Folau has no regrets - would say it all again

Does it say he can't share his beliefs, or does it say he can't say things that are offensive on social media?
Who decides the two are not mutually exclusive?
If his beliefs based on his religious teachings are that drunks go to hell, and he quotes a bible passage stating that, its offensive to drunks, but not offensive to other followers of his religion.
This is the murky water ive been talking about.

I don't think anyone has an issue with him saying drunks go to hell.

The point is, what is offensive is an individual perspective.
I am certain the people who follow the same religion as Folau found nothing offensive at all in his social media activity.
To the rest of us, its offensive.

There is no denying Israel is not the sharpest tool in the shed.
I think he is easily influenced and footballers in general tend to not be the smartest blokes around ( a generalization, i know).
I also think he is a fool for what he posts, and is committing social suicide in doing so, especially in todays climate.
I just cant help but be seriously concerned that a man has lost his career, his ability to provide for his family, etc over his beliefs.
I would be more inclined to shut down organized religion altogether before destroying one mans life for believing in it.
It is a slippery slope for sure

He is threatening them to burn for an eternity. So yeah it is worse than what Lodge and Packer did. Have you got any young relatives? What would you do if some weirdo scared them with the promise of eternal suffering?
It’s make believe though..it’s just a story. The old (sticks and stones) saying come to mind, that’s what I’d be telling them. He didn’t grab some young kid on the street and yell it at them, he put a tweet on the internet.

Folau had a choice and he chose poorly. Believe what you like but express your opinion privately. He knew when he signed his contract what the conditions were and chose to ignore them. He got what he deserved. He's not been persecuted for his beliefs, he lost his job because he broke his agreement. Homosexuality has existed in hundreds if not thousands of species, it's not a choice thing.

Besides, what kind of teaching dictates that there is infinite punishment for a finite crime? (I personally don't think it's a crime)

His twitter feed gets broadcasted by butt hurt homos.
The preachers are doubling down on this message every Sunday, where is the outrage?!

Each to their own beliefs, the media has turned into monster that is influencing our lives.

these people you speak of never agreed to abide by a social media policy preventing this kind of talk in exchange for over $1 million a year

Hell doesn’t exist.

who gives a flying **** what he says.

can play footy. Would love him back at the broncos

Hey kids, buy my books!

(p.s no ****)

Wasn't there several things in the old testament condoning slavery? What would happen if it turned out Israel Folau actually had been keeping 3 slaves in his basement, and ARU fired him? I wonder if @Midean would come to his defense - "Well, to be fair, he's just practising his religion.. That seems like they're discriminating against him because of his beliefs."

I agree with everything you have just said.
However, the key thing here is Izzy is being hung out to dry, for his faith, why is Izzy copping all the punishment for the system he believes in?
Should it not be the church and the church leaders being punished?
Does Izzy not deserve the right to freedom of speech or the right to believe in a faith he chooses?
In no way is Izzy the instigator of these beliefs, he is a follower of a religion, not its creator, he did not dictate their religious laws, he just follows them.
If Izzy has lost his career and income over his beliefs, shouldn't we hunt down and sack ALL the followers of this religion? Why is it only him who has copped this level of punishment?
Its insanity.

I am not a religious person, i could care less what someone else chooses to believe.
I also think everyone can make their own decisions on how they live their life, i do not however, believe it is right to punish someone for having a different belief system to my own.
We are bordering on a dangerous trend if we allow this sort of thing to go unchecked.
Do we shut down all churches? I can tell you right now, under Christianity, Catholicism, and Islam, just to name a few, that homosexuality is considered a sin that WILL send you to hell.
I wholeheartedly disagree with that belief, but who the hell am i to tell someone else they cant believe it? Let alone lose their career and livlihood for believing something i don't.

I think it go's terribly from a PR perspective.
We would lose sponsors, and a considerable number of fans.
Do not misunderstand me, i am not condoning Israels beliefs or his actions.
I am however, appalled that a man has lost his job, his livelihood and a lot of money for believing in his chosen faith, weather i agree with it or not, and its sets a very dangerous precedence against freedom of choice/speech.h

The religion should be banned before any one person is crucified for following it.
Err , His church is not signed by the ARU. It's really pretty simple mate. Try and keep up.

The sponsors of the ARU deemed it offensive. End of story. That's why he can't say it as a representive of the ARU. He's free as a bird to sprout his dribble to his hearts content now. I think his handlers really misread the room on this one.

New testament too! Slavery and incest were totally cool in the bible right along with genocide! Great book, oh so moral. Best keep the discussion in the right thread though.😉

Wow mate you are really reaching now.
There is a big difference between quoting scripture, and participating in slavery lol.
One is illegal, the other is not, for starters.
It would be akin to Israel beating up gay people as opposed to telling them to repent.

Israel did nothing wrong, no matter how much you disagree with his opinion.
He shared scripture, from the bible based on his religion and his beliefs.
Also, i am not defending Israels beliefs, try and keep up and comprehend what im saying.
I am defending his right to believe what he wants and practice the religion he wants, free of persecution.
Dont try and paint me as a bad guy here by insinuating i agree with what Israel says, because i flat out do not.
I do however worry about freedoms being abused, which is what has happened here.
You guys keep saying its up to the ARU to dictate the terms of the contract, and thats true, INSIDE THE BOUNDS OF THE LAW.
To tell a person they can maintain their employment so long as they dont share their religious views publicly falls directly under religious discrimination.
You all keep telling me how simple this is, yet there is a multi-million dollar case going before the high courts and new laws looking to be implemented in direct relation to this incident.
It is far from simple.
