Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

I see Gareth Widdop has been reportedly shopped to the Broncos. Widdop can play unlike Moses Mbye but there was a reason no NRL team would take him last offseason. He has stuffed too many teams around he requested a release from his Dragons contract for sentimental reasons. And he is now doing the same with Warrington. I think his reason may be genuine this time with his kids being back in Australia. But If I was the Broncos I would still be weary.
I’d be weary of those shoulders also.

Honestly looks like with the Milford money and the boosts to contracts of players we already have we realistically only have the money to fill one spine position.

I think ATM it would have to go to FB more then a half, because there is no halves available that really improve us.

I liked the idea of Reynolds but hearing how he has been on light duties in training for the past few seasons just makes it look like a totally bad idea that will backfire.

I like the idea but no chance Staines leaves Penrith, let alone for us.
Disagree, from what I've heard he is on minimum wage, has 2 people infront of him for his desired position at Penrith, Also his Family is from Forbes not Sydney so he wouldn't have a big staying point to stay there, It's realistic completely.

You would think bird and McCullough money would buy you a marquee player and leave plenty of change

Both are still contracted to us though, and it's highly likely Dragons are not paying both wages in full or even 3/5ths

It's easy to look at it and say its free money, but our team is full of young players with contracts expiring that will need top ups as well.

A team full of young players that just won the spoon should have some room to make some moves but somehow we don’t.

Staines could be an option without having to go all out on a marquee player (we really need some marquees players but they aren’t available and we don’t have the $$$).

It doesn't help when we pay Australian Rep level money for bench props though.

Remember we still got to resign: Paikura, Staggs and Dearden all of which will be on much more money then they are already and are players we definitely need.

Gee 2023 is when Kevvie wants to have some spare cash handy and it will coincide with us having fully cleared all the deadwood part payments we're making to other clubs too.

Just look at the spine players who will be available.

It may also coincide with the new Brisbane team coming in though... make no mistake about it, they will be getting every tiny bit of "luck/leeway/just good management" they can have with Peter "I'm not a creep I just can't buy a suit that fits and wear literal grease in my combover" vlandys in charge

Wow we! rugby league is on the decline. Can we start raiding rugby? Maybe soccer....

Agreed. Titans did reportedly. Tell Dearden, publicly if necessary, he has til ANZAC day to sign a 2 year contract on good money for a half. If not, in the spirit of that day, we’ll go and look for someone who has some real ticker...
Tell him the story of Ashley Taylor. The bright-eyed, world is my oyster fella, who peddled his bicycle down the road for fame and fortune. What a 7th wonder of the world he is.

He just re-signed and he’s with all his mates at a side that just made the grand final and is undefeated to the reigning wooden-spooners, a team that’s 1-3

Yes I could make some lists but my fear is the Broncos' management will look at all those players and go, hey that Croft bloke and Turpin look stand outs, we don't even know who the others are.

Also, now Friend is officially retired, I fully expect B.Smith to be at the Roosters next year.

The guy who is currently at a potential top 8 side on the way up compared to the wooden spooners? I'm not sure he'd be too worried he made the wrong decision to be honest.

No he wouldn't, but I wonder, more importantly what Mal thinks. At least our highest paid player hasn't had to take a "mental heath break "to deal with the stresses of being a marque signing. That was my point after all, signing for big money puts big stress on you, and the grass is not always greener. I wonder how many sick days Lockyer had...
