Anthony Seibold is no longer our coach

There's an article on Fox Sports now where Joe Ofahengaue weighs in on last season. Biggest surprise for me is that Seibs had a gameplan for every 10 metre section of the field lmao (although the journo said that, not Joe)
It confirms what I was alluding to really. They just couldn't get to grips with his methods.

“Things got really bad and I went away from a lot of things I knew I was good at. I just wasn’t buying into my footy and wasn’t playing to my potential. “I was starting in Origin the year before that. I think I just let the losses really affect me.“Things got really bad and I went away from a lot of things I knew I was good at. I just wasn’t buying into my footy and wasn’t playing to my potential. “I was starting in Origin the year before that. I think I just let the losses really affect me.

“And that’s not really me. But if you ask any of my teammates, I’m usually the happiest guy in the club. “I’m the one who is trying to get the boys around me going and get the energy up. “Yeah, last year was just a really, really bad one for me and the club.”“And that’s not really me. But if you ask any of my teammates, I’m usually the happiest guy in the club. “I’m the one who is trying to get the boys around me going and get the energy up. “Yeah, last year was just a really, really bad one for me and the club.”

“We were fit, bro,” he counters. “We just weren’t winning, you know? “And when you’re when you’re losing your players lose belief in your coach, it’s hard to get the team to click because everyone’s minds are in different places. “You know, some boys maybe believed in the coach. Some boys didn’t, that’s what the Broncos were last year.“

Did Ofahengaue believe in Seibold? “At stages, and I’m not going to badmouth Seibs. I think he was a great guy,” he says. “I think his coaching strategies were nowhere near what we needed last year.

“Us players as well, we were at fault as well, because we weren’t honest [with Seibold] sometimes. He’d say we need to do this? And as players we just agreed. “So we played a big part in that as well. It wasn’t just a coach like, I’m not going to fault Seibs. It was on all of us as a club. “You know, we lost belief in our processes, belief in each other our beliefs, and our teammates and belief in our coach.

“All in one, bro, no one really believed us. And that’s what it showed, you know, that’s not the Broncos spirit. Another criticism was how Seibold had a gamelan for every 10m section of the field like an NFL-style playbook.

Sometimes we were just too structured and sometimes some players would get the s**ts and say we don’t want to run that play, or they just didn’t get a match style of footy,” he says. “But that’s all in the past. “I wish Seibs all the best. And I was pretty sad when he was telling us he got fired, it’s a man losing his job.”

No wonder the poor fuckers were clueless, add to thst players shuffling for injuries and needing to learn the 10 different gamplans for those different positions. **** as a player you'd just wanna jab the **** in the throat.

Not just players who want to do that.

Is it worrying that I didn’t think anything was wrong when the first 2 paragraphs were repeats of themselves and that Joe was simply repeating himself, verbatim?

Regardless of his dodgy coaching, Seibolds biggest issue as coach of the Broncos was Wayne Bennett. He couldnt handle following him and being in his shadow. He cracked under pressure even before he got the job at the mere mention of Bennett. When he got here, he tried to wipe any trace of him from the training ground. Utter stupidity on his part when you also had a playing group extremely loyal to Wayne and didnt like the way he was punted.

For a self-professed genius, that was the stupidest thing anyone could have done in his position.

True and that point has been well covered.

But it's also true that the Broncos were not improving under Wayne and he didn't seem to have the answers and I don't think another year would have fixed things or set the course for whoever followed him necessarily. But maybe the final year factor might have been enough, I don't know.

I still maintain that there being a buffer between Wayne and Kevvie, is the best thing for Kevvie's long term future as Broncos coach. the fact that Seibs was so abysmal, is even better for Kevvie

Wayne should have got his last year. I do agree we weren't improving, but it did way more harm than good by not giving him his final 12 months. He basically built the football side of this club and should have been allowed to go out on his terms imo.

People bag him, but when he came back he saw the issues. He identified we weren't doing so well recruiting young blokes, that improved. He identified we need to short term signings like Benji and Blair to help fix up some issues we had and it did work for us. I think the whole circus with him leaving crippled the Broncos.

Self-praise is no recommendation (and never has been). He was, currently is and always will be a FIGJAM.

I’m not sure he’s as smart as he thinks he is, but honestly, plenty of intellectually bright people really struggle to interact with others and read a room correctly.

The whole point of moving on Wayne was sound ONLY if the end game was to get Bellamy. Whilst Bellamy was on the table and we had stagnated under Bennett the club would have been foolish not to pursue Bellamy. Even Wayne himself acknowledged that Bellamy would be a great fit and I don’t get the impression he was just playing nice with the media when he said it either.

Where it all went to shit though was that once we screwed the pooch with Bellamy, we shouldn’t ever have persisted with punting Bennett and just seeing what we could do next to replace him. How anyone came to that conclusion simply beggars belief. The circus that was allowed to unfold around Walters, JD, Seibold, the botched interview process etc was just degrading to the club.

It was foolish in the extreme and the ego involved from White to persist with punting Bennett, who was clearly trying to work with the club on a succession plan, likely because White became insecure himself, was disgracefully weak from the CEO of the company and is now his legacy to the Broncos, perhaps the greatest damage anyone has done to the Broncos in recent years.

Of course it did. And was always going to, even if it wasn't handled like the complete shit show it ended up being.

We were in the process of evening up our forwards/backs - having been lacking a bit in big forwards, which has now gone the other way, great pack, awful backline. Probably he would have handled that better.

But I think he set us back by not finding an experienced half to partner Milf after it became apparent Hunt wasn't up to it. Management screwed up by giving him too much money but Wayne tried to push him into a role he wasn't suited for.

I think this is a fair post. I agree with you (in hindsight) that they should have stuck with Wayne's succession plan.

We will never know what the inner machinations were, but I have a feeling for a while that Morris was pulling the strings to get rid of Bennett.

The plan I think was always Ash Taylor to play alongside Milford. When that didn't happen, there wasn't really anything out there who would have realistically made us any better. I guess Pearce would have been an option, but Wayne rightly imo chose not to bring that cockwomble to the club.
