OFFICIAL Titans get their man with Fifita signing three-year deal

You cant have quality forwards and shit backs/halves or vica versa, you need that balance.

Agreed. It also shows they have alot of faith in AJ Brimson, Tanah Boyd and Jamal Fogarty as future spine players.

You'd have to think they're throwing all this cash at forwards with a plan to use Taylor's cash on a quality half down the line.

Proctor, James, Roberts, Don, Cartwright, S Boyd, Peats, Copley are all on the way out. Losing that much experience it wouldn't surprise me if their next move is for a JBromwich/Tamou/Tolman type.

I know there has been talk on here about not playing him for the rest of the year. If he's fit, we need to play him and we need to play our best team. I think it's really important we finish the season off well leading into next year to give us something to build off.
Not sure how letting him fill a spot this year helps us build combinations and confidence for next year though. Get someone in there that will be here next year and let them begin to form some semblance of understanding with their 5/8 centre and winger now.

He's shown he's after the paycheque (and good luck to him). His half-hearted efforts would only serve to further demoralize the team. There should be no more Broncos jerseys given out to him as far as I'm concerned.

Make him sit on the sidelines and watch his 'mates' run around trying to dig themselves out of the present hole they are in.

They did talk about Taylor as well, I got the impression he will be on the chopping block or will need to take a pretty big haircut.

It's not just about combinations. It's about getting some confidence back into some if these fellas and I think having Fifita there will help that. I think he'll put in if played.

Sorry matey you 'thinking' he'll put in is not enough to convince me.

The team will get all the confidence in the world as soon as the club manages to come to some sort of financial agreement and gets rid of the bungling Pieman and installs a proper coach.

Sit his money-grabbing arse down, and let him face his 'mates' who all agreed to take unders to stay together. I'd take the money too. But I'm damn sure I would have signed long before the figure got to where it was to stay with the mates I made a pact with.

Saving his sorry arse in Bali obviously counted for nothing either. I don't want that sort of character in my team.

Listening to Dennis Watt, you can certainly understand what the Titans are trying to do with their recruitment, they are bringing together a group of talented young guys who have history and association and then putting them under a coach who seems to have a bit nous.

I think the problem is tho they have invested so much of the cap in these guys its like going all in, with a bit of luck it could pay off but they will need to compromise the overall quality and depth of the squad, a few injuries to the key guys and they are screwed.

I think you need that balance of quality across the squad in the game now, with the speed and toughness of the game injuries are a problem, investing too big in a few players is a recipe for disaster. You need those backup players ready to step in.

You cant have quality forwards and shit backs/halves or vica versa, you need that balance.
That plan sounds incredibly familiar........

Seems to be working well for us...

Or it will reinforce that we’re fucked without him and crush what little confidence they have left after the media rub it in their faces, They need wins without him.

It’s a lose lose situation, we win with him titans and all the media outlets with rub it in our face even more. Don’t play him and risk making him resentful and him never coming back...

Not sure it's a lose lose situation. No one player is bigger than the club. If he wants to come back he comes back on our terms. At this moment in time I'm not sure I would want him back either.

How do you attract players to your club if you are petty, treat players poorly and are the worst team in the comp?

It's silly. He will play if available and he should as the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Hope Tallis stands on a bit of Lego while not wearing shoes. Fuckwit.

For a guy who continually tries to tell Triple M listeners that he still loves the club and wants to see them succeed, he sure as **** has a funny way of showing it.

The real problem with Gorden though, and he has confirmed this even though it is dead obvious, is that he doesn’t have any issues against the club, he has an issue with the people running it. Which if that was solely the case, there would be no problem.

The issue is with his best mates owning the Titans, Tallis will use his agenda to slag off the Broncos as a brand to get back at the people running the joint to prop up his mates business at the detriment of the Broncos.

What the fat, bald headed prick doesn’t realise though, is that by going down this route, he is actually hurting the club and not helping the cause. If he really loves the club, he would direct his anger towards White and Morris directly and demand change at the top and offer to help make the club great again if he really gave a shit about the joint.

But he wont help. He is a petty corporate sell out and always will be. This is a guy who still floats around said Brisbane city, still getting free shit from establishments and being paid for voicing an opinion half of us couldn’t even give a shit about anymore, living on the coattails of the very club that helped make him the player and has led him to reaping said rewards his status now bring him.

What was that saying about not biting the hand that feeds you?

