QLD Squad 2020

We also need Holmes for goal kicking.

I think Sami knows he was only there because Holmes was out.

Hess was disappointing... looked slower than everyone else on the field. I think Sua starts over him.

Not really sure who comes in for him though... he could drop back to the bench and act as a rampaging middle or edge forward in short bursts.

Maybe Brenko comes into center and Capewell to bench as utility / back row cover.

Maybe Mo comes onto the bench, but that creates a big bench (Collins, Arrow and Mo) with a lack of back row cover... (Tino could cover back row I guess).

Anyone want to have a guess at what changes we might expect for Queensland for Game 2?

The only player who really didn't have a good night was probably Hess, so his demotion would be interesting depending on how it played out.

I think Holmes would be very likely to return, perhaps at Centre pushing Capewell to the Back Row or Bench to replace Hess if Su'a gets a starting spot. Either that or pushing one of the Wingers out of the side which is probably a little unlucky for them but Holmes is a big touch of class and attacking threat and he'll be very hard to leave out.

I had Corey Allan making my Game 1 team before he was suspended, probably on the Wing, but I think with the form of the two Wingers from Game 1 and the need to find Holmes a spot that Allan will probably miss out on selection now.

Holmes in for Sami, that's the only change that should be made in the backline. I still don't like Gagai at centre, but he's a better option then Lee.

I would keep Capewell at centre. He performed well there. Bring in another of the forwards to replace Hess.

I would drop Hess and move Tino to the edge and start Arrow at lock. We looked much better when Arrow was out there and NSW will come out breathing fire next week. Mo or Carrigan to the bench. Neither one would let us down.

How does bringing in new players even worm with the bubble? Are they all on standby somewhere?

Is Holmes sitting around on the off chance he gets picked?

I think he's with the team in the bubble already. He was in the sheds after the game.

I'd expect Holmes to come in at Fullback and the rest of the side to remain the same with that news, Capewell is expected to be right to play.

1. Holmes
2. Sami
3. Capewell
4. Gagai
5. Coates
6. Munster
7. Cherry-Evans (c)
8. Papalii
9. Friend
10. Welch
11. Hess
12. Kaufusi
13. Fa'asuamaleaui

14. Hunt
15. Collins
16. Arrow
17. Su'A

That is a huge loss, he was excellent last night, totally looked like he belonged and added such a spark from the back. Stopped two tries and scored a great one as well.

Apparently selector lockyer says holmes shouldnt be picked...not to change a winning team etc.......i doubt wayne and mal will take much notice

I really do not like to see players out of position. Capewell for mine belongs in the back row for Hess, with Holmes at the back and Lee in the centres, the original choice there. NSW will be a totally different team next week, attitude wise at least and, with a suss groin, Capewell's lateral defence and overall lack of speed is a worry.

I'd also like to see Grant on the bench with Hunt in for Friend

I thought Friend played his role well. I liked having Hunt sniffing around as a playmaker, if anything I’d drop DCE for Hunt but hopefully Daley plays better next week. Our attack looked completely lost until Hunt came on and it slowly cleaned up.

The whole team looked screwed until the 2nd half. DCE won't get dropped, nor will Munster. I just don't see Friend as competitive at origin level. For mine, Jake just doesn't threaten the line at all. He is too slow - contrast him to Cook to see the difference. Defensively he is good but next week, we really will need some threats to their line in the middle. Hunt + Grant is a great hooker rotation.

Oh I agree DCE won’t get dropped, and I don’t think he should either. I just think last night Hunt outplayed him in his own role.

Cook might be faster than Friend but Friend was better of the two hookers. Cook was terrible, and scored one of the most undeserving arsey tries you’ll see.

Agree with you. Thing is, NSW were rubbish the whole game until Walker came on. I reckon he will get a lot more game time next week, and I expect to see an entirely different NSW side as well. In fact, my sad prediction is that they will thump us. It will be a big wake up call, and game 3 will decide it. NSW have just too much talent to repeat their mind numbing incompetence (until Walker came on).

We need genuine strike power from our hooker and for mine, Friend just doesn't offer that.

If QLD had another decent 5/8th, with AJ and Ponga injured I'd put Munster at fullback and Holmes on the left wing. I dunno if Hunt and DCE would combine well.

Interesting alternative this. I just wonder though if Munster is 100% fit. He looked slow out there. If he was 100%, and as I understand he really likes playing at the back, it could work. I also think Hunt and DCE would work well together, with Hunt at 5/8. So for mine a good alternative, if Munster is fully fit which I don't think he is.

Having said that, I like Holmes's running game at the back. My preference is to have Holmes at FB. For mine, he offers more there than on the wing.
