I don’t think it’s a bad signing. Especially if Turpin has anytime off the is season.

My bigger concern is the increasing noise that Dearden is going to cows, Reynolds to the Sharks, Staggs to the titans. I have grave concerns for our halves again next season.

We desperately needed a backup 9. I think Levi is shit but it would be better than 80 minutes of Paix or something. I'd be putting him on the bench from now for 10 minutes before and after halftime to give Turpin a rest.

Why do you think the signing has any effect on Dearden? You're the second person to mention it, so am I missing something?

Just a gut feeling the way things are playing out.
1) Paix could have filled this role.
2)Dearden could also fill this role if Milf was to come back.
3)We can get a signing like this, but cant seem to get Deardens signature.
4)Levi would most likely stick around next year, he wouldnt come in under 300k a full season i would think, normally you would wait to see what is left from Dearden to patch up the hooker spot. Our cap is claimed to be tight.
5)We still have 10 players off contract seasons end, front loading looksless likely after this.
6)I could just be over thinking it.

Signing Coates, Staggs etc are big money signings. I can't see any big money signings being made/formalised until DD starts imo. Levi is not a big money signing and is also only for the remainder of the year. Not something that will have ramifications for a couple of years, unlike Flegler and co. Good depth signing. Not the most creative player from memory but was solid defensively and a bit of a tackle bot.

Useful pickup. In a market with a high demand he wasn't picked up this year. Seems surprising without knowing his personal circumstances.

In Levi’s defence he has been good for Norths and has kept markers on their toes, even scoring a few tries from dummy half

Just read through his record. Interestingly he scored his first NRL try against the Broncos. His nrl win/loss ratio will fit right in with the current trend at the Broncos. Manly didn't want him in 21. Wonder what his story is that has him in Brisbane these days.

I'm probably going to get roasted here ... but I wouldn't mind having another crack at bringing Ash Taylor back to the club.

Like Milford, he won't get his million dollar contract renewed at close to that rate, however unlike Milford, he has showed some signs of getting his career back on track under Holbrook ... I'd love to see what Kevvie could do with him.

I doubt you'll get much of a roast, ATay at the right price (which is probably 500-600) is an astute signing

I don't see it having anything to do with either, none of them are hookers.

Levi had issues with the coach at Newcastle but he was a fringe player at Manly so I doubt DCE had much to do with it.

The noise has always been around arrogance and entitlement. Not willing to work hard and earn his spot.

I don’t know the guy personally though so it’s only hearsay. He isn’t exactly the best player either which doesn’t help.

My rebuttals are below... I'd say Levi's signing more likely suggests that we've given up on getting Billy more so than tea leaves around Dearden's future... FWIW I remain worried about us being able to re-sign Dearden. Also I think Chad going to north qld is a horrendous signing for them and dont really see how it is a sell to get Dearden... other than them being able to use Morgan's money to get Chad and Dearden (ie. 2 for 1)

1) Paix could have filled this role. - we want him playing 80mins in qcup developing rather than 10mins off the bench each game. Kevvie also wants Turps to be an 80min hooker
2)Dearden could also fill this role if Milf was to come back. - same as above. Broncos would want Dearden developing in lower grade
3)We can get a signing like this, but cant seem to get Deardens signature. - Levi is likely on a base deal and is desperate for an NRL gig, compared to Dearden who they would be looking to sign for 3-4yr (much more complex)

Our cap is claimed to be tight. - Levi took a qcup spot, because no one wanted him. I doubt he would suddenly start demanding a massive upgrade or long term deal. He's basically a Travis Waddel deal and is there instead of Luke

If anything it suggests that we are no longer holding out for Billy (as he wouldve been the back up hooker)

Pretty hard to get someone's signature when you haven't tabled a formal offer. It's been well documented that the Broncos are yet to table an offer to Dearden.
