V‘LANDYS: LET’S LOOK AT RE-DISTRIBUTING ANZ STADIUM’S $810m
The NRL is considering lobbying the NSW State Government to redistribute the $810 million pledged to upgrade ANZ Stadium.

With the coronavirus wreaking havoc on the world as we know it, the NRL is thrashing out a variety of contingency plans to try and save the game.

Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’Landys floated the prospect of approaching the NSW Government about the ANZ Stadium re-build at a hook-up of all 16 NRL club CEO’s on Tuesday.

The NSW State Government outlined plans last September to spend $810 million on reducing the capacity of ANZ Stadium to a 71,000-seat arena.

But the NRL is considering asking NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to scrap the current upgrade and instead re-distribute part of the funds across all sports in NSW.

The plans for the $810 million ANZ re-build included changing the playing field from being an oval shape to being a rectangular shape.

The proposed upgrade has drawn staunch criticism for being a complete waste of tax-payers money in some quarters.

Under the revised proposal the NRL is considering pushing, the ANZ Stadium re-build could still be allocated up to $500 million but the rest of the funds could be pumped into a crisis stimulus for sport.

Suncorp Stadium have also offered to host all 16 games on a week-to-week basis when the NRL returns.

Imagine all the off-season shit the almost-unemployed journalists will find players doing over the next 6 months...

Players, like most of us, would be in isolation. Journos rifling through trash would be frowned upon by the health department.

Paul White Broncos members announcement:

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today in the wake of the decision to suspend the 2020 NRL Premiership due to the coronavirus pandemic, until such time as it is deemed medically safe to recommence.

As a club, we fully support the NRL’s decision which is based on public health advice and is for the greater good of the wider Australian community.

But that doesn’t make the hurt any less.

We know how much you love your footy and how much you love the Broncos – your club, our club.

The support you have shown during the increasingly difficult times in recent weeks has been incredible.

The players drew inspiration from that loyal Bronxnation support and passion to begin the season with two great performances and wins over the Cowboys and Rabbitohs.

Whilst we now have a firm decision on the suspension of games, at this stage there are still many unknowns in relation to the 2020 season. The NRL have provided a number of scenarios that we are factoring into our planning.

The NRL is working with broadcasters, sponsors, players and all 16 clubs to find a way forward – but there is a strong intent to play more rugby league at some stage in 2020.

Once we receive more information, we will communicate promptly and directly with you – our valued members.

In the meantime, our club will do all it can to make sure we are in the best position to move forward once the threat of COVID-19 has passed.

Every part of our community is hurting at this time, and the Broncos is no different.

Our club, and rugby league, is in a fight for survival – there is no sugar-coating it – and as a business we face some hard decisions in the coming days and weeks.

But we draw strength from the support of our members and the passion we all share for the Broncos.

On behalf of everyone at our club, I would like to thank you for your continued support and patience.

Our overriding concern is always the health and safety of our players, staff, members, supporters and the community.

We urge you to continue to follow the government’s advice to minimise the impact of this global pandemic.

We wish you, your family and friends, and everyone in the Bronxnation community continued safety and good health.

Which would mean a 15-game comp going into December.

I imagine because of that, next season will also be a shortened season so there can be a proper off-season and pre-season and everything going back to normal in 2022.

Nope, it was said on NRL 360 tonight that if it did go in to December next season would start in March, the only difference is instead of a pre-season prior to Christmas they're playing footy.

Will obviously need to restructure the pre-season to give the players a fair break, but it'll be fine.

Let's say the NRL season starts back up again and Broncos end up winning it.

Are people going to take that win seriously?

So while this lockout happens, it’s my understanding that there is no training allowed but Scomo just said personal training of 10 people is allowed ? Shouldn’t that allow a backs session and then a forwards session during the week? If teams don’t train how will they be ready once the suspension is lifted?

Once the NRL know when they can return they are looking to do a mini pre-season to allow for players to train and get ready for when they return to play.

Are the Broncos refunding season ticket holders?
