Broncos 2020 Squad

Lets just move Oates to backrow already.. Fifita and Oates on the edges would be deadly.. It frees up some space in the backline too

1. Isaako
2. Boyd
3. Bird
4. Staggs
5. Coates
6. Milford
7. Croft
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Oates
12. Fifita
13. Pangai

I don't see any risk in moving Oates to the forwards. We should at least see how he goes.
What about his work rate. I'm All for moving him to the second row but he struggles at times to be involved on the wing. In the second row his work rate will skyrocket. I'd start him off the bench or move him from wing mid match to limit his potential liability in defence and allow him to grow accustomed to the role.
Throwing him straight into a starting spot would be madness.

let's not move Oates away from where he is most effective.

with our pack, the only place he fits into the backrow will be in the ISC

besides, Coates is no where near ready (defensively) for regular NRL

Article on the Broncos site today which confirmed this is how we've been lining up for training -

1. Isaako
2. Perese
3. Boyd
4. Bird
5. Coates

Opposed team: Arthars, Farnworth, Vudogo, Kennar

Rehab group: Staggs, Oates

I'm a little concerned that Boyd is training at left centre.. I feel that if Bird is planning on playing left centre and Boyd is planning on playing right wing, that's where they should be training.. I'm preparing myself for the possibility we could be seeing Staggs on the bench tbh..

I like the idea of staggs on the bench he can play in forwards as well as in the backs Siebold has played backs before off bench. He can be our real impact player instead of having Macca in the 17.

Ohhhhhhh reaaaallllly

Yes. This is exactly why I've been saying it [emoji2369]

Surely you don't bench one of the lone few great players we had last season as he just comes off a break out year.
How many players do you see go well after a breakout year.

And Nikorima was one of our best weapons in 15 coming off the bench.

We made a gf with his X factor

Yeah nikorima would run around like he was covered in sunscreen , as long as he didn’t have to make any tackles he was super effective as a 14....

This is what annoyed me about Nikorima / Broncos during 16&17, Niko, in my opinion, was and probably still would be the best 14 in the game.... but his insistence to play 7 has kind of killed his career

Do we really want to wait for an injury and throw him in cold or are we willing to put our eggs in the basket of hopoate.
If he at least is blooded some time in the match there he has a chance to get a feel for the position and can have his weaknesses ironed out. Granted that would be better in ISC playing 80 minutes in the role but he wouldn't cop that and at the end of the day he is our best winger when in form (not that often last year though).
If that form from last year continues or gets worse, we may be faced with dropping him. Training and playing limited time in the second row gives another option, gets him ready for when he has to transition, and strengthens our hand in the event of an injury.
Otherwise it will be staggs or bird in the same role anyway and I think of those 3 Oates is best suited (staggs doesn't have the size, bird could but will need to work at playing centre as it is).

I think Bird could be the right centre because he is significantly better on that side. Staggs can likely still be effective on the left. Honestly I don't think Boyd will be in the team round 1. He is done.

Seibold has already said Boyd is going to be in the side.

Just read this article on NRL.com about

I like this kid more every time I hear from him. He comes across as dedicated, professional and without an ego. To draw inspiration from Teddy is not something you expect from somebody so young. A president and commander of the Rough Riders in the Spanish- American war, somebody who came from a silver spoon family so to speak but was no stranger to adversity. As he overcame illness as a child through a physical and dedicated lifestyle. He Idolized the civil war commanders and jumped at his opportunity to see combat in Cuba.

Most kids these days would have something said by an idiot like Justin Beiber or Snoop dog tattooed on their body but Carrigan has a quote from the equivalent of Churchill or Joseph Joffre. Leaders among leaders.

It's good he can go deeper than skin deep into history. I'll leave my own dislike for Theodore Roosevelt aside. When all is said and done he led an amazing life even if he was essentially a war monger.

How was T. Roosevelt a war monger??
