QLD Squad 2020

Apparently selector lockyer says holmes shouldnt be picked...not to change a winning team etc.......i doubt wayne and mal will take much notice
I saw that in the post game, but I'm pretty sure he was about to say something along the lines of "you've got Holmes who likely comes into the team", but he was cut off by Bracey or whoever he is that said "after a win like that it'd be hard to change the team"... so Lockyer reverted to the company line and dead batted with something like "if there's no injuries you probably stick to the same team"

It's obvious to everyone that Holmes comes in as a minimum... he's a weapon on the wing. Lockyer just played it safe after being cut off

If QLD had another decent 5/8th, with AJ and Ponga injured I'd put Munster at fullback and Holmes on the left wing. I dunno if Hunt and DCE would combine well.
I don't mind that alternative.

Munster is an excellent fullback and would allow him to chime in on both sides of the field. Felt his first half was poor, because he limited himself to the left side, but at fullback he has full freedom to go where he likes.

Also allows Grant to come onto the bench, where he can play the same role as Bhunt or Friend can play that role as a tackle bot.

I recall Tigers played a game which utilised Grant in the same ball playing lock role as Hunt and he turned the game... it was when Liddle was relieving off the bench, but Tigers lost momentum and threw Grant back on to have something like Benji, Doueihi, Liddle, Reynolds/Brooks and Grant all on the field at the same time.

Allows Val to be on the wing, where we know he excels... I think he'd do fine at fullback as well, but I still worry about his hands. Munster's hands not so much.

Hunt & DCE as a halves pairing scares me though. Munster took control of the kicking game in the second half last night and really turned the game by constantly locking them into the corner of the field. We lose that with Bhunt at 6, because he's not left footed and makes it harder. Munster could still chime in and kick down that side of the field, but might be a lot to start asking of him.

So basically
1. Munster
2. Val
6. BHunt
7. DCE
9. Friend
14. Harry

OR

1. Val
2. Sami
6. Munster
7. DCE
9. Friend
14. BHunt

Think I'm leaning towards option 1, but would require a lot more work from Munster to be effective

Thanks...i didnt see it but read it on fox👍

Damn that sucks, he had a great debut.

Cam Murray out for the series too. It’d be crazy if Cordner plays.

1. Munster
2. Holmes
3. B. Lee
4. Gag
5. Coates
6. Hunt
7. DCE
8. Arrow
9. Friend
10. Welch
11. Kafusi
12. Capewell
13. Tino

14. Grant
15. Collins
16. Sua
17. Papali

Think Munster is sharper then Holmes atm and Holmes has proved himself on the wing before in origin and would probably put him on ado cars wing as he is a solid wing defender.

For me Hess was the only disappointing player so id replace him with Capewell who had a good game at centre but I think swap him with Hess and that edges defence will be way more solid.

Hunt to 6 could be risky but could come off and he has a blinder, i think if he plays a similar way to he did in game 1 that will work fine, they will essentially be like NSW with 3 playmakers on the field only difference is all 3 of ours go well in those other positions.

I have papali on the bench because even though he had a good game i think we should use him like Ricky did for the raiders, seem to be a lot more effective and also arrow won us the momentum in the second half, such a good game from him.

Finally got harry in there, cause everyone wants to see the bloke play so do i to be fair, but could bring him on for a forward around half time and get him into 9 and have friend play the Cameron Mcinnes roll as he is such a good tackler in the middle

I think they will just put Holmes at fullback and leave the rest of the back line the same to try and build some combinations.

Oh ye of little faith. Our team has just the right amount of mediocrity. Add a dollop of Queenslander and viola, SOO legends are made.
Had a few bucks on them too. Qld were paying 4.20 for a 1-12 win. I wasn't overly surprised to be honest. Always thought QLD was a chance although 10 nil looked shaky.

If Holmes is on the wing, I'm assuming it probably means Allen is going to debut.

Sounds like Allan on the wing, Munster to play, Welch to start, Lui and Grant on the bench.

Sami, Hunt and Fotuaika out.

Maybe a bit of Wayne mind games here. You’d think B Lee will play at centre with Capewell moving to bench or dropping out. Perhaps an Allen and Holmes swap too.

Expected side if everyone is fit according to a couple of journalists -

Fullback - Allan
Left edge - Holmes & Gagai
Right edge - Brenko & Coates
Halves - Munster & DCE
Hooker - Friend
Front row - Welch & Papalii
Second row - Capewell, Kaufusi & Tino
Bench - Grant, Su'A, Arrow & Collins

It's not great, but there's not much you can do with the injuries.
And before people start mentioning Carrigan, who do you drop for him? Collins has pretty much cemented his spot as he's been arguably QLD's best player over the 2 games. Papalii has been disappointing, but hopefully he finally delivers like he has at club level.

That is about as good as you can do with what's available sans @Wolfie and his love on for Carrymeagain. A bit of a shame for Su'A to be benched too, he was really good in game 2.

Why are we changing our right edge?
It’s the the only side we have the advantage with over the Blues.

Watch NSW lose its collective shit if QLD win the decider in front of a sold out Lang Park. We will never hear the end of it.
