NEWS Staggs in strife again

The NRL's Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (aka Integrity Unit) is shit sifting Kotoni Stagg's sauced up antics at the Eatons Hill Hotel over Easter. They have requested CCTV footage hoping to indentify a woman who can help them stitch up Kotoni.

The story currently circulating alleges the NSWelshman was on the turps with his mates before heading to the Eatons Hill Hotel in search of some action. All fine until just before 3am when the Broncos centre mustered the courage to make his move on one of a gaggle of women. Staggs tried his signature move of extending his arm around her but this time it didn't work. The lady nightowl allegedly didn't care for Stagg's advance and asked him to keep his mitts to himself. Bouncers intervened and promptly turfed the highly eligible bachelor out on his ear. And that was the end of that. Until the NRL got wind of it.

So now Kotoni has run afoul of the code's moral guardians 3 times in 12 months. Not a good look for the player holding the entire club to ransom over his contract.

Top NRL Mullah Andrew Abdo said this of his last incident back in February:

“We have issued him with a $10,000 fine and most importantly, he has to complete an education course and he has to meet with me personally and the head of integrity, together with the club CEO, before he is permitted to play again. We want him to understand the impact of his words on people and the responsibility that players have to the community. His language is utterly unacceptable but this is about making sure he understands the impact of that and actually changes."

Education

“There are three components - the fine, the education course and making sure he sits down with us. Getting them to meet with me is not the silver bullet, but I want to explain to them the impact this has on their personal brand, on the club brand and on the game’s brand and then there are two ways they can go from there."

“This is important in relation to Kotoni which is why we want to meet with him before he returns to the field.”

Has that ever happened before? Where a player was suspended for an off-field incident and they withheld the suspension until he was set to return?

Not sure if I've seen it in the NRL, but I've seen it in the NBA.

For example, Fred VanVleet received a 1 game suspension earlier this season after leaving the bench in an altercation. His suspension didn't take place until the team could prove that he was physically fit and eligible for selection.

NRL has confirmed Staggs won't be permitted to return until Round 16. He has to meet with NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo and convince him he feels bad about being a drunken groper. He's also been set some homework in the form of "education and personal rehabilitation programs" over the next fortnight before they'll let him put his boots back on.

PLUS he's been fined $20,000, some of which will go towards his homework.

The National Rugby League (NRL) has today advised Brisbane Broncos player Kotoni Staggs that he will not be permitted to return to the NRL before Round 16 of the Telstra Premiership.
Staggs, who is now medically fit to play, must continue to complete education and personal rehabilitation programs over the next two weeks, to the satisfaction of the NRL, before being approved to return to the competition.
Staggs has also been fined $20,000, of which a portion will be used to fund his rehabilitation and education programs.
The sanction was handed down after Staggs engaged in disreputable conduct at a public venue in April this year.
Staggs has accepted the proposed sanction within the Breach Notice and has also met with the NRL.

I can't recall it ever happening in the NRL era. Multiple players get suspensions while they're injured and it means squat.

In the Dylan Walker 1 week suspension decided last week, he served his suspension while injured.
Dylan Walker (hamstring, round 14) - straight from the NRL website. He was due to return this week, and is named to play this week.

But in our case, of course they pulled a new standard where the suspension starts after they're medically cleared. Of course they probably won't use that standard again.

He should have to wear a giant P on his jersey so the whole world knows he's been permanently, positively, punished.

Might be a blessing in disguise. A couple weeks in the Qld cup to iron out the kinks. He has had a lot of time out of first grade. Training is one thing, match fitness is another thing. But there are probably some kinks that can not be ironed out of Kationi...

Well that's just about done it for me. The NRL hasn't won, I won't be following the second Brisbane team, but I won't be following any other NRL games that don't have the Broncos participating. They can stick their petty biased, Sydney-centric touch footy right up where the sun don't shine.

I don't think he can play any level while suspended. He'll just have to do some more rehab and training.

Staggs:

"It’s really important for me to work hard at being a role model for all those kids who look up to me as an NRL player. I understand that I have to set a better example and think about the consequences of my actions for myself, my family, my club and for the game of rugby league."

“I’ve made mistakes but I’m committed to making sure that my behaviour is something I can be proud of in the future.”

Donuts:

“We’re committed to educating our players to help them understand the importance of their role and their place in the wider community. Kotoni wants to grow as a person and we want to provide him with the support and the education that can help him become the best role model that he aspires to be.”

Abdo (earlier):

“Kotoni is an unbelievable athlete, he can be a superstar for many, many years or he can continually transgress and throw away his career. We want him to take the high road, so any opportunity we can take to help Kotoni, we want to do that. Ultimately, he has to be accountable and understand what he has done."

“We want him to be a superstar, but if he keeps making poor decisions, then there will be consequences for that and he would be throwing away a wonderful opportunity.”

they allowed Brent Naden (who tested positive to Cocaine after playing in a GF) to serve his ban in the off season ... the NRL is rigged
Dylan Walker assaulted a member of the public, was charged and convicted, sentenced to 18 month good behaviour. 1 week suspension, served while injured.

I'd love DD to make a statement on the website that the club is challenging the suspension. **** the NRL.

Yes, but they've tarred and feathered Israel Folau for saying us Drunks, Fornicators, Gamblers, Idolators and Bum Drillers will go to Hell if we don't repent. Kotoni's getting off lightly considering he said that bloke walked like a pillow biter.