It would be funny if a couple of Bali stories got leaked soon..
But in all honesty, the club swept it under the carpet very well. Good to see the negative publicity and scrutiny the club got put under due to Fifita's decision making really paid dived ends not even a year later.
I do remember Gwen praising the club to no end.
They both must have very short memories.
Edit: And for those who think that the club had to take responsibility and bail him out of a 3rd world countries cell, would you expect your manager or workplace would do similar for you..?

Glad the Broncos didn't match the Titans offer, we couldn't afford to. More power to them if Fafita brings the success. Ff we were sitting middle of the table showing some promise/improvement, then Fafita would have accepted the Broncos deal and stayed. That's what annoys me about the whole situation. You could have kept the man if we just showed some heart.

We saw both the Titans and Bulldogs, who don't have the talent we do, play with pride. Titans almost coming up with an upset. Broncos haven't shown enough of that this year. Just have a go.

Nova fm morning crew had Zorco (captain of the Brissy Lions) on last week and asked him how they got through the bad times and he said just to concentrate on one thing in a game and build on that. Win a quarter, win a half of footy, don't miss a tackle, aim up in defence. Something that they could look back on and gain some confidence and build on.

Well it’s now Monday morning and after shedding a few tears and feeling genuinely hurt about the state of the club over the weekend, I at least have gathered a bit more of a perspective about the Fifita situation.

It could be the defensive mechanism kicking in but the silver lining solely in terms of losing Fifita (not factoring in all the politics and bullshit that led to it and the possible domino effect) is that on reflection I seriously think Fifita lacks the character to be in the upper echelon of great forwards.

This is based on a few things this year alone that should have been a red flag which are only obvious now in hindsight:

- After the Bali fiasco, one of his first statements was ‘The club did what they had to do” there was no “I’m grateful for what they’ve done for me” there was no remorse or accepting of responsibility for putting himself in that situation no matter how minor the incident was

- During negotiations his mum was quoted as saying “David wants to go where he can play ‘comfortable’ footy” This was quoted pretty much the same week The Titans conveniently threw $1.25 million at her son. This is also despite the fact that a short few months ago she was claiming David loved and owed the Broncos and would do right by them”

- He had the nerve as a 20 year old forward who actually hadn’t won anything for the club, try to dictate a one year release to the Titans to bank over a million dollars and then come back when we can offer him more money. This is despite the fact that at $800k, he would still have been in the top 5 highest earning back rowers in the game

Look he obviously is a good player, has flair, athleticism and power and can make good defenders look silly, but that’s all he has to his game at this stage of his career. He has not shown any glimpse of any ball playing ability or a late offload and no doubt thinks he is all that because he just runs through blokes so probably doesn’t think he needs to add anything else to his game. If that is his attitude, I can see this being another David Taylor situation where he is a luxury forward.

If teams learn how to set up defensive structures to negate his game breaking ability and he doesn’t evolve his game, his career will nose dive. In saying all this I don’t think he could evolve his game in our system either at this current point in time so he is probably right to take the money but he is showing worrying signs that he will be one of those guys that has all the talent and not the smarts to become that next tier player.

And when he is getting paid more than anyone in the game at any point in its history, why would he think he is to add to his game? It’s only human nature.

In saying all of that though, it still hurts to lose someone of his X factor and as much of a shambles our club is in, one thing that could offset the pain would be to actually use the money wisely and acquire a player who would actually help make this team great again. I won’t hold my breath based on past results.

Fifita winning games off his own back last season only masked the real problems in the club and has led to him getting this over inflated contract to begin with.

The way Fifita spoke about it, I honestly believe that thick head of his believes he was entitled to be bailed out with no repercussions based on the games he helped win the club off his own back that season. It’s called the Latrell Mitchell syndrome.

I think the wrong people have gotten into his ear and have told him his shit doesn’t stink and that he runs the world based on a few games he has looked like the next best thing in. No coincidence he is sacking managers whilst trying to get as much coin as he can. John Bateman anyone?

There is a reason Gus Gould has openly spoken out about how irresponsible it is to give a kid like him that sort of contract at this stage of his career, despite Gus having no ulterior motive and is a notorious Broncos basher. So his opinion is worth a lot.

Hindsight will be a wonderful thing in 3 years time but something tells me this will end in tears for a lot of people except Fifita and his managers bank accounts.

This concerns me because I think it could be on the money.
The titans look like they are finally getting a decent roster together. It looks like it will be 70% done next season and completed by 2022 if they can just get 1 or 2 more quality players in the right positions, get brimson fit and on the field and maybe develop a couple of good juniors. They should also have the cash to chase anyone who they want then.
As for us we are still wallowing in shit and I have no idea when things will turn around.
If we don't get our act together soon I honestly feel the titans will go past us in the next couple of years.
