Which guy was that? Because I have read every Coronial report in Australia that relate to death by policing operation and I do not remember one that said that any person at all has died because they were tasered.

Some people who have been tasered have died, yes. But never once has a Coroner found that the Taser is what actually killed said person.

Antonio Galeano. Tasered 28 times. The police lied about that not realising the taser counts every time it's deployed. And yes, the coroner said the taser was not to blame but come on.

You’re right, the medical evidence should be ignored and the ‘vibe‘ considered.

Here is one interesting fact about Conducted Energy Weapons. They do indeed record the number of cycles when deployed. What they don’t record is how many times in said cycles, an electrical circuit is actually formed and how many times that electricity actually passes through the body of said person. All it takes is for one wire on one probe to be broken and the circuit can no longer be effectively formed. If that happens, the trigger could be pulled 228 times and it would make no effective difference. That wire is about as strong as 3lbs fishing line. How hard would that be to break when a large man is rolling around on the ground?

Antonio died due to a heart attack brought on by asphyxiation and excited delirium. There is more medical evidence he died from being handcuffed for an extended duration and his related body positioning, than there is the Taser, but I accept it’s a convenient cop out for many.

Was it the same coroner that found Mulrunji had died from tripping over a step?

Nope, may have been the same coroner, but that coroner found Mulrunji died from blunt force trauma which split his liver in half, amongst other injuries, primarily due to a fall not by tripping on anything, as I recall.

Pity the Government wouldn’t listen when they were told repeatedly that building a watchhouse out of an old loading dock, which required police to reverse into said loading dock and then remove prisoners from their vehicles and then walk the prisoners up the stairs onto said loading dock, was a terrible idea...

In the end, that decision cost the taxpayer $27m more than the preferred option of building a new watchhouse would have (costed at approx $3m)...

I'm certain that was the copper's excuse, that he tripped over a step. 4 broken ribs, ****ed liver and blunt force trauma from tripping on a step. Then left to die in the cells like a piece of garbage. Same guy ended up quitting a few years ago when several other cases of assault were brought against him. Anyway, I don't mean to take the thread off topic, perhaps it could be moved to the policing thread.

If I was Curtis Scott or his legal team I wouldn't want the NRL making any kind of determination on my guilt based on the body cam images.
As it stands he isn't stood down, then the NRL views the images and if they stand him down after it could create the impression he is guilty.
I wouldn't willingly take that chance of having my case influenced.

although since Scott and his Lawyer have been so vocal that the body cam footage would prove his innocence and the fact that he was tasered for no reason ... then refusing to hand over the footage could back fire and create the impression that he is full of shit and guilty as charged

Possibly. Would you want that decision being made by Greenturd ? or prefer to go in front of a judge/jury with all your arguements presented how you want.

If it ends up in court, as it might because it did with DeBelin, the NRL will need to show at least, that they acted fairly in accordance with their rules. Giving them that reason on a platter is never going to be a successful strategy, in my opinion.

But there are two aspects here, one is his guilt or otherwise for his criminal charges, then there is how the NRL perceives his behaviour. The NRL sacked Todd Carney and he did not break any criminal law in the incidents that led to his sacking, so Scott may not be in a winnable position anyway. But if he is ‘not really’ at fault in that camera footage in criminal terms, the NRL could still decide it doesn’t meet their behavioural standards anyway and sack him, as they did with Carney.

He is possibly damned either way, but as I said earlier, I’d be damned if I’d hand over potentially incriminating evidence willingly, just because someone wants it as it makes their job easier...

Scott's legal team have now reportedly got permission from the police to allow the NRL to view the footage of the incident.
 
Unless this legal team are stupid, I don't think they would be pushing for the footage to be released so much if there wasn't some truth to what they are claiming.

This seems like craziness from the NRL... If the NRL decide to enforce the no fault stand down after seeing the video footage (a key piece of evidence) are they not effectively suggesting he's guilty??

On the other hand if they choose to let Scott play are they suggesting the police don't have enough evidence.

The courts will also ignore whatever decision the NRL make therefore if the court's ruling differs to what the NRL decide now then that will also come back to bite them (ie. Scott found not guilty after the NRL decide to enforce the stand down).

Just seems silly for the NRL to purposefully put themselves in the middle like this... they should've either just stood him down based on the charge sheet (and let Scott appeal if he wanted) or let him play because it doesn't meet the criteria (ie. 11 years jail sentence)... the way it's going at the moment is like them having their own play along court room
