2020 Origin Discussion

Updated what I expect the NSW 17 to be with the recent droppings:

1. Tedesco
2. Addo-Carr
3. Wighton
4. Lomax
5. Cotric
6. Keary
7. Cleary
8. Haas
9. Cook
10. Saifiti
11. Cordner (c)
12. Frizell
13. Trbojevic

14. Papenhuyzen
15. A.Crichton
16. Murray
17. Paulo / RCG

QLD could have had a pretty good chance if we were full strength too.

It's certainly possible. By my calculations it'll be about 5.5 weeks between his surgery and game 1.

Dylan Brown just returned in 5 weeks and DCE returned in 6 weeks last year from the same surgery.

Unfortunately he's someone who relies HEAVILY on his footwork, so I doubt he'll even be at 75% for game 1. Not sure it's even worth the risk.

He was playing at less than that even when he was fit.

Ponga has done his shoulder. 2020 can EAD

NSW not picking Klemmer is hilarious. Should be first forward picked for them.

Brimson has been in better form anyway.

Not saying he is ready but being able to blood a player when they finished the season on a high is great.

Given QLD is going to lose anyway I think Green would have made far more sense as interim coach for this series
It brings back lots of memories when NSW supporters say we can't win, apologies if your not a NSW supporter by the way, you have just inspired me to open a beer and put on Queenslands 95 series 3-0 win, Fat Phils silence was deafening if I remember, when he was asked about his star studded sides loss to an apparently piss poor Queensland side, this will be a tight series in my opinion, there will be nothing wrong with our forward pack, plus we have the Australian halves combination, Bennett will ensure we play to where our strengths lie and minimise NSW's attempt to exploit any perceived weakness in our side, respect your opinion though TTK

hopefully they change the eligibility rules asap, I think U16 playing in the state is fine, still well below the professional stage and tier 1 nation players brought up in Australia should have a shot.

For Qld that would help massively, we could have Tamoulolo, Brandon Smith, Benji Marshall, Herbie Farnworth, Jahrome Hughes etc.

A) they're not going to change the eligibility rules any time soon ... they changed them mainly due to the GI situation

B) even if they did change eligibility rules, being available for Australia will still be a non-negotiable requirement... ruling out every one of those players you mentioned

I'm not sure on that, most of the big wigs in the game think the Australia eligibility including landys think it's a bad limitation for game growth.

I mean think about it, state of origin is the peak of Rugby league to say under the rules it's essentially a try out for the Australian test team sells it short considering it is consistently highest rating TV event in Australia every year eclipsing AFL and NRL grand finals.

Vlandys is on score saying he doesn’t agree with the Australia eligibility limitation. He hasn’t said whether he will change it or not though.

Walker, Cook, Murray, Cotric and Wighton added to Blues squad from Rabbits and Raiders.
That leaves 7 spots for Penrith and Storm players. Of the two sides remaining - Cleary, Finucane, Tamou, Yeo, Papynhouzen, Martin and JAC seem the likely options.

Looks at this point as if Gutherson will be playing left centre which is a great sign for QLD (I think he will be favoured over Lomax and not sure S Crichton gets in over the guys named above).

Logic would follow that either Walker or McInnes plays the utility role and one of RCG/Paulo/Crichton gets the last bench spot.

1. Tedesco
2. Tupou
3. Wighton
4.
5. JAC
6. Keary
7. Cleary
8. Haas
9. Cook
10. D Saifiti
11. Cordner (c)
12. Frizzell
13. Murray

14.
15. J Trbojevic
16. Finucane
17.
