wow so we get rid of Lodge and we get Moose back in the front row, no thanks.

Actually let’s make that stronger, no thanks, over my dead body.

Haas won’t be a starting prop for a couple of years.

Moose ain’t a front rower. He’s too small. Everyone except the people on this forum seem to accept that. Every time it comes up on radio/tv etc they all say the same thing.

Gillett and Thaiday can be disposed of. We aren’t missing Gillett and Thaiday is a passenger.

There’s the money for Su’A right there.

I actually think gillo may struggle to come back from his injury. Completely agree with you about moose but where does he fit in ?? Especially if bird goes to lock.

Yet he has been excellent as a prop for years. He has made rep sides as a prop. He is more than good enough to play prop for us, we just couldnt afford to have every prop similar to him. Its about having a balance.

Sammy is finishing anyway so we dont have to dispose of him. We are missing the pre injury Gillett, we arent missing the Gillett who was injured at the start of the year.

Bit early to say he'll be better than Glenn. Glenn has been a fantastic player for the team for a good 10 years now. If he can be AS good, he'll be very happy with his career. Easy to look good for one season, very hard to maintain it year after year.

I feel like Glenn's value to the team is often disregarded. Value for money, I don't think we have a more worthy player in the team.
Couldn’t agree more. He’s consistently been one of our best this year and has never let us down in the past.
Considering he’s getting a lot less than Gillett, I’d be happy to see Gillett chase his pay day at the Titans and keep Glenn and Su’a as our backrowers. Would free up money to help retain other players too.

I don’t know.

I like Moose.

But he’s too small for prop and not skilful enough for lock.

He’s another one I wouldn’t resign.

What? The best second rower of the game in the previous two seasons? Thaiday I can understand but you’re mad if you think Gillett isn’t the cornerstone of this squad and has been for years

What rubbish.

It’s not about balance. That’s a cop out. Teams don’t win with small packs it really is that simple.

Enough of the Moose is a prop delusions.

He’s not a prop, he’s not going to be a prop. He’s a lock if he’s going to play anywhere.

Ps Gillett has been playing like a busted arse since they outlawed the shoulder charge.

Su’A has far more upside than Gillett

How many games has Mcguire played at lock compared to Prop that’s including representative too please?

Its all about balance. He can consistently put out big minutes, and quality ones at that, which allows us to rotate some of our other bigger buys. We dont have a small pack anyway for a start. TPJ, Lodge, Offa and Haas arent exactly small and even though it will probably disappoint you to hear, Moose has made his name mainly playing as a prop and has played rep football playing as a prop. I'm sure if he was too small as you seem to think the greatest coach in the history of the game and the greatest coach at origin level wouldnt have picked him as a prop. For you to say he isnt a prop, and he is not going to be a prop when he has clearly shown he is, is laughable.

It all depends how he is after he returns from his injury. If he's a shadow of his former self you'd have to consider letting him go. Harsh but real

I dont think he would risk playing on if he isnt right. Problem is he has a lucrative contract, so its not as easy as just saying let him go. If he digs he heels in, he can stay on and be very well paid for it.

The NRL has to come up with an incentive system to help clubs keep the talent they develop. It sucks how many players we have running around at other clubs right now. It has to be both a developed player system as well as longevity, that way clubs are properly rewarded
I think someone put a list together in another thread.

Over the NRL bulls***. They crack on about how the salary cap makes it even and brought in football cap for same dubious purpose. How does crap teams paying overs on young but not well proven talent lead to success? Once in a while it is worth it but usually just speculation.

Since it’s apparently legal to limit players income by a cap for the good of the comp perhaps it’s ok to limit wages of players under age 21... maybe max 100 or 150 per year as direct payments and any overs must go to retirement account and super so they don’t go silly with their cash and less appealing to move for quick buck. Hell all player under 25 should probably give 30% into delayed payments and maybe 50% over 250k per year since their brain hasn’t fully developed until then. At least there is some evidence behind the fact that young men do stupid crap till they mature as opposed to a cap which has zero evidence and rationale for improving quality of NRL by making everyone as mediocre as the next.

Think 5% discount for your own junior. 1% per year each year player on your roster. 5% discount after 30, plus 5% after 33 or 34. One club player over 30 could get 20% discount. Not too much to distort market but enough to keep talent in own club.

People writing off Gillett need their heads read. Yeah he wasn’t great this year, the bloke had a fucking broken neck.

He’s the best second rower in the game, let alone our team. **** me dead people have short memories.

A back row of Su’a, TPJ, Gillett is absolutely beast and would be the best second row in the NRL.

Cordner is better than Gillett but yeah, people forget how good Gillett has been over the last few years.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Su'A will stay on the promise of a bigger contract after next year. By 2020, it is likely that Sims, Thaiday, Glenn and possibly Gillett as well will have moved on. And as good as Gillett has been, I would be surprised if he goes on past his final contract year in 2020 anyway. So that is a lot of money being freed up for the likes of Su'A, Carrigan and Fifita who the club will be looking to build around.

The club will know that the post-2020 forward pack really should be:

8. Joffa

10. Haas
11. Fifita
12. Su'A
13. TPJ

15. Flegler
16. Carrigan

Now, of course, the stupid salary cap will mean that one or two of these guys won't be retained, in which case you look at the guys who you MUST keep and it becomes:

8. Joffa

10. Haas

12. Su'A
13. TPJ

15. Flegler

If all I had seen of Sua was his last two games then I would think he is world class. Not keen at all to let him go. Don’t even recognise him from his games at the start of the season.
