NRL Player Movement and Rumours 2018

I'm not even sure we are talking about the same thing anymore.

The only way it happens that a club continues to pay if a player requests a release is by agreement OR if the club has shopped a player around.
If the Titans had said no to Hayne he can't simply say I'm going and you pay the difference.
If he requests a release and the Titans say ok he still won't get paid anything from the Titans unless they agree to make up the shortfall.
If this was the case every time a player got the shits he would tell his manager to look around and take whatever was available knowing the club he was leaving had to pay the difference.
It simply cannot work that way.

"At the end of the day he could have easily pulled out more money from the Titans, he could have easily gone through for the next two months in pre-season, got six figures from the club to bolster his Parramatta contract.
“But he’s told the club he’s prepared to go now without a cent is my understanding. He deserves some credit from that, he’s not a mercenary in this instance.”
Hayne will be giving up a rich $1.2 million per season deal to return to the Eels."

that doesn't come from the same reporter that has been claiming all season that Bird regrets signing his deal with the Broncos and is desperate to remain in the shire (despite all evidence to the contrary), is it?

I personally think that when a league writer includes lines like "is my understanding", that is code for "I really have no idea, but i'll make something up that sounds good"

a headline like 'shattered Hayne leaves Titans for Eels' is clear evidence that they make shit up because Hayne has been trying to get back to the Eels since he failed at the NFL

The club would have to agree to release him first. But most players aren't that childish to just up and leave every time they get the shits.

Unless the new club signs the player for what they were getting paid at their old club, then the old club makes up the difference.

That's the way it's been for a while now.

I can't think of a situation where a player has been released and the club has not had to pay.

No way is the old club compelled unless they asked the player to go, if the player requests a release then the old club might agree if they don't want the player and are creating cap space or in Haynes case, see ya, he loses the contract but can keep the monthly payments already incurred, in this case 1 month.

The Manly Sea Eagles are poised to offer a one year deal to out-of-favour Newcastle halfback Trent Hodkinson after missing out on Mitchell Pearce.
With Pearce’s prized signature slipping through their grasps, Manly are still looking for a half after Blake Green was released to the Warriors.
Developing playmakers Luke Metcalf, Lachlan Crocker and Tom Wright could all be an option but Manly are looking for an experienced first-grade halfback and Hodkinson fits the bill.
Hodkinson made his first-grade debut at Manly, meaning that he’s had past experience with his possible future halves partner Daly-Cherry Evans.
After joining the Bulldogs, Hodkinson steered his club into a grand final, and single-handily ended the NSW Blue’s eight-year drought.
Since then, Hodkinson has been languishing in Newcastle’s Intrust Super Cup, not even included in the Top 5 reserve grade halfbacks.
Manly is an ideal location for Hodkinson to resurrect his fading career.

Would Hayne even be allowed to sign for a club for 500k or 600k a year? Surely thats him taking unders and they wouldnt let Folau sign for unders when he was coming back.

The difference is Hayne is actually worth that amount, if not less.

Is it actually unders though? From a club financial standpoint (ie sponsors, marketing, attendance), yes obviously, but as far his on-field contributions go, 5-600 is what he’s currently worth imo

Probably less IMO considering the level of fuckwitness he brings.
Massive potential to undo what the eels have been working towards.

That would be what the Eels are paying. Gold Coast will be forking out the rest.
I highly doubt they are paying the rest, news articles are making it out as if he has taken the less money to be with family etc, and it's also saying Titans have all of the Hayne money to spend now.

Yeah they said the same when we released Kennedy and Barba. They said we had so much money to spend now when in actual fact, we were still paying them.

Actually I remember the total opposite, media said we were still paying them. Because the club (Brisbane Broncos) did not want the the players (Kennedy,Barba) we released them, they didn't ask for a release.

Maybe @1910 can clear this up?

Yep like I said in my earlier post re: upsetting what the Titans had going. He’s not a team member. He’s an individual within any team he plays for.

Someone needs to because this is deadset the only place I visit that says a player can ask for a release to join another club and expect his current club to make up the shortfall.

Apparently Roosters are after Mansour as well..why not hey

He isnt worth what the Titans payed him, but at the same time, he would be taking a minimum 50% paycut to join the Eels. Thats a huge amount of money and even though they will approve it, i dont see how they should after the Folau situation.

I dont even think he is worth that quite honestly. In terms of his current contract, its massive unders.

Regarding a certain forward whose club was attempting to release him a few days ago (According to some RL media). From what I have heard, if the club actually wanted to release him they could have just given him the SKD, Jayden Nikorima treatment.
