Because we are incompetent.
Didn't mommy tell you " if you don't have anything nice to say , don't say anything at all "
If not, there is a hot tip for you

To be fair, 'mommy' was probably a fan throughout the heady days of the past. She has probably changed her tune during the dark times of recent years.

If we lose paikura, i would go for jack howarth who is at the storm. Good with ball in hand but he looks to hit like a sledge hammer.

He could be to our current halves what tunza was to locky, essentially a body guard.

Storm don't lose guys the kids they want to keep.

I never listened to her. Echo chambers or circle jerks aren’t really my thing.

People simply need to make a choice ... do they want us to keep every young talented kid coming off the production line or do they want us to look outside for recruitment... because at a club like out the has a long production line, it's one or the other.

BTW, if it's the former, be ready for more seasons like 2020, because keeping every talented kid coming through the ranks was part of the reason we got the spoon last year. our team would have handled seibs/injuries/rule changes better if they were actually out of puberty.

Well tell mommy "that's sport" . If you can't take the bad with the good, then maybe you shouldn't follow it.

Why is complaining about how things are but still being here any less of a fan than someone who just takes the bad and feels like, oh well they tried their best though they sucked at everything any better?

I never get this kind of mindset, because someone is negative about a current situation means they can't 'take the bad'. I (and others who feel negative about where the club is) am still here aren't I?

In regards to this, for me it would probably be:
- halfback (in the last 5yr or so we've let ATay, Boyd and Walker go... so we must be running out of "next Cooper Cronks")
- fullback (haven't had a decent fullback since Khunt)
- hooker (Turps looks a stop gap, but Paix appears miles off and may want to be a half anyway)
- second rower (we were fine 2yrs ago with Sua and Fifita, but this has become an absolute priority)
- steady stream of outside backs (wingers centres, etc. but we dont need to hang onto every kid if we find a good one)

Lower priority
- Prop/middle (the position is heavily stacked at the moment where good prospects in Fleg and Bullemor look likely to miss out)
- five/eight (a running half is dime a dozen, no need to break the bank... could be someone that might transition to a different position 2nd row (ala Matterson, Wade Graham, etc.) or centre... left foot kicker would be handy as well)
- Right centres (Staggs, Niu, Coates, etc. half the kids we have now appear to be right centres more than anything)

It appears they have identified which ones they want to keep, but the issue is they haven't locked them up yet, which is what pisses people off... Dearden, Piakura (by necessity), Coates/Staggs/Niu (do we need them all??), Walsh

No apparent hooker unless someone special is coming through??

This isn't the point and I am fairly sure you know it. Of course there are some fans who want to keep everybody but isn't the job of the actual employed guys at the club, you know the Peter Nolan types, to actually identify the best ones and lock them up?

So yay, we've locked up Herbie, Flegs and Bully but should these kids be priorities over having already locked up Fifita, Staggs, Coates and Walsh?

You can't keep everyone, no one has debated that (at least no one who legitimately wants to discuss club issues) but you should be aiming to keep the BEST ones coming through and that isn't a Lodge or Flegs on massive overs (reportedly).

Yes, Fifita went to the highest bidder which is usually the favourite retort to an issue no one has argued) but why was he available? Why did the Broncos need to have '20+' meetings with him? Why wasn't he given a deadline for contract extension? Why haven't Staggs, Dearden, etc been given deadlines to re-sign?

I mean just recently, the Panthers, Knights and Storm have all re-signed gun kids / established stars on long-term contracts that are early in the season and without news 18 other clubs are chasing them and seeing them touring other club facilities.

To sum up, all we are asking for is better planning and execution on the recruitment / retention front. You still haven't proven how the club has shown long-term planning by the way.

No one ever minds fair criticism but it's so so easy to tell the world what's WRONG with a situation but if the complainant doesn't have a solution then they should be moderate in their condemnation.

Most of us can point to that which we dislike but few of us have solutions. Not saying this describes you.

When our rec/retent starts working we won’t have to.

I appreciate that but I do feel quite a few give (sometimes) good recommendations or at least some solutions and then they either get insulted or told their ideas won't work for non-explained reasons (I don't mind if legit reasons are given, this is what I want to see).

I am not saying this is you either, because even though I at times don't agree with what you say, you do at least generally explain yourself.

I am happy to be disagreed with, even disproved because it means good discussion is happening.

Why is it one or the other? Why not a well thought out plan that uses both approaches as necessary?

I’m happy for the club to chose 3 of the most important rookies to hold onto and fill the rest of the holes with experienced and intelligent import options.

The club is, at the time of this post, doing neither.
