Boyd - I'm trying too hard

Maybe when being beaten by 32 points it's best to not stand there with a big smile going on about how "there's more to life than footy it just wasn't our night".

Oh hell yeah.............that does grind my gears......and he has said it a couple of times now! "ffffuuuuuuuuuu: (me motioning to my TV as he says it)

Ha ha ha ha, really? They didn't see ANYONE else was on the field. It's always Boyd's fault despite the fact that 99.999% of the keyboard warriors couldn't even get to that point on the field without a medicab.

If playing top flight rugby league is a requirement of commententing on forums, well lets just scrap BHQ and the subreddit. What a silly misdirection of criticism of Boyd.

To be honest, Reynolds' bombs were immense. Compare them to Milf's, they went 1.5+ times as high, and spiralled like crazy.
Sure, but he's been doing it for a while now.

Arguing and debating whether Boyd is shit or not is pointless. Truthfully, if we're going to hammer Boyd for how shit he's been, we have to be fair and hammer the entire Broncos squad. Each and every player has been shit thus far. Why does Boyd get special mention? Because he's our most experienced? He's our Captain? Yeah, I can see that but we have to be rational. The entire team is shit house, it's not just Boyd who's crap.

This is true of course but this is a thread specifically about Boyd. Also, he is the captain, so his game sets the standard.

How can get up one of his teammates for being rubbish when he is doing the same himself?

“Follow my example”, hmm not the best idea...”follow my words!”

Cody Walker put one up into the stratosphere. It was bloody ludicrous. Reminded me of some of the ones Locky used to do.

I don't agree with that, We've got players putting in and delivering good games & in lieu of that their effort is there. Flegler, Milford, Lodge, Staggs, Haas, Fafita, Oates & Nikorima are putting in each week, execution is off on a week to week basis but you can tell a clear difference between the attitudes of those guys versus Boyd. The team is losing yes, but don't level the player base down to a heartless prick like Boyd to protect him.

For you that is a ridiculous comment that is beneath you. None of us purport to be:
(a) professional athletes;
(b) on a reported salary of $600,000 - $800,000 a year;
(c) the captain of a major RL club with responsibilities to lead by example.

Your passionate defence of Boyd is one thing, but if you cannot concede that his performances this year in a number of respects are well below what is expected of a first grade fullback, let alone a highly experienced, former representative player and the captain of the team, you are doing exactly what you accuse others of doing.

His involvement in the first two tries last night was pathetic.
Well, I have conceded several times that his form had been down as he himself admitted. I in fact didn't have to concede that as I'd never claimed his form was good or great. It's ridiculous when you try to paint it as if I had. His involvement in the first try was not pathetic, it was completely understandable and unfortunate for him and the Broncos. It wouldn't have mattered who was there, it was just the bounce of the ball. We have much bigger issues than Boyd but you guys can keep kicking if you wish. I'm just not going to join in with the mob mentality.

Don’t watch the 300 game highlight package of Boyd gents. It’ll make you cry.

Maybe it’s not really Boyd and it’s a doppleganger and Boyd actually quit in October 2015

He’s shit now, but his form prior to 2017 was elite, its why his 2018/19 form brings up such toxicity from fans, how does a bloke lose form so dramatically and he & the coaching staff refuse to acknowledge the obvious.

I disagree. Boyd’s form has always fluctuated wildly. Ask guys that were happy to see him go when he first got pushed out of the broncos. Ask knights fans. He is capable of really good things but I think he is like a poor man’s Hayne. He’s really only had 2 incredible seasons and the rest was either decent but not up to the same standards or very poor.

Respect your view mate, when I heard we got him with Bennett for 2015 I was excited, certainly didn’t disappoint for the first 2 years with us.

Isaako needs to put a wheel chair under Boyd when catching bombs, so he doesn't have to get up all the way from the ground.
Let's not give Isaako anymore to think about when the ball is up in the air

Boyds performance is only a small part in the motivation factor for these players. The money they're getting paid should motivate them, the jersey they're wearing should motivate them and most of all, the coach should motivate them.

I was excited too. I thought he could bring some experience and stability into our spine and our defence. Which he did. He came on reasonable coin and his contract would see him play into his early 30’s. I always knew he was a risky signing though. What really gets me about Boyd, and admittedly this isn’t his fault, is his contract. It’s ridiculous, and I find it really hard to see it as anything other than someone looking out for a mate rather than a rational decision. The talent we could have acquired with Boyd’s money is very significant, and for him to take up that much cap space and go back to playing like the uninterested cat he was at Newcastle does my head in.

All good points. But the captain is the bloke you look to on the field when it's tough, and Boyd is the first to throw his arms up when things get tough. I also think Wayne let a 'there's more important things than winning' mentality creep into the place.

I agree, the deal at the time raised eyebrows and it now more than ever looks like Bennett looking after Boyd.
