@smokinjoe is Blair confirmed gone to warriors next year? And are we looking at/in talks with anyone?
If we lose Blair, we will heavily be relying on Sims, Lodge (unproven in NRL) and not guaranteed to sign with us, TPJ, Offa & Fai all young blokes with big responsibility.
I feel like we won't have much depth at all in the engine room.
I think our lack of depth in the engine room is massively over-estimated on broncoshq...
It's as if everyone thinks players like fai, Sua, haas, TPJ, offa and carrigan will stay at the level they are now. They are frozen in time.....
Tpj and offa would be regular first graders at any other club in the nrl now and will continue to harden up in the nrl. Fai has only not played more nrl this year due to surgery-there's an extra 10 games next year already. Sua has proven capable of handling first grade already and will probably play about 10 games next year (another 6 games covered). Carrigan appears to be a carbon copy of arrow but with an even greater engine (5-10 games out of him?). Haas will play 2 or 3 during origin.. our pack isn't small anymore, all those players are huge for there positions (fai isn't but he is very stocky-a.k.a webcke sized).
You add lodge in (also massive, and he is nrl proven btw over 12 games with people stating he is a future kangaroo on the back of the performances in those nrl games, even if that's a bridge too far that's enough evidence to show he will handle first grade), sivelio who looks a player of potential (remember the forwards are of a good standard in England, the backs and the halves are what are lagging behind Australia) & possibly a bulked up bird who breaks tackles at will and can hit with aggression in tackles (or keep him at centre, don't mind either way, he just needs to be involved a lot is all) or Oates (I'm edging to keeping Oates on the wing these days thinking about the future with Sua and Fifita coming through).. all we may need is a journey man prop as cover, but if 2 or 3 of these juniors flunk then we'd still be ok.
We'd have to lose about 3 forwards every game of the year to stress our depth. Arrow (carrigan), ese ese (ofa has already + fai) and even Wallace (lodge- I liked Wallace because he made the most of his potential, but if lodge plays to 1/10 of his potential he will outshine him within 2 years (he was Australian and nsw junior captain all the time) are all replaceable players. The thing with Blair is that sims came. It's great to have aggressive players that lead from the front with the little things, but without the metres/work rate one had to go and sims has more years and upside in him in the future...
For the last 3 years everyone has been saying the same about our forward pack. 2nd, 5th, 3rd.... with a young pack that is still developing, ex internationals on the bench, dynamic, getting bigger, quick footwork, aggressive now... we've lost 2 players that weren't regulars in our team with a fully healthy team and that may have been overtaken within 2 years max by other juniors and suddenly every other player gets frozen in time with their ability. Blair will be a big loss player-wise but I think we will be stronger as a team with lodge more then if we had blair
Juniors should EARN a spot in 1st grade, not given to then on potential. And that's what they have been doing. Not one has let us down in first grade, or they have been slamming the door down in the juniors (carrigan and haas were NYC props of the year-very different I know calm down people)
