besides just because he has been moved on by a new coach in 2020, doesn't mean that he wasn't what the old coach wanted and/or needed in 2017 ... and it certainly doesn't "prove" you right about him, all it shows is that he isn't the style of hooker that fits our current coaches game plan.

I do wonder when McCullough is gonna have the heat on him, most of the people that praised him all seem to be a lot more reserved with his development or are outright off the bandwagon entirely. At one stage I guess we all thought he'd kick on, but he hasn't, so it begs the question - when does...

Nothing has changed...

While I'm happy he's been released as 1) he has no future at the club, 2) he's taking up salary cap space that we could desperately spend elsewhere and 3) he's taking up a spot on the roster, I'm not exactly dancing on his grave. Dude gave his best for his boyhood club, it wasn't enough in the end but you can't fault his efforts. As others have said, if he came through in the 90's he'd have been a terrific player, it's just unfortunate for him that the game has changed so much that being a tacklebot isn't enough at hooker, you have to playmake as well and for one reason or another he just couldn't do it.

Let's hope his work ethic rubbed off onto some of the youngsters and he gets to play out his career on his terms, there's no need to kick a guy when he's given his all for the club.

On a side note: Seibold really is doing a good job of phasing out the old and bringing in the new guys, long may it continue.

If nobody wanted him, he would still be here. They cant just terminate his contract because he is declining as a player.

I think up until Turpin nobody has really stepped up to take his spot. People have had their moments, but they havent been able to force their way in past him because while he hasnt been elite, ( up until probably the last 2 years ) he has been solid and reliable enough. Turpin now need to really step up because if he doesnt we are in trouble. We dont really have another option yet imo.

Yep, this is the overlooked thing with Macca departing. When Seggy was here it wouldn't have been an issue, but as it stands we are planning to go (hopefully) the next 20 odd weeks without an injury to Turpin. It's scary to think we're just one injury away from looking at a combination of Paix/Glenn/Hetherington to handle the duties in the most critical position on the field in the modern game.

Exactly right.....there were quite a few defenders of McC for a long time, but even they dropped off over the last couple years. Nothing really there to beat your chest about
