PRE-GAME [Round 1, 2022] - Broncos v Rabbitohs

Even though we are missing some key players tonight, the Rabbitohs side on paper really isn't that strong either. They've got an almost rookie halfback having to form new combinations, no Latrell and it's at home so hopefully we can be competitive and not completely shit the bed.

Obviously hoping for a win but would be happy with a competitive loss. Reynolds and Hetherington back next week, along with Paix and Gamble being possible inclusions as well. Bulldogs, Cowboys and Warriors in the next month so we really need to make the most of this easier draw and get at least 2-3 wins to give us some momentum.

I've got no expectations heading into the season after what we've dished out the last few years. Hoping for the best and prepared for the worst. Please show some spine this year you entitled pricks because my grey hairs have fast-tracked watching you in recent times.

I don't think you need to hope for that, I can confirm you are both in actual fact pessimistic - and, of course, not necessarily unreasonably so. If we win, you will still have been pessimistic; the result will not change your historical pessimism, but it may give you some optimism moving forward to balance out the pessimism. Or you might continue to expect the worst, regardless. We are each of us individuals, with our own thoughts and feelings, and that can not be judged correct or incorrect, true or false, zero or one.

Pessimism does seem to be the gold standard across this forum, and it can be a gloomy place to populate sometimes. Thank god we have Santa Santa to even things out.
I think I'm usually one of the more optimistic members until I get the shits with someone. That doesn't happen very often. Macca, Seibold, Boyd, Milford and to a much much lesser extent, Herbie recently. I still always tip the Broncos to win. And I still want those players to prove me wrong.

lol how was this game the final straw?
Those last two trials really got to me. I went in cocky and came away with barely any positives. Particularly Selwyn's performance. I think we all had a lot riding on him, however unfairly.

But also how we've plummeted to the level of wanting to believe Billy flipping Walters is going to bring us home in September. I think the cognitive dissonance bubble popped in that last game.

It’s was the unknown. We knew we sucked, we’ve sucked for years but until a balls kicked it’s a Schrödinger’s cat situation. We opened the box by watching the trials and confirmed that we still suck.

The cat died when Kobe and Adam tested positive. I hope they can hit the ground running when they return but we shouldn't expect it.

The reason is to add an extra hour of daylight. Not really feasible in Qld due to the hot climate. I only live 400 kms from Brissy but the differences in climates are significant. Daylight Savings is awesome here but it wouldn't work in Qld.
But you lose an hour in the morning?

Now that's it's game day let's consider the likely outcome of Brisbanes first set tonight, be it an attacking set or defensive set. Taking bets now on:

- Broncos kick the ball out on the full.
- Broncos give away first set penalty.
- Broncos give away last tackle 6 again in the first set.
- Broncos lose player to concussion in first tackle.
- Broncos drop ball off kick off.
- Broncos give away penalty for incorrect play the ball.
- Rabbits kick off hits the cross bar bouncing back into Cody walkers hands who drops it then kicks it constituing a drop kick into the in goal leading to a Souths try in the first 30 seconds.
-Rabbits hit one of our guys with a high shot which the match officals pick up 10 minutes later and the offending player is given a simple warning.

If memory serves me correctly the past two seasons we've had something happen to us the first set of the first game so betting we keep the record going.

Could turn that into a game of bingo really

I just went for a drive to see what's 400 kms from Brissy, and can confirm there's nothing there.

Albert Kelly:

“I’m excited for this, bring it on. I’m definitely confident I can step up for ‘Reyno’. I’ve had 13 or 14 years in the game, I’ve played in Australia and England and I’ve been in all sorts of positions, six, one, seven, lock and even centre. But the halves is where I’m most suited and I know what I have to do. It’s important I take control of the team and give my teammates around me the confidence to do their jobs."

“I came home to Australia last year to literally nothing. No guarantees in the NRL. At my heaviest in England, I was 106kg. But coming back to the NRL, the training intensities are so much higher. I knew if I wanted to keep my career going, I had to get fitter and I’ve done that. I’ve lost 17 kilos in total. It’s been nothing but hard work, training hard and sorting out my diet. I’m really proud of how much hard work I have put in. I believe I have earnt this opportunity and I want to hold onto a Broncos jumper for as many years as I can.”

Kevvie:

“It’s not about what other people think, it’s about what we think as a playing group and the only way to silence all the doubters is for Billy to go out and play the way we know he can play. I am extremely proud for him with my dad’s hat on, but I have my coach’s hat on for this game. I remember a famous line from Wayne Bennett, if you start listening to the punters, you will be sitting there with them in the stands. It’s a great opportunity for Billy. If he plays the football he is capable of, that will be great for us and great for the team as well.”

We’re all traumatised by the last 3 years. I still haven’t decided if I’ll get kayo this season. Normally I would have gotten it for the trials but haven’t been given much excitement for it so far.
7 games not on free to air this season:

You could always watch a complimentary stream.

Souths Right edge is going to be defensively abhorrent if Taaffe is ruled out. Johnston will go to fullback and Mansour will take that wing spot. The halves need to exploit that side because as good as Staggs is Campbell Graham is one of the best defensive centers in the comp and it would be wasteful to persist attacking that side.

Only way I can see us winning is if we win the middle, as good as our starting pack is I think the bench will let us down.
Actually, i think the game plan needs to be shift right.

South have Jaxson Paulo playing his first game at left centre. He has Staggs against him.

Thats all id do; give quality early ball to Staggs and unleash him. Good teams identify a weakness and hammer it over and over again until your opposition surrenders and makes changes.

Does anyone else think Billy Walters will shift down to the 9 during the game when Turps needs a rest and give Tyrone a go at 6/7?
