Okay, theoretical, but this may be another contributing factor.
Broncos players constantly talked up as the next big thing. To the point where every week, a commentator will say "keep an eye on X Player, they'll be a superstar", all while the opposition's score ticks over. They're all the Next Big Thing. Who knows where the spruiking comes from, I tend to think it's player managers trying behind the scenes trying to get their players in the headlines for when Contract Time comes around. But whatever.
The point is, those players believe it themselves. They're the Next Big Thing. They think they've already made it and it's just a matter of waiting until next contract time. They don't put in the extra efforts. They just rely on their talents.
Older players meanwhile know what it takes. Even if they never even became Big, they know the effort that has to go in. They tell the young kids to pull their heads in.
Young players won't take that shit. Old players are passed it and sucking the money out of the cap, money these Young Superstars deserve because the media say they're definitely going to be A Big Deal.
Come post game, another big loss. Young players blame the broken old has-beens. They say the right things, that everyone needs to do better, but privately believe that it's not their fault they're losing. They only dropped one ball or let that one try in. It's bevause the rest of the team sucks. They're a superstar, they deserve better. So you end up with these kids that think they deserve the money and the success, who ring up Politis because they're sick of playing for a shit team. All the while, the team is shit because individually they don't think they're part of the problem.

I have no doubt this is a big part of the whole culture crisis the club is going through, and the most damaging aspect that Seibs has to deal with (and hasn't been capable of). He needs to take a leaf out of Bellamy's book and smash a few heads in, no matter whose names they belong to...

Thats a cop out, Pat Carrigan is 22 and doesnt get involved in lurid videos or getting caught out during a pandemic where he shouldnt be. Stop making excuses for these fools. He knows right from wrong. He's not a child.

On this occasion, i'm spot on. Carrigan carries himself in an exemplary fashion. Conducts himself the way every player at this club should.

When ego drives a culture, as you describe above, one consequence is you end up with culture of blame rather than one grounded in accountability. It's myopic. Accountability on the other hand is not the same thing as blame or punishment. To be accountable means to take responsibility for results, good or bad. It means finding answers to problems and applying lessons learned in order to improve. A culture of blame focuses attention and attitude on the small picture, and evading accountability for one's own shortcomings by blaming someone else. It's the easy way out. It protects ego.
Blame too often assumes that people, not the systems they operate in, are the problem. Blame is focused on the past and on punishing the offender. The thinking behind assigning blame is that identifying the offender and punishing them will correct the poor behaviour. Wrong. The reality is that the only thing people learn from being blamed is to become better at hiding their mistakes, and blaming someone else for them. It's corrosive, it's divisive, it becomes personal. Nobody ends up caring about anything but themselves.
Being accountable is instead constructive because it focuses on the systems which create problems, on the future, future solutions. What our leaders, board, coach and players fail to realize is that if they aren’t managing their culture, their culture is managing them. So the question becomes: is your culture working for you, or against you?
No wonder we have a club divided. It is a failure of leadership with the predictable results as we are seeing.

The system is clearly broken and is bring made worse by people who don’t know how to fix it because while they may or may not have caused it, they have largely contributed to making it worse.

I think sadly that because we no longer have any players left who really know what a special and significant thing it is to be a Bronco, it's probably now more important than ever that we look for club management, a Coach, and Coaching support staff who all do know it and can impart it back onto the next generation of players before the current generation really do burn the joint down.

The "people" are the problem so they can't see outside their bubble. The only way change is possible to start from the top down, with a new leadership.But we know that. The club doesn't. Yet. Part of the problem also is that brilliant individuals won't fix a culture based on poor systems. The issue is as you say, it's about being a Brisbane Bronco, not a highly paid star with an ego that needs constant massaging

Because he puts the team first and not his ego. He puts the club, the team first, not himself. Irrespective of his age, he is for mine our long term captain, and will be one of our best as he gains experience, and, the hardest part of all, respect from his team mates who ought to focus on the team instead of bruised egos, contracts/dollars and what the club can do for them, rather than what they can do for their team and their club (paraphrasing JFK).
