Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Yeah am I the only one who thinks this will bite us on the ass. Look what happened with milf, I just don’t have trust in signing players on big money anymore.

Your certainly not the only one. And I agree if we haven't learned anything from Anthony Milford we never will.

I don't agree with everything that Phil Gould says but I agree with him when he suggests the threshold for a million dollar player is if they contribute to 60% - 70% winning ratio.

Payne Haas is a great talent. But we made this mistake last time with overpaying Milford because we thought the Storm would poach him. And this panic spending hurt the Broncos for years.

I would really love if we can get Taupau and Watson will be awesome signings

Random comment here but the name Hola just sparked my brain into think about David Hala. I remember having high hopes for him as a prop. Anyone know if he is still playing anywhere?
LOVED big Dave and wished he’d gotten a better shot. He’s not playing footy anymore from I’ve seen - at one point I think he tried to switch sports but now he’s now another former player living the everyday worker life

He still holds the clubs bench record yeah?

I don’t think Jake Turpin will be playing reserve grade. I don’t necessarily think he should be playing 9 but I just can’t see him not playing if he is in our squad

Unfair on Hetherington, Robati, Kennedy, and Palasia

He would actually have close to if not the worst winning percentage of any player who has played over 20 games
I think he’s won like 2 or 3 games and all of them he was on the bench I’m pretty aure

That’s true. Who do you suggest we drop? Maybe Robati starts and Riki drops to bench with Piakura out of the side? Hetherington could be our 9

If turpin could replicate the performance he put in for the sharks game, i would be content with him at 9 until a better option comes along.

He and hetherington's defence was bruising and although he didnt take many scoots from dummy half, he did show a bit more in attack and his passing game looks to have improved as he is mostly putting the ball out in front for the players to run onto it.

His defence has always been outstanding… it’s not even the fact that he lacks threat I can live with that, for the short term. His service is atrocious, ATROCIOUS! If he can fix that I think we can be content enough for him to stay on.

Yeah it’s a tough one, especially if we sign another starting prop.

I definitely don’t think Hetherington should play hooker though.

I suspect it will be
8.Flegler
10 Haas
13. Carrigan

which I don’t agree with. I think Hetherington looks great at lock and Carrigan’s better position is prop. I also think Bullemor needs to be on the bench somewhere. If we don’t sign a hooker Paix would be great as a bench hooker. A lot of tough decisions.

At this point I’d probably lean toward.

Paix cycled into the 14. Every 3 games or so and play 30-40 minutes off the bench to help manage Turpin’s fatigue.

I really like Carrigan as a player but I don’t really see how he and has fit in the same prop rotation. Both of them provide the most benefit by the huge minutes they can churn out - but it’s all 1 out hit ups, no offloads or fast ptb’s. I don’t think you need 2 of those. Haas will need to develop more ball playing and offload to prevent Carrigan from being obsolete.

I’m gonna say it, I reckon we are a hooker and some cheap hardened depth away from being a Smokey next year.

If we could land B.Smith or see an explosion in Paix, I dunno, I reckon we have a lot of ingredients already.

Yeah but if I were Paix I’d probably be seeking a release to get a better opportunity. With players like Niu and Paix we have to decide now if we’re going to put faith in them and actually use them IMO
