OFFICIAL Titans get their man with Fifita signing three-year deal

Glad the Broncos didn't match the Titans offer, we couldn't afford to. More power to them if Fafita brings the success. Ff we were sitting middle of the table showing some promise/improvement, then Fafita would have accepted the Broncos deal and stayed. That's what annoys me about the whole situation. You could have kept the man if we just showed some heart.

We saw both the Titans and Bulldogs, who don't have the talent we do, play with pride. Titans almost coming up with an upset. Broncos haven't shown enough of that this year. Just have a go.

Nova fm morning crew had Zorco (captain of the Brissy Lions) on last week and asked him how they got through the bad times and he said just to concentrate on one thing in a game and build on that. Win a quarter, win a half of footy, don't miss a tackle, aim up in defence. Something that they could look back on and gain some confidence and build on.
100%

They should barely even be training attack rig now. Almost all of our attention should be on defence. Even with 0 attack plan you can fluke a try or 2. The best attack will struggle to win when conceding 30+ points consistently.

I’d be happy with 1 out hit ups and kick to the corners on the 4th every set, and tell the players forget points here are you defensive KPIs. Celebrate only conceding 12 points or keeping a team scoreless for 30 minutes etc. Attack will come eventually.

After having a couple of days to sit on this in Communist Victoria comrades, my tune hasn't changed. Don't put Dave on the park for the rest of the year. I'm not bitter, more disappointed and sad as a fan to lose such a fantastic player, and from what I have seen a likable young fella. The kind of player you like to see at your club, but that ship has sailed.
I'm sick of the club behaving like a maternal grandfather (yes maternal) and worrying about everyone and how they react to the decisions we make. It's too much corporate/marketing rubbish. And it wreaks of desperation and not strength. Like a pathetic boyfriend that a demanding abusive girlfriend just plays with and walks all over knowing that the guy will never man up and she'll leave as soon as a more "attractive" proposition comes around. The irony is that attitude is not attractive at all. It shows weakness.
Looking at this realistically there is no way in the world that Dave could reject $500g a year extra. Anyone who is thinking he should put "loyalty" before that, is placing too much importance on that. Look at what has happened to Bird, where is he after his next contract runs out? His career is potentially shot depending on his next season. It's not much money after 30 years when you don't have any other skills.
But in all honesty, I expect Dave to regress if the Gold Coast doesn't get it together long term. Anyone knows that taking money over everything else brings with it other burdens. I've done it, I left a life behind a life of little money but a fantastic lifestyle, to take a job overseas (nothing like an extra $500g, but a lot for me at the time around $60g more a year) and those two years were miserable. Admittedly it wasn't just down the road, but what I dreamt of being attractive about OS turned out to be a bit of an illusion. It was a best-case scenario I had dreamt of. Those two years became a bit of a prison sentence I couldn't wait to get out of. I missed my friends, my lifestyle, even though the opportunity was great, and the only thing I had for motivation was the money. I'm glad I did it but if I had to do it again - no way.
Look how many SUPER players the Gold Coast has taken on over the years at overs. They rarely succeed and when they do, by the time their contract is up, the club has gone back to before they were signed because it's hard to get more players to head there when you're cap is already used up. I don't expect much to change. Why? Because the Gold Coast has next to no culture. There's no sense of belonging to something. There's too much sprawl without a focal point of identity other than the beaches. This is coming from someone who loves the beach and its lifestyle, but almost to a person most people I know will say the Gold Coast is "boring". It has no heartbeat. Would you rather represent something with a soul or something that is constantly trying to reinvent itself with a makeover?
Even Scotty Prince who was their Golden Child still has his heart with the Broncos. Coming back to the Broncos if only for one year, meant something huge to him. He loves the Broncos because it has a heartbeat. And for all the Broncos foley and failures this and the last few years, the club still has, soul.
Also, remember Justin Hodges. The guy left and couldn't wait to come back. We showed him no love while he was away, but he came back to be one of the greatest club men.
The thing that hurts most about this is that in our hearts, much like Hodgo, we feel like Fifita is a Bronco, because he is, so when he plays for the Titans it will not be his first love. He will not produce what he would have if he stated at the Broncos, but money talks and I can't fault him for a second, but I expect to see what we've seen before.

Niu saying he will follow Fifita as well. Wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of players start to leave. We are gonna be the new titans. Oh how far we have fallen.

Is that profile actually his Dad's? There is not one mention of Tesi and I have never seen any dad take so many gym selfies.

Yep I've changed my mind, I'm with ya.

He dogged us, we fixed and rehabbed his knee this year in good faith that he would be here next year, we also made a more than reasonable offer for a player of his age/ability/experience which would have seen him in the top 10% of earners at the club yet he still chose to take the easy way out with the desperadoes on the coast.

Don't release him but tell him to pack his stuff and send him home to his mum.

This is a pivotal moment for the club, use it........ pull together the squad and let them know Dave won't be playing again this year, then point to the door and tell them anybody who doesn't want to get the fark on board, or who wants the easy way out to walk and we'll arrange a release.

Champion teams win premierships, not a group of individuals looking to cash in.

Sorry matey you 'thinking' he'll put in is not enough to convince me.

The team will get all the confidence in the world as soon as the club manages to come to some sort of financial agreement and gets rid of the bungling Pieman and installs a proper coach.

Sit his money-grabbing arse down, and let him face his 'mates' who all agreed to take unders to stay together. I'd take the money too. But I'm damn sure I would have signed long before the figure got to where it was to stay with the mates I made a pact with.

Saving his sorry arse in Bali obviously counted for nothing either. I don't want that sort of character in my team.
Wasn't trying to convince you 'matey'. I hope he plays and I hope he fucking kills it.

This 100% especially the last paragraph. They all need to be called in and say we will arrange releases for whoever wants to go so you either stay or go but choose now. If you stay then enough of the bullshit, man up and cut the crap.

Cut to Friday night as the sharks ready to kick off to no one but Anthony Seibold in a headgear and ill fitting Broncos kit saying to himself “come on Seibsy, you don’t need them”.

Whats the crap? Tesi's dad making a facebook post? What else have the other plays done?

Don't play him again. Look to the future. Send a message.
In fact, tell him he isn't playing again at a team meeting where all the players are there, and tell them anyone can join him if they don't want to be here.
Shout it with anger and passion.
That's how you build culture.
Unfortunately Siebold just doesn't have the credibility to pull it off.
A Wayne or a Robbo could. Or the right new coach walking in, but not the clown who created the mess. The players would just look shocked for a couple of seconds, then chuckle and say "nice one Pies"

Complete hypothetical here, lets say Fifita returns this week and by some miracle we start winning games, boys enjoying themselves a bit more etc..

How long before he can no longer backflip?

I ask because he obviously battled with the decision so if we somehow began to improve and he saw how much he was going to miss this group he might flip.

As I said, very hypothetical and unrealistic, just a thought. Don't even know if I would be happy if it did happen since he already said he was going but still.

TBH I'd rather he leave than we matched that offer. I don't see how paying a young backrower over a million a season makes any sense whatsoever even though he is a good player. As for the fix for the rest of the broncos problems? Who knows but they better do something soon as they have just been awful since the 6 again rule became a thing so they better adapt.

That sounds like the Dogs game plan.
