second half, and had that great moment to put Nikorima through, and even greater moment riling up Norman enough to earn a penalty.

Hunt's kicking was very good and he held his own defensively, but he was otherwise pretty quiet, and those penalty goals didn't help.

Macca was quite good. I liked seeing him taking some more responsibility in the kicking department, and although both attempts for a 40/20 didn't come near, they helped with territory gain. Nikorima is very handy to bring in against tired forwards, as his line break showed. His offload didn't go to waste thanks to our awesome fullback... pardon, 5/8.

In the backrow, Thaiday was good, although that arm grab on the last Eels try, was pretty bad. But I didn't understand why he played left as opposed to right, as Gillett is in my opinion more capable on the left hand side. Maybe Wayne doesn't want to disrupt the Hunt/Gillett/Hodges partnership. Matt was also very good again, and I feel his work often goes unfairly unnoticed, like today. Parker was at his best, including his goal kicking... congrats on the 500 goals milestone Corey!

Finally the front row, where Blair did the job without too much fuss. There wasn't much use of the bench today after Dodds injury, which Wayne explained well in the presser, and I can certainly understand why he didn't give Molo or Wallace that much time on the paddock.

Again, we saw one of the best tries we scored this season be robbed from us (and the 69'ers) by the refs, while a worse forward pass was let go on the Eels try. This is getting fucking ridiculous!

A good win that we'll gladly take, but as said earlier, our linespeed in 'D' is still way too slow.

I also thought our kicking game wasn't really that good .... and some of our last tackle options were deadset diabolical !!

We need Macca kicking out of dummy half more, peppering the corners instead of the usual hick up high.

A good confidence builder though .... especially for Milf and Nikorima ..... those pair together are electric

Don't get me wrong, Reed had a better game than usual, but he didn't exactly do anything too convincing other than dive over the line for gift points. Give him another game or two on the wing before we start giving him spots

Credit where it's due, that try wasn't fall over the line stuff. There was plenty to do still and I think there are many wingers that don't score that

Interesting performance from the refs tonight.

It may not have shown on TV, but on quite a few occasions, there were 4-5 Eels players standing at least 2 metres in front of him and not once did he ping them for being offside.. It's not like they were on the other side of the field, they were literally standing right in front of him.

You wonder why Eels were in our face so much? That's one of the reasons why..

Thanks for this super, because I thought that most have been the case. You can never tell on the telecast but my mate and I were saying that with the speed that they are getting to us there is no way they can be their 10 metres

Great post, especially your comments about Gillett. We still haven't learned how to use his skills effectively but his defensive work and work rate last night was very very good. I think of how good he is with the ball, and his running game when set up properly.I would like to see more of Matt.

Dare I say it, on the last few performances, I prefer Thaiday in the front row, fully revved up. Glenn, for all his criticisms, was missed last night for mine. I thought Blair was ok - hardly anything to sing about but he he was ok. Copley needs a little extra coaching about his positional play.

The whole side needs to ramp the energy to where it was against the Roosters.

Glad I'm not the only one who drinks kale shakes.

I agree. That was a great try from Reed.(I realise I'm too drunk to quote other posts properly). Maranta would not have scored Reeds try today. He didn't just fall over the line. I'm happy with the win. Sometimes I wonder if BHQ people would prefer a loss to have to more to complain about. We are on top of the ladder ffs. We still have Boyd to come to add some attack from fb. We are looking better than we have in years. Let's just enjoy our wins!

When I heard about the Dodds injury I was thinking to myself it's a bit of a waste having Nikorima on the bench then literally next play he sets up a try! Proved me wrong straight away. I liked that both he & McCullough were on the field at the same time. McCullough is an 80 min player now.

Oh, btw McCullough > Peats

I was surprised Maranta didn't get man of the match, he was superb. Although Thaiday was good also.

Who actually got motm? I missed that part if it was televised. had to hand over the remote after watching footy all day.

How's that mate?

Because he picked up a grubber in the front line to race away to score.....or that he was backing Kodi up (to score)?

5/8's do that kind of stuff too you know.
