If you were broncos coach

If I was the Broncos coach, last night I would have ripped a door off its hinges at full time and thrown at the players then told them to walk home to Brisbane and maybe along the way they can think about what it means to represent the club and how unforgiveable that rubbish performance that we dished up is.

So you would have gone easy on them?

2019:
1. Bird (ideally Isaako, but that aint happening with his current form)
2. Oates
3. Roberts
4. Staggs
5. Isaako
6. Milf
7. Dearden/ SOS
8. Lodge
9. Niko/ Turpin
10. Haas (we paid the big bucks for him and he has a massive motor. He's like Joe O with a WAY higher ceiling)
11. Gillett
12. Fifita
13. Carrigan
14. Turpin/ Niko/ Paix/ one of the halves not starting
15. Pangai
16. Joe
17. Su'a/ Flegler

2020:
1. Gutho/ Holmes (pipe dream. Cows will somehow get him despite dishing out a mil for JT13 and Morgan as well as spending big on average players)/ Isaako/ Milford
2. Isaako
3. Bird (c) (flick Roberts for the cash assuming Boyd and Macca refuse to leave. Bird and Staggs are better players than him IMO and Staggs is one, along with Fifita and Lodge, that we can't afford to lose)
4. Staggs
5. Oates
6. Milf
7. Dearden
8. Lodge (c)
9. B.Brailey (I'd almost be in favour of pulling a Tits/ Dragons to sign him. There are NO hooking options in the comp atm. A hooker with his potential is worth more than a 17 year old JT in the current market)/ Parcell (unsure about him, but who else is there? We could pull a Sticky and go after another English 9)
10. Haas
11. Gillett
12. Fifita
13. Carrigan
14. Niko
15. Pangai (If he wants anything more than 750k cya later)
16. Flegler
17. Su'a

Groom Carrigan for the captaincy.

So you would have gone easy on them?

This is why someone like Des, Madge, or Bellamy (vomit) would have been good for some of our blokes. I really rate Seibs so I'm not going to write him off just yet, but he doesn't seem like someone you'd be scared to piss off.

EDIT: In 2021 we can go after Arrow when he's off contract, I'm sure he'd be sick and tired of the Tits by then.

We could sign Seggy this year and run him/ Niko as a poor man's Cook for Seibs' gameplan.

Old habits die hard. Seibs job is to break them, and get his way of doing things to stick.

Old habits? I mean, how else do you explain BOTH our wingers regularly leaving their wings so that their opposites have a free run to the line?

How else do you explain dropped balls, slow line speed and ineffective and appalling numbers of missed tackles?

For mine it's far less about positional changes and much more un-learning what hasn't worked, learning what does, and putting it into practice. That's what makes a good coach and I actually believe Seibold will achieve it real soon.

Damn I hope you're right, because if you aren't, we're in for some lean years.

I posted it on the Tigers thread, but here goes anyway.

1- Knik (I can't disagree with the idea of Bird there, but I really think Kodi could be our Matty Bowen)
2- Oates (please train nothing but catching the ball, be it from a bomb or a pass)
3- Boyd (as much as I'd love to do it, we can't drop the captain (yet). I reckon he could be quite serviceable there until Roberts is back)
4- Bird (he will develop a lethal combo with Milf imo)
5- Isaako (until Roberts is back, at which point Boyd slides into the wing)
6- Milford (I refuse to scapegoat this guy until he has a proper half next to him)
7- ANY FUCKING ONE with a clue on how to organise a game
8- Matt Lodge (I didn't want this kid at the club, but he's quickly becoming one of my favs)
9- Macca (he cannot play 80 mins, and he needs to have someone gunning for his position)
10- TPJ (I think he's more valuable in shorter powerfull bursts for now, at least until he matures and becomes more consistent)
11- David Fifita (sorry Alex, but you're just not at a starter level anymore)
12- Gillett (should have never left the position)
13- Ofa (I definitely think this is his position, he has an offload and the work rate for it)

14- Staggs (not that he's not deserving of a starting spot, but I want him to relieve Macca, and gain experience at hooker, who knows if doesn't become Berro Mark II)
15- Glenn (still very serviceable and can give young Fifita a breath) / Su'a will eventually take over once fit
16- Haas (hope he delivers on the promise)
17- Flegler/Carrigan (we won't go wrong with either of them imo)

If the Kodi experiment fails (after 4/5 rounds), then Bird is definitely my next in line for the FB position. He would definitely at least properly lead from the back.

