OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

I disagree, if a **** doesn’t want to be here **** him off and get someone in who does
So you actually agree then? ie - if they want him released, it will cost them.
I am saying if we release Dearden, it will be because we get Drinkwater, otherwise Dearden can sit on the bench for the rest of the year.

No more Walsh situations.

If we want someone from them sure but if we don’t just tell the **** to **** off. We’re giving up a spot in the 30 out of spite if that’s the case

has anyone asked the obvious yet? Does Drinkwater "want" to come here? To this shitpile..?

Seriously, the guy is dumber than he looks if thats the case...

Unless the formula used is "only wants to play with QLD club, only one option available" card...

If you thought Deardens defence was bad...

I still think its Billy thats coming not him.....but lets see how it plays out....

4 days until D-Day

The problem with people proposing a swap with Drinkwater is that we still need to be Salary Cap compliant and I'd be frankly stunned if Drinkwater and Dearden were on anything even remotely close salary wise.

That's the issue with any trade for Dearden really, because he seems to be one of the very few Broncos players that isn't being horrendously overpaid right now.

You can see it playing out............

I like to think I'm an intelligent person, that I have a few "smarts" about me but I'm starting to wonder if there's some kind of secret agenda here .. some devilish master-plan that us dumbass fans can't see or understand .. lulling the entire NRL community into a false sense of security while a team of superhero-style players is being assembled at a secret underground location somewhere west of Thargomindah.
Stupid and fanciful ?? .. maybe .. but no more confounding than the ongoing self-destruction of a club that daily presents itself as having no sense of direction or unity.. gobsmacking!!

It will be close to the worst thing imaginable if history serves.

6. Staggs?
7. B Walters/Croft/Nikorima

Because that dumpster fire is what this club needs right now.
I like that, if we can have three guys on the field in the 7 two things might happen. 1. One of the three will do the right thing. 2. Worst case its 15 on 13 and our defence might stop someone body before they score.

Im not sure drinkwater will hang around. Valentine is playing fb now, and they have Townsend and Dearden coming in.

I dunno, he says he likes it there and wants to stay, the smart move for the Cows would be play Drinkwater at 6, Townsend at 7 and Deardon learns his trade in ISC.

If dearden was winning us games this would concern me but the blokes doing ducking nothing

Im hoping this is not the case. Dearden would have had that opportunity here.

The silence is defening from the Broncos
What can they say? Kev has been left out to dry if Dearden has agreed to the cows. The man the club brought in, with the hope of retaining and turning the tide. If the club wasnt betting on Dearden, Kev shouldnt have had to be publically gunning for his signature.

If he does end up going or is good as, there would be very little point to playing him.
We arent in premiership contention and we arent on the business of developing other club's players.
He is above parr to Milford and Kelly but he isn't that far beyond them that it's an automatic selection.
The moment this is confirmed I'd drop him or any young developing player to q cup and replace them with someone destined to be here next year.
I'm all for looking after players but he hasn't so much as won a single game for us that wasn't already won and it would be crazy to develop a player who will explicitly be using those skills against us and be used a marketing icon to chase our potential sponsors.
We've seen it with fiffita. If we can arrange a swap this year all the better but otherwise he's seen the last of red hill, assuming he goes.
In fact I'd drop him from the thirty if they can't have him and bring in a q cup player. Who knows?
