I was thinking you were mostly right but for me it will be Lodge and Sims with Tagatese Thaiday Joffa and Murphy but honestly, the bench could have any four of eight genuine chances. I really think the first eight rounds will see a lot of forward rotations.

Obviously this only works if Macca is healthy and can play 80 minutes, alternatively Murphy might be able to play 80 for a couple of weeks. The idea would be that Oates starts on the wing and then replaces Glenn at left backrow when he takes a rest at the 30 minute mark, bringing Isaako on to play the last ~50 minutes on the wing. Then we can bring Glenn back on for a short stint in the middle for the second half.

I wouldn't mind seeing it. I do wonder though, that since Macca has injury question marks obviously, I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting on the bench with Thaiday at 9 and Sims at 10.

normally i'd say you're crazy, but bennett would carry mead on the bench for him to play the last 20 last year, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibilities.

me though? i think you're crazy. too much disruption to simply carry a back on the bench. either pick oates or don't, don't have him 5 mins here, 20 mins there, in out shake it all about. can't imagine it would be good for cohesion.

full strength I agree but injuries have a habit of changing things, Sam has started at hooker previously with a utility handling the duties later with Sam moving back into a traditional forward role, for Murphy that takes a bit of the pressure off for him too. I can see it possible Sims starting early in the season for a few rounds till McCullough is back.

I think Oates is ahead as the utility on the bench given he played 2nd row and wing in the last trial. Combine that with Sammy playing hooker for the first 20 and a second stint at hooker later on.

Murphy was 1 of 3 dummy halves in the last trial and I didn't really notice him on the field all that much.

Bench would then be

14. Oates (edge and backs)
15. Offa (prop)
16. Sims (prop/lock)
17. TPJ (lock/prop/second row)

Last year Sammy offered the edge relief role and TPJ has mainly been used in the middle, but can play edge. With Oates we get the edge relief, backs support and keep our middles rotating with what worked last year. Considering we're replacing Blair's 50mins with Lodge and Sammy we may need some more minutes in the middle.

The problem would be if a half goes down early on. I can see Bird covering halves injuries when he returns

If you are going solely based on the trials then Oates won't be in the side at all as he didn't play in the 1-17 in any trial
