State of Origin Game III - NSW vs QLD

Well that sucked. Thought we might have stolen it.

Ethan Lowe was awesome, the bench forwards not soo much.

Definitely missed Arrow’s motor.

My kingdom for a centre as chambers is a liability in defence.

Overall impressed with the effort to rebound from Game 2

Lowe was full of heart and effort, but geez I wish he had more natural ability too. He'd be the perfect player then, but there were a number of opportunities that we didn't make full use of because he isn't particularly hard to tackle.

I'm not a fan of Tedesco's teeth. Looks like a horse. Good player though. Well deserved PoS.

The Cook-Tedesco show did us again. We nullified them well in the first half but went to sleep a bit on them in the second. Fifita's miss on Cook was very lazy and Oates has had an absolute shocker with his hands this year.

Don't want to be too harsh on him and know he is very young but Fifita doesn't seem to have an overly big motor. He looked gassed very early into his stint. I think he is a bit out of his depth at the moment at this level. Has really only made the side on reputation. Would love him to now come back to the Broncs and rip in for the remainder of the year. Would like to see him impose himself on a game a bit more. Great talent but I don't think he is injecting himself into games enough.

1. Kalyn Ponga
2. Corey Oates (Valentine Holmes)
3. Hymel Hunt
4. Marion Seve
5. Dane Gagai
6. Cameron Munster
7. Daly Cherry-Evans (c)
8. Josh McGuire
9. Jake Friend
10. Josh Papalii
11. Ethan Lowe
12. Matt Gillett
13. Jai Arrow

14. AJ Brimson
15. David Fifita
16. Joe Ofahengaue
17. Christian Welch

I think this team could give the series a shake next year, assuming that young guys continue to improve (Ponga, Oates, Hunt, Seve, Munster, Arrow, Brimson, Fifita, Ofahengaue, Welch all under 25)

Considering the age of Friend would you consider Mahoney at 9 if he continues his form into next season? I'm also not sold on Gillett going forward. I love the bloke and would love to see him return to his old self but I fear his best days are behind him now. I understand it would be horrible coming back from a neck injury like his, but there's no way we would have gotten the same performance we got from Lowe out of Gillett last night.

I'd go with something new, build the next gen squad to an extent:

1. Ponga
2. Oates
3. Munster
4. Opacic
5. Gagai
6. Dearden
7. DCE
8. Joffa
9. Mahoney/Turpin
10. Papalii
11. Kaufusi
12. Lowe
13. Arrow

14. Turpin/Mahoney
15. McGuire
16. Molo
17. Fifita

18. Flegler

Absolutely I'd consider Mahoney, I nearly put him in that team list, just thought with having 10 guys under the age of 25 we could use an experienced head in the 9 jersey.

Very interested in Mahoney's development though. I also agree about Gillett, he hasn't been the same since his neck injury, the other option could be Lowe on the left and Kaufusi back on his preferred right edge (which might make him more effective), OR hopefully Coen Hess pulls his finger out in the off-season and actually becomes the player he's supposed to be.

For qld to be great again, the broncos need to be great first. I’m all for broncos rising first before the qld origin team though.
I sort of agree with this. Please let Coates turn good to ditch Chambers. Or any Qld centre.

I got to say though I felt Munster was better at 1 then Ponga, he is a much stronger Ball runner, but you need both in the side so you have to keep Munster at 6 since Ponga doesn't really seem to work as a Half.

QLD need someone who can stay with Munster as a backup when on a run and we will have tries by the truck loads.

Milford in the halves and Munster can play centre. Anything to rid us of Chambers.