Seibs really has to start looking at his captaincy options, because Boyd is anything but an example on the field.

As to 2020, it would largely depend on the results of the above, but mostly whether or not we found a solution for our glaring halfback issue.

Before June 30th:

1. Nikorima
2. Oates
3. Roberts
4. Bird
5. Boyd
6. Milford
7. SOS
8. Lodge
9. Staggs
10. Ofahengaue
11. Fifita
12. Gillett
13. TPJ*
14. Shibasaki
15. Glenn
16. Haas
17. Carrigan

Glenn to break Staggs when he runs out of puff. Isaako's probably better than Shibasaki but I'd prefer he be playing 80 minutes to fix his confidence issues (it seems like he has the yips right now). Boyd takes the wing spot by default - if I thought we had anyone eligible who could take a contested bomb they'd be there instead. Su'a needs time in QCup - his injury was serious and mobility-hindering. I have no idea why he's currently in the 17 when the composition of our squad makes it easier to leave him out. Flegler deserves a spot and with injuries and suspensions would still play more games than not. Were he a bit more experienced I'd give him Joe's spot.

I'm not even a fan of this team but I really don't like the composition of our top 29 so options are limited. Too many forwards, too few legitimate wingers, no alternative hooking option. After June 30th Turpin, Dearden, T Boyd and Farnsworth become options, and Su'a and Isaako have hopefully fixed their issues.

* I like TPJ, and I want him in the team. But I see no point retaining him if we continue to offer one of the game's best offloaders zero support when he takes a hit-up. It would be like playing Luke Burt on the wing and having Nathan Hindmarsh take your conversions.

Future years: Offload McCullough and Boyd if anyone offers to take them, sign a hooker, sign a back up hooker, offload Ofahengaue if he costs more than 300 to retain, sign a proven, if unspectacular, wing option for depth, consider moving Bird to fullback while keeping an eye on Niu's development (having two big-money centres is a poor use of cap space and blocks the pathways of developing talent like Staggs). And just in general focus more on signing and developing players who make intelligent decisions rather than those with astounding physical gifts (except TPJ). Right now we're just playing stupidly.

If I was the broncos coach I’d resign from my post immediately

If I were coach, Boyd and McC would be gone immediately. "You've had plenty of time to prove your worth, you fucked it, it's over lads. You'll be playing Q cup until you either resign or retire."

Isaako would be on real thin ice and Nikorima would be playing bench hooker with SOS coming in to 7. This season is a bust anyway so Staggs would be getting blooded in the 9. We've persisted with spuds in key positions for too long and now we have to take the bitter pill to rectify it.

Oh and whoever has been responsible for recruitment and retention over the past few years would be getting turfed, whether Locky is apart of them or not.

I already named who I'd have at fullback last year. Spoiler alert, genius. It wasn't Boyd. Again, my entire point which can't get through a few of your thick skulls is that (And this has changed recently) he has not been the reason for our losses. The criticism wasn't deserved. It is now because he's been terrible.

Also what are you betting? Can I point you to last years round 11 thread?
I really can’t be bothered responding to the other tripe in your post, so I’ll try to keep this as short and sweet as possible.

So I’m clear, and to borrow your language; you can’t seem to get through your thick skull that Boyd’s terrible attitude, application and efforts over the last 18 months are absolutely one of the reasons this team has been stinking it up for as long as it has. It’s toxic and trickles from the top down.

But for so long, you’ve been defending him against such criticism and still can’t see that it’s been a problem for more than just “recently” as you put it.

Now he’s stinking it up deluxe, as many of us have recognised for a very, very long time, you’ve been strangely quiet on the topic.

Don't worry about Cult.

Agree on Gebbie, looks an absolute gun, but was told by @1910 that due to the top 30 squad you can't draft in others outside of that which sucks. So 2020 maybe for him

You can but you have to make them part of your 30, you'd have to give him a spot. Not just pay him from your second cap like you could before like Fridge or Parcell if you'd registered them.

Under the old system you could have your 25 but register a guy at Wynnum and then pay him out of your cap if you had the money in your second cap.

Parcell would have played more games in 2015 but the second cap was full. He was never in the Broncos top 25.

I still cant believe Michael Purcell cant get a shot at the NRL. So much ability and i think he is maturing nicely now.

He was pretty down the first three weeks this year, came good last week. His second try was quality.
