Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

People simply need to make a choice ... do they want us to keep every young talented kid coming off the production line or do they want us to look outside for recruitment... because at a club like out the has a long production line, it's one or the other.

BTW, if it's the former, be ready for more seasons like 2020, because keeping every talented kid coming through the ranks was part of the reason we got the spoon last year. our team would have handled seibs/injuries/rule changes better if they were actually out of puberty.

Shouldn't good recruitment be both? You develop your talent and then if you have to go outside, to complement that talent you identity the player at another club you need.

Developing kids into NRL players is stupid when there's a salary cap in place which allows for other clubs to just sit back and pick who they want. It doesn't help that we seem to always be the focus of clubs making insane 'kamikaze' signings that secures a player, but ruins their long term prospects, and our short term plans, in the process (Hunt, Fifita, and Taylor being the notable examples).

EDIT: The dogs tried to do the same thing with Carrigan when they offered him a 3 year million dollar deal before he really ever showed anything in the NRL, so you can add them to the list. This Piakura thing isn't new for them.

I understand what you're referring to Foordy. Every now and then you see these team lists comprised of players who left the club and 9/10 the club made the right choice. I don't see it as a negative if juniors go onto play first grade for other clubs, if anything it's a great advertisement for the pathways system.

While it's important to keep the best players around, there are times where you have to make tough decisions and lose a player you wish to keep.

DOGS LEAD PACK FOR RISING NRL STAR

The Bulldogs still appear in the box seat to sign one of the NRL’s best emerging talents in backrower Brendan Piakura. After a couple of false starts, the Brisbane Broncos rookie is believed to be headed to Sydney this weekend for a guided tour of Canterbury-Bankstown’s Belmore facility. Good judges reason Piakura is the best up-and-coming backrower in the game. The teenager had interest from nine NRL clubs but has narrowed it down to his existing club the Broncos or the Bulldogs. The Gold Coast are also an outside chance.
I’m sure we can keep him. Just get our famous old boy Gordy to cold call him and tell him that he’ll personally take him under his wing. Bound to work.

Why is complaining about how things are but still being here any less of a fan than someone who just takes the bad and feels like, oh well they tried their best though they sucked at everything any better?

I never get this kind of mindset, because someone is negative about a current situation means they can't 'take the bad'. I (and others who feel negative about where the club is) am still here aren't I?
There's complaining and then there's just negativity , people (like yourself) need to move on. People constantly calling us a rabble even when they are trying to improve, and jump on every negative article towards us and call us a basket-case. Positivity is the only way out for the club, the players and us as fans , it won't happen overnight (like some expect) but it looks like we're going in the right direction.
Being a fan means ride the highs and lows with the team, yeah its ok to complain but you've (and others)been doing it for awhile now.

That's 12 players off contract, Bird and Offa should be off our books too next year.

Staggs/Oates/Turpin PO's

I'm expecting Oates to take his PO because he sucks, Staggs won't, Turpin is hard to tell.
Only 3 players signed for 2023 (if Lodge takes his PO which he will if the reported numbers are true)

So Kev has the chance to flush half the squad within 12 months, and practically the entire team within 24 months.

It's not a bad spot to start from for a new coach if the club actually recruits and retains intelligently.

My one fear is if the NRL adds another Brisbane team next year, and even worse if they add a 2nd team elsewhere. All of sudden we need to sign 10 decent players to field a team in 22 and we will be competing for signatures against 2 clubs who require 70 players between them, and who will be given cap exemptions to get their team off the ground a la the Titans foundation team.

funny that the NRL have an incomplete list for us ... their are only 26 players on that senior squad list and we need 28 registered by 1st march
Gamble?

We have so much cash available for next few years. Yet we dont have a CEO to bargain these deals. Very Frustrating.
We have an acting CEO in place. It’s not as if there is no-one actually at the helm... What we don’t yet have is our permanent chosen one...

I appreciate that but I do feel quite a few give (sometimes) good recommendations or at least some solutions and then they either get insulted or told their ideas won't work for non-explained reasons (I don't mind if legit reasons are given, this is what I want to see).

I am not saying this is you either, because even though I at times don't agree with what you say, you do at least generally explain yourself.

I am happy to be disagreed with, even disproved because it means good discussion is happening.
Cheers and you're spot on. Sometimes solutions are offered and yes, Ming the Merciless sometimes drops on them from a great height. Getting shot down isn't always a bad thing because the message might be valid but the delivery, painful. I don't mind being wrong and it's happened on here more than once.

What does grind my gears a bit is any poster who only has one super power, that is, the ability to find fault!

Me and others like me get annoyed when our legitimate complaints get shot down or called stupid etc with absolutely nothing coming back the other way aside from schoolyard insults.

Also, I believe in trying to be balanced (even though certainly not always successful to be fair) and if I see something worth commending, I commend it. I also point out what I would like to see the club do and if they do something different but I can see merit in it, I will say that.

Yes, I tend to be negative at times as do others but in fairness to us (me), it isn't all negativity. What often happens though is that I or someone like me post something that is negative and legitimate and then we got shot down but not with reasons, just with insults and stupidity and so of course it gets exacerbated. And no, I'm not going to blindly be positive about something that isn't worth being positive about - ala White, our recruitment and retention team / policy, lack of future planning, giving up on the field, getting smashed and the cherry on top of everything - player options. These are the things I and ones like me complain about. Other things I and people like me try to be positive / realistic about. What is wrong with that?

Also, as a side note, thank you for you well thought out and legitimately valid discussion points, it is so much more enjoyable talking like this.

I dont think its surprising people are a bit negative and cynical given whats gone on in the last couple of years.

Remember how negative this place was when we signed Bennett and improved dramatically? The Broncos actually deserve this negativity. Congrats on trying to improve, but this situation should have been avoided entirely and they have to earn the faith back.

They also have to stop the players from committing crimes and releasing statements because that shit got embarrassing a long time ago.
