[Round 16, 2021] Broncos vs Sharks

Because he temporarily lost control of the ball before passing they called it a “bat on” rather than a pass - which they are allowed to rule on, unlike passes.

In other words, they pulled it out of their ass.

Bloody hell, if that's what they call a bat on..

We got very very lucky there.

11% for 1 other result to have to get up. I have been done on bets like this.

I am very happy you won dont get me wrong backing the broncos was brave and you deserve your cash.
I saw how poor Wests were recently and they were the only other game so I threw them in. Couldn't see them winning and no other 1.10s have won this year. Still, I get your point.

What a team effort! I haven't seen that in a long time. So nice to have the traditional rules returned too. I am hoping that this might be a directive from the powers that suck to try and bring back real league and if it continues, us disillusioned fans will return.

Of course it could well just be an outlier and we go back to the stupidity next round.

A coincidence we perform that well after some of the cancers are seemingly told to get out?

There is so much to like about this side moving forward.

Anyone else realise that the NRL changed another rule again today?

A few weeks back we had a penalty reviewed about 7 tackles after it happened and we got the ball. The penalty (about 70 metres down the field and an entire set prior) meant the opposition got the ball back.

Today, after a sharks player kneed Payne Haas in the head when he lay on the ground, the play did not change. We got no penalty despite the player being put on report and we had to take a drop out. So what's the rule then? Called back just when the ref feels like it?

Good call.... so many meters from the outside backs

Herbie is in the unique position of being good every week but on the edge and not in the middle. Does his job to a high competency each week, but nothing flashy and little ball with which to do much. I think most on here know what to expect from him and want him to get more touches and hope he is a mainstay at the Broncos.

I actually wrote something earlier and then heard Vossy make the comment in the final Haas defensive play - "hardly a set restart, maybe there is something in that."

A turning of the narrative, perhaps?

Watching the replay, one thing I liked seeing was at half time when the teams were going back into the sheds.

Despite conceding the try going into half time, the Broncos were jogging together back into the sheds. You can tell a lot about how a side is going to perform by their body language.

Their heads could have dropped and they could have gone back into the sheds kicking stones, but they didn't. And that showed in the second half with their start being the first team to score.

What about @BooKhaki ?

Sept last year Kennedy was the worst footballer in the NRL. Couple days ago he was demanding he be on the bench!!!

Is it possible? What changed his tune? Was BookHaki wrong? Or did Kennedy buy a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of ability during the off season?

He was often making great post contact meters the past couple of years but was making the same handling mistakes that Flegler does. He was told and obviously has worked on it. Was the only flaw in his game. Good defender too. Drives hard.

His last season was classic dud, end of career Boyd, sans a handful of games. He just played on way too long and wasn’t any good.
In my mind the captain should be held to a higher standard, not lower.
I'm guessing you fellas are talking about Glenn?

He's been out injured the last few years. He looks like he's put width on physically and is slower as a result. The year before last he was filling in at centre and defending admirably, but he's definitely slower now and should never do that again - he's too slow. However, he does is position himself correctly in defence. Sometimes that's more important than a good tackle. The young fellas can learn a lot from that. TPG and Riki are often caught out in defence on the edge, due to positioning and reading of attack. TPG might be beyond that position now (old dog stuff) but Riki is coming into it.

If Alex can get them fired up (comes form him in his performance first) I see reason to keep him in the position and as captain . Requires getting the bench right, which should never be the norm but makes sense for us now till the end of the year.

With the exception of the odd batch of games here and there, he's close to coming back from 2 years of no football. He hasn't even had much chance to captain. However I'm sure the young team respect him immensely. Most of his issues are fitness I'd say.

Really surprised that I haven’t seen Herbie mentioned on here. I thought he was fantastic taking the hard runs to get us out of trouble. It makes a huge difference to our forwards when you have outside backs willing to get stuck in.
Herbie is a fantastic on his feet. Can move 360 degrees with the ball in hand, plus he's fit, strong and fast, and he can also run a line. If he develops a passing game and better reads in defence he will be an exceptional centre. The last play of the game today where the Sharks went the length was glaring for his misread. Any other player I'd say lazy, but it looked a bad misread.

Hopefully he can develop into a Brent Tate style dummy half hitup merchant. I still think Herbie is better on the wing
That's Herbie and Tessie. Both have great potential.

RE: Tessie. He needs a big off season under the high ball.

Just employ MILF on a $100g a year contract to throw the team down his spiralling bombs at training. Over and Over and Over and Over. It's a win / win. Tessie will smash it with an off season of that, and MILF has a job. Kinda like Alf. :D

Tessie needs to make catching those spiralling bombs second nature. He's got the confidence to do it. Doesn't have to be Bradman /Jordan or even Slater dedication. However if he does work hard on it - the sky's potentially the limit.

Today was a good win to give back some confidence. Had a feeling of turning a corner and some "Broncos of old" vibe about today's win. I'm really happy for the team and club. They deserve it.

You do understand that opinions can change when performances do? Based on the dog shit Kennedy produced at Souths, and early on at Brisbane earned him 0 first grade credentials. The fact that Kennedy put in a few first grade standard performances changed my tune, and without Carrigan, Lodge, TPJ and Asiata available he should be on the bench. Kennedy still not in my top 17 if everyone is fit.

Congratulations to the team not just on the win but on their spirit as well, which is just as important.
I don't know how to react to today. A clear path to a top 8 spot is on offer given the easy run home. On the other side of the coin, we beat a Sharks team hurt by Moylan's late withdrawal and a dodgy decision, by one try. It may yet price a false dawn.

What i did like was the 1, 2 punch of oates and herbie early in the sets. They got us early ground and quick play the balls for the forwards and team to build upon.

Unfortunately oates is not getting too much ball in try scoring opportunities but he is making metres, and made a try saver after the cronulla fullback ran right up the middle after a 20 restart.
