Broncos - 2015 Discussion

You're being racist. :P I chose Lee because of his basketball background.

Fair enough and agreed! You had me looking for the blatant error in the graph, almost grabbed the ruler to check the proportion of bat lengths

It's not the bat length that matters, it's the bat girth. At least that's what I hear.

Meanwhile, in the Griffin household...

Yeah its funny. . I enjoyed it. But i feel its a tad disrespectful and unfair. .. a little.

After all, we wouldn't have the players we have today if not for his work in the U20s? That a fair statement or do you think those players would have been what they are now irrespective of the coach at the time. .?

I whole heartedly believe hunt's time at bench utility defending in the middle taught him a lot. His fantastic one in one defence has to be attributed, not to mention his reading of tired defenders. .

I feel there's a case to argue, but we are far better off now with the world class coach and systems in place since hook's departure.

Yeah, at least White Goodman had a personality.

I kid, I kid. If nothing else, Hook always presented himself as a good bloke. There's a better comparison to be made, but Dodgeball is an oldy but a goody.

As for Hunt, his time spent off the bench was beneficial...in 2010...when Griffin persisted with it for three seasons that's when it became a detriment. Hunt was never going to make it as a dummy half and Brisbane desperately needed somebody who could create tries. At the time, I tried to rationalise it by saying the Broncos arrangement in the ISC wasn't suitable for Hunt's development because I couldn't think of any other plausible reason.

Hunt's surge in form really hurt Hook's credibility as it made the board question why this kid wasn't given a proper go sooner. Hindsight is always 20/20 but fans were calling out for a 9. McCullough 14. Baptiste combination from 2011, so it isn't like fans weren't aware of Hunt's ability at halfback.

Hook's work with the NYC side was good, but his bad work with the NRL side will always outweigh those positives.

I always thought ... And still do in fact, that Griffin was really good at developing players to NRL standard, but he wasn't able to help them take that next step to becoming a consistent team capable of performing in the big matches at seasons end.

The Broncos were a lot like the Raiders in that sense.

They built their team around these juniors who were all handy club players but struggled to play consistent football and were often found wanting in the big games.

It didn't help any that the Broncos junior development seemingly dried up around that time. Henjak went crazy with blooding the rookies that were brought in under Bennett's watch and seemingly very few were brought in during Ivan's time at the club. So by the time 2012 rolled around, there really weren't that many options for Hook to bring in and develop. This really hurt the club in 2013 when they were short on options and really needed some fresh blood.

Fortunately the Broncos got that back on track and this current crop maybe the best collection of talent the Broncos have ever had during the NYC era of junior development.

However fine a man he was, and no matter how good he was at developing players and giving them confidence, he wasn't the coach we needed. If nothing else his playing the Hoff at five eigth is a sad indictment of his final season at the Broncos.

The price the club, fans and everyone else concerned had to pay in order to see Milford at the club.

For all this talk about how spoiled we've been (and we have been) having to sit through that was penance for all the success we've had so far this year and hopefully will go onto enjoy later on.

I think I gave Griffin more than enough time to show his ability and credit when he deserved it. He was useless as a first grade coach. His stubbornness infuriated me and for a while started to erode my interest in the team. His idiotic removal of both Oates and Hoffman from the positions in which they were the year before the highest tryscorers to positions where they were only very modestly successful and playing Parker in the front row when he was the Dally M lock were just some of his hamfisted decisions. Shit, I wanted Nashy to coach before Griffin !

As for his ability to develop players.......don't care.

I agree with all that's been said above. To add to it, the bulking program. Ew.

I think we have to give credit to him and pay him that respect now though. Without hiz early work, the current crop of Broncos would look very different. .

Without his failings at the top level, we wouldn't have Bennett back wither tbf

Problem with Griffen apart from favouring his Under 20s was at one time of the year i think maybe half way thru last year we were coming 11th and he said I think we're going ok.. I was like... WHATTTTTTT ... He settled for being a middle of the road team and IMO that was his undoing... Maybe that would have flown at the Tigers or Raiders but not The Broncos!!

The problem with hook is he made excuses and accepted them from others. After our losses he said we played well but just didn't get the bounce of the ball, the rub of the green. He just seemed to accept being mediocre, he capitulated to Hoggman in allowing that narcissist to play 5/8 when he should of been on the wing. He had no belief in our bench and used it terribly. WB has brought discipline, respect, attitude, culture and a possible top four finish if not premiership back to the Broncos in less then 12 months.

Where would be without Milford and Boyd?

(btw, I just found out that Milford is the fastest Bronco ever clocked over 10m - no wonder his line breaks are outstanding)

Maybe a win or two less then we are now but maybe the same with the likes of Taylor and the nik brothers chomping at the bit to get a start!

Never beleive what coaches say in post game press conferences. 80% of what they say is complete BS, the other 20% is PR.

it is what they say to the players behind closed doors that counts.

If you take what players and coaches say in press confetences as fact ... Then Ricky Stuart is the most successful coach ever, it is always the refs fault his teams lose...
