NEWS Broncos put the feelers out for Folau

Israel Folau, is this the same bloke who thought he was destined to be the next Wallabies captain?

Wasn't the issue with Folau that he refused to delete the tweet? I assume he still hasn't.

Unfortunately, putting all that to one side, he did sue his former employer after breaching their contract. There isn't many businesses that would take on that potential liability.
I don't blame him. They set out to destroy his life, by cherrypicking his sincere views based on received wisdom from a popular book. And most probably succeeded.

I've mentioned this before: I never thought RA had a right to terminate his ability to earn a living, but I do think any employer has a right to dismiss or not to hire an employee who routinely causes untenable friction in the workplace. The Broncos would probably better off not signing him simply because the media circus would disrupt the team.

The real discussion is whether various religious texts can be interpreted as hate speech, rather than taking it out on the poor bastards trying to make sense of these primitive cryptic tomes. I would hate to see Payne interrogated on Islam, for example.

The truth is these texts are poorly written, contradictory and open to interpretation. So often I've seen the view that "moderate" believers are fine, it's the "fundamentalists" who are the problem. Because only half believing something makes you okay.

The issue was he mentioned gays.

Uh.. what? Why are you calling Fifita & Haas pieces of shit? Fifita has had no off-field incidents bar the scam in Bali, and Haas' only off-field incident was driving without a license to training, which is stupid, but nothing even close to warranting the "piece of shit" label.

Point is we were all POS at some point in our lives whether through stupidity or ignorance. But calling a religious person that just for preaching is just way off.

Have any of his team mates complained about him being a dick, or defended him, for that matter?

I think he was rightfully sacked for breach of contract but I also pretty strongly think it should never have been the big issue that it was. If people follow a guy on social media, unless he's calling something illegal people can choose to unfollow.

It's definitely manufactured outraged and he was used as the fall guy. Do we really believe there were some gay people who got genuinely upset about Folau's post? They'd have to never have heard of Christianity before that date.

I get it though, he's representing a national brand as a prominent highly paid employee and you need to be smart enough to avoid hot button topics. He signed a contract after being warned previously to say he wouldn't do it again and did it again.

For starters, NRL has said they don’t want him at all. It would be extremely foolish for Broncos to go for him after the comments he has made recently and in the past.

I doubt Seibold would want someone like him at the club after the way he has carried on.

I feel this is just a click bait story and has no merit whatsoever.

Of course. The media played the wrong ball on Folau because it's a fashionable meme. Here's why:

1. You have to believe in Hell to take what he said as an insult.
2. People who believe in Hell in a big way think just about everyone in going there.
3. He didn't just name homosexuals; he also shamed atheists, fornicators and drunks.
4. Of course, that also includes super nice guy Payne Haas, a Muslim.
5. Yet Payne thinks everyone who is not a Muslim is going to Hell. That's just religion.

So this isn't about picking on gays. Folau is just warning them the Bible says they'll go to Hell if they don't repent. In his head, it's a public service announcement. He's not saying he wants to bash them or they'll give him aids if he tackles them.

I get the feeling that Seibs can probably see past all of the bullshit.

It's incredible, compare that to Matt Lodge. Somehow the Roosters do dodgy shit time and time again and never get called out on it. Jake Friend did some really feral shit, so did SKD. Roosters signed them both without a peep.
Not to mention Friend is captain of the rorters...

I really don't understand the NRL's obsession with the roosters... they have no fan base and as soon as Politis kicks the bucket they'll become a basket case

The Brisbane Broncos can confirm that the club has not expressed any interest in signing Israel Folau. Contrary to media speculation, the Broncos have not been part of discussions of any kind with the player. The club’s roster is settled for the 2020 season. We wish Israel well in the future.

Interesting they say the roster is settled. No more signings or just fluff talk?

..cherrypicking his sincere views..
This is the crux of the matter, the manufactured outrage from the LBGTIQxyz pro-media is garnering opinion to hate the bloke.

No room for signings anyway (cap space or top 30 spots), I think this is what we're going to be working with moving forward.

Maybe the afternoon signings would be ok

If SBW or Haas did what Folau did they'd be destroyed and the only difference is they wouldn't get 3 million dollars from idiots supporting their business venture to rort Rugby Union for a few million dollars. They certainly wouldn't have the PM of the country backing them either.
