NEWS Ben Ikin appointed Head of Football

there's no way ikin was qualified to be ceo imo but i don't hate this appointment, i think he's a smart guy, interested to see what he can come up with

wonder if wayne already knew about it when he was bein such a spiteful old BFG lookin **** the other night

Guess this means his estranged father-in-law won't be back.

Ikin and Kent will co-host NRL 360 for the final time on Wednesday night, where the team is planning a special tribute episode.

Ben Ikin said:

“The Broncos are a great club. The NRL team isn’t doing so great at the moment, so this opportunity is both exciting and challenging."

“Broncos fans are desperate to see the NRL team playing finals and winning premierships again, and I’ll be doing everything I can to make that happen. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my ten years working at Fox Sports hosting NRL 360."

“I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some very talented people who all helped craft the show into what it’s become. I specifically want to thank my good mate Paul Kent, who gave me an education in journalism and showed me every day what fearless storytelling looks like in the flesh.”

Donuts:

“Ben brings a wealth of rugby league knowledge and is widely respected in the game. We believe he is a perfect fit for this senior role that is critical to the future success of our football club and I look forward to working with him.”

Fox Sports executive editor Luke McIlveen:

“Ben Ikin has been an integral part of the success of NRL 360 since day one. This is an exciting opportunity for Ben to return to the club that means so much to him at a time when they need him most."

“We wish him all the best."

Got ruled out last week........

What experience does he have for this role? He has been a TV presenter. Presumably has done other things as well as his TV role but what?

He wears glasses so he looks smart for an ex-league player I guess.
I cannot say for absolute certain but I can say I've had several chances to speak with him and one in particular was extended time. Of course not knowing me makes anything I say limited in value but he is very definitely a bright individual. He's clearly intelligent, articulate and gets his point across in no uncertain manner. Just the facts that he's prepared to discard a successful career in television in favour of a role in administration speaks volumes and the ringing endorsement that being considered and selected demonstrates should convince most that he's a man with which to be reckoned.

Interesting question. Might explain why he was so haughty and Walters was so dismissive when asked about the club talking to him. Looked a lot like Wayne didn't get what he wanted or was shunned.

Its an interesting decision.....I'll say that. I can't say I'm horrified...

I can't say I'm having a wank over it either.

Lets see in 12 months time.......

He did have that really slanted sideways smile going on.

I don't know if I'm just looking too much into this, but I noticed something interesting about Ikin's comments on 360 about his appointment a few minutes ago. Kunt and Rothfield were questioning him about what his role will be and mentioned Kev a few times by name. Ikin notably, did not.

"Obviously I won't know until I get my feet under the desk, but I need to sit down with the head coach and decide what my role is and how I'm going to be helping the head coach to make the club great again.

I still need to sit down with the head coach and the CEO and thrash out what needs to be done."

Ikin never once dared to let Kev's name leave his lips when answering the questions. Again, I don't know if I'm just looking for something that isn't really there, but it stood out to me considering he didn't have any issue referring to Donuts by name in comparison.

My gut tells me Kev might want to be watching his back for the rest of this season to be honest, in a big way.

In the quote you provided he referred to Donuts as “CEO”

Separate instance. He referenced getting to know Donaughy and liking what he's hearing from him at a different point in the segment.
