I'd rather keep Hass and look at the pack around him. We do have a good strike rate when it comes to developing forwards who can play their role well over the years though. Glenn, Parker, McGuire, Gillett and even guys like Webkce, Carroll, Carlaw, Civoniceva, Thorn and even Thaiday.
Carrigan is probably close to joining that group and Hetherington wouldn't be too far off either for mine. We could trust the system to develop another Carrigan, but it's highly unlikely to deliver another Hass.
I wouldn't say Hass isn't a matchwinner though. He won't kick a field goal or throw a cutout pass. But there's other ways to do it. Hass is younger than, and hasn't won a premiership like Taumololo had when he signed his deal.
Wasn't there a game where he made a try saving tackle late and it ended up saving it? He's also embarrassed whoever's been our fullback at least once by tracking the opposition Fullback. We also hardly ever let him drift wide and run at an edge when he is renown for post contact metres. If forwards have trouble stopping him, what hope would a tiring half have late in the game after he's had a break?
